I don't understand what the obsession is with the Snatch. It is fine if you're training for Olympic weightlifting but outside of that there are better and safer things you can do to develop strength and explosiveness, especially if you're a novice to intermediate lifter. It seems people are trying to learn how to snatch before they even know how to properly squat.

I agree a lot of people skip the basics before trying to snatch. that being said the snatch is one of my favorite lifts to do. Something about it just feels great lol.

Tak El-Uc Yeah, Olympic weightlfiters do snatches of course and some athletes will do them or variations of them to develop speed and explosiveness in the hips. They are a phosphagen system based exercise though. They,shluld not be used for conditioning.

Agreed. If you can't do the basic barbell movements (squat, deadlift, bench, and overhead press) well, you have no business doing things like snatches, clean and jerks, and power cleans. The problem with most crossfitters is that they're always rushing things.

In a study published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, researchers surveyed 132 CrossFitathletes. They found that 97 (73.5%) sustained an injury that prevented them from working, training or competing. Of these injuries, nine required surgery. GG Crossfit.

They are doing power-lifting moves that take Power-lifters years to master, crossfit are doing them in a couple of months. Go figure there are getting injured. My sister's former trainer just started training crossfit and a couple of weeks in got injured and is just getting back 3 months later.

I read the article, what you are forgetting to mention is that the same article was mentioned in a comparative study that showed how the rate of injuries was the same or lower than many other sports including Olympic weightlifting and rugby. Crossfit is a nice idea, but they do things WAAAAY to fast. They try to time themselves and make personal records, while adding cardio/plyo movements into the mix. This can only lead to injury in the end. This is not to mention the amount of repetitions cross-fitters do, which typically leads to rabdo.

The people who jump up onto the boxes/exercise platforms.... Did they never play as a kid? I mean, doing that kind of jump onto something unstable is most likely to result in a bad fall and most of us learn that by the time we're about... 9 years old?!! Yeah I don't get that.

Ha, I can find 100's of idiotic morons in the gym using the leg extension as a Friday night hump-fest...that doesn't mean going to the gym hitting extensions or cable crossovers or lat raises is stupid or moronic? In the end there is movement, and ALL movement is and should have its place in your fitness. My soap box lol

A lot of this is actually Olympic moves. And just doing the body weight exercises you mentioned won't build much muscle and you will plateau very quickly

Have a dude that's 73 in my box and he's a bad ass...THATS what I'm after. And we do strict pull-ups and we swim and we do military presses...but we add a little extra in like box jumps and muscle ups etc, so we (a) don't get bored (b) it's fun (c) I can go on and on bro ;)

Bryan Baker haha you're right, in just keeping it real. My Dad was 74 before he passed and he was able to climb a tree that was two stories high, with no ladder, and held a chain saw at the same time, tied to a rope. I couldn't do that if I wanted to. I know folks who are in the 100s age and they never worked out to the extreme that we do, they just had a good diet.

sida947 spoken like a true moron. CrossFit isn't for everyone. It should be for advanced lifters with experience in Olympic lifting. There are so many of these "CrossFit fail" videos because there are too many shitty coaches teaching poor fundamentals in these flavour of the month "boxes". Prime example is near the end of this video, the girl doing a kipping pullup with assistance 👎👎👎. If you can't do a strict pullup, you shouldn't be doing kipping pullups. That's a fast track to a future shoulder injury.

Crossfit expert here. The bar has to land on your torso, neck, knees, or legs in order to complete the rep. If you dont feel something break or come out place you, your form was off. Proceed to try it again with more weight.

Olympic weightlifting is way too technical to be part of crossfit... And every "crossfit fails compilation" video proves it, since most of the clips show faulty Olympic lifts. And people start thinking weightlifting = crossfit. Someone has to stop it ;__;

I love Crossfit and will do it for years to come. I wanted something more than a normal gym routine and running and found Crossfit. I'm 11 months in and got stronger and fitter than before. Gain alot of muscle and love it. I know you can injure yourself if your technique is not on spot so I am aware of it. Seeing a weightlifting coach now to tweek my technique and already smashing PB's... so everyone bashing Crossfit.. well you know it is not for everyone. Do whatever you want to do to stay healthy and active. I also have seen how people injure themselves in normal gyms...so make sure whatever you do, you know how to do it properly and also know how to 'fail'.

Nobody bothers with grip strength on olympic lifts because it's very unlikely you'll ever have a grip strong enough to stay glued to a heavy load during an explosive pull. Every single olympic lifter uses hook grip in competition (and often straps in training) for that reason. And no, hook grip doesn't develop grip strength.

I like how they're classifying this all as crossfit yet most of them are actually Olympic lifting and the girl who broke the window is probably the best female lifter In the us and has potential to go to the Olympics in 2020

I am a novice to weightlifting, but through working with my PT I understand that building strength and endurance is through gradual, consistent progression. I feel people who do CrossFit are trying to find a 'shortcut' to greater strength and endurance and perhaps they think these Olympic lifts will achieve this (which they won't.)

At 0:26, that's not a cross fitter, her name is Mattie I follow her on Instagram and she's an Olympic weightlifter for the United States. Her gram is mattiecakes. This video just made me quit watching when I saw that because the creator cat distinguish a crossfitter from a real Olympic lifter actually doing a correct movement and just failed it.

Aggressive Pizza no, its an olympic weightlifting exercise (a sport since 1896) that crossfit cannibalized. its only associated with crossfit bc olympic lifting isnt as popular in the us (and there are more idiots who do crossfit). in the rest of the world it's universally recognized as an olympic lift. and she safely bailed it btw, except for throwing it too far forward. shouldn't have had a window there

the title is just seeking for attention basically and aims for a stupid ignorant audience! I mean at least 3/4 of the clips aint from crossfit but from regular and weightlifting gyms aswell and also most of the clips are not fails but in the process of try and error so I don't see anything wrong with that

Clearly you must have worked it out by yourself. But seeing the comments of other people and putting them as a general percentage I guess about half the people didn't worked it out themselves, therefore I felt the need to clarify that.

ben butthurt meathead alert.. 1) I have no idea how your reply is relevant in what I said about the video instead is just you mumbling about how much you hate crossfit, 2) I have no idea how you figured which athlete takes more shit from either crossfit, bodybuilding or every other sport because it is well known that every elit takes a lot of shit to compete in a highly intense sport professionally and 3) I never said that I am a crossfiter you just assumed that because you are a meathead.. When I read the title I was thinking "let's watch people screw up the olympic lifts for a few minutes." I totally got what I wanted. I would also disagree that 3/4 of those clips aren't from crossfit. At least half of them have a bunch of kettlebells in the background, rogue racks across the whole wall, or you can see people doing a crossfit style workout in the background. You might not want to call it crossfit, but they're doing those lifts in a crossfit box. I'll agree that a lot of this is trial and error, but c'mon, if you're gonna post yourself dropping the bar on your head it's definitely going to be in a gym fail video in the near future.
