these are one time buy products, to help regulate the flow of information going back and forth between multiple devices and to your isp/internet (connecting though the modem) (modems are 'converters' to allow internet access through one device connection; that you connect to router, to allow the router to split the internet access to multiple devices) your isp will still control the maximum upload and download speeds/bandwidth, pending on the monthly plan you have with them (still need thi$ :P) these routers just tend to have features to help focus on uninterrupted flow for gaming, thus reducing lag and delays with gaming servers note: these only help from your devices to the modem/internet/server. thus might still get lag, delays, interruptions, from misc stuff outside of your control, but least youll know its not on your end (for the most part ;) glhf

I need a gamin router because my old router can't take no more UDP abuse from online gamers that keeps lagging my router, I did all I can do with limiting UDP and TCP traffic, but my router still lags really bad and crashes and reboots. It's not meant for gamin. I need a router with memory and faster processor. All gaming routers have faster processor.

The router has absolutely NOTHING to do with speeds, pings, latency, etc. That's up to your isp

Thank you for your opinion and yes you are partially right, however, we have different opinion about the things you have mentioned and in our reckoning technological design and performance do effect these things.

If your ISP provides 10Gbps speeds but your router caps at 200Mbps your WiFi will still run at 200Mbps. The weakest link in the chain determines the strength of the entire chain.

@TheChosenRedneckZ I know this, everyone that posts these videos don't explain that. My ISP boasts 100Mbps for my area max, my router has a 1gig cap, when wired to my router via ethernet, I hit as high as 95M, over wifi, I top at 30M. What these OPs keep failing to explain, is over wifi, your router will bottleneck your speeds, whereas wired in, you'll reach much higher speeds. The thing I'm trying to say, is the router has nothing to do with internet speeds, it's job is to communicate your devices to your box. Your ISP is the one that controls speeds. These videos should be saying "how to increase communication speeds between your router and device." Not the typical "how to increase your internet speeds." You can have a 10Gig router, but if your ISP only offers 50M down, you're only going to get 50M down, MAX. Stop confusing the next gen of internet users and speak plainly.

@dirtybird1933 while yes you are right that it can be somewhat confusing for people who know nothing about routers to come in here and see them say it reduces ping and increases speed but they are using this as a comparison to other routers. For example, if you have 1Gbps down from your ISP but a router that does 100Mbps down and then you get one of these with 10Gbps+, you will be technically increasing your internet speed if you only operate on wifi. They are comparing some of the best routers out there and how they use technology to influence the distribution of the internet throughout the house and how much it can distribute at once. They are not trying to tell anyone that if you have slow internet, then these router will fix that. Only stating that these routers are best in class with features that can benefit the speed of the internet. This wasn't an informative video about how to get faster internet. It was a product comparison video on what products are the best based on the specs from the manufacturers and the experts that they talked to. If someone didn't know most of the stuff we've brought up in this thread they would most likely go out and buy any generic router they could find because they probably don't know that even with a really fast ISP the router will slow it down. In my opinion, they hit the mark with this video for the target audience that they were trying to reach. Most people are not going to buy one of these routers that retail $300-$500 without doing the research to accompany the understanding of how they work before buying anyway. I understand your point, but I also think you may be reading a little too deeply into the meaning of everything that was said in the video.

@TheChosenRedneckZ I agree with what you're saying, it has reached its target audience for the most part. And yet, this video was brought to me by my son, of whom said we needed to get a better router because it'll make the internet faster. So on that front, this video has also reached the next gen internet user. Had to sit and explain to him that the router only handles speeds between it and the device. Also had to prove to him what I meant. Yes, I was forced to read into it, mostly due to teaching, bust also from my ADD and literal way of thinking. Been told I'm on that spectrum, too late in life to get tested now. Either way, I still stand by what I said about explanation on speed, ping, latency, etc. For the techie gen like myself, I understand these, my dad and my son, however, ask me about these videos and I have to break it down for them
