Shame that Benchmade is always over priced for absolutely no reason, I dig the old school wooden handles! Are there any other folders or fix blades under 4 inches you can recommend with wood handles? Thanks! 😎

The Bark River Drop Point kills every other knife on the table. Not only is it the most expensive on the table, but it is the best buy for your money because two generations of inheritors will praise your name for it.

i have been looking for a hunting knife to add to my collection, but then i just thought about the knife that i have and made with my grandfather when i was younger, still fits me today! cant tell you what kinda steel it is, but the wood is decent and made with love so, it's one of the best knives i have. he did give me one of his old case knives that he bought in the 50-60s, leather is still good to this day, but i do think that the blade is made out of aluminum, feels like it is!

I use a Dozier Yukon skinner to get things started and cut the meat off the bone but I use an outdoor edge swing blade with a guthook blad and a skinning blade. the guthook blade is a game changer. I keep all of these razor sharp and don't use them on anything else. For finer skiing chores, I will occassionally use my Knives of Alaska caping knife which is perfect for the job. I have a short thick bladed custom knife that I use to break down joints with as well. A small meat saw by Outdoor edge rounds it out. Heavy game shears are good for ducks and upland birds along with the caping knife. Although you can do it all with one knife I have found it works much better and faster to use specific tools for different jobs.

For hunting cold steel Pendleton classic san mai, Lovelace hunter, or bark river guardless hunter just came out. For bushcraft skookum bushtool, spyderco bushcraft, or bcnw 01. EDC benchmade osbourne 940, benchmade bugout custom scales, or R2D2 "rat 2 in d2".

When i was a kid, I wanted a pocket knife. However, I never had one, since I had no use for it. Then a few years ago I found at a festival with my girlfriend a Swiss Army knife. It was on the ground, so I picked it up. Someone might have dropped it and didn't know it. Anyway, when I got home, I showed it to my girlfriend. I explained what I knew about the knife. Did you know it wasn't the first knife to have tools in the handle? You can look up the history. I used it for everything, mainly to open boxes. After about two years, I lost it. My girlfriend likes to order things from catalogs. She sends gifts on holidays to family, friends , etc. But she also orders things for herself as well. She likes to celebrate every holiday there is. Even on Valentines day she don't just give/send cards, she also buys gifts. Well the gift she got me was a Damascus blade hunting knife from the Stauer catalog. It's called the August hunting knife. You can look it up. So I explained it's made with different layers of metal.. Some knives and swords have as many as 300 layers. But I don't think this does. There's two, three, or four different alloys combined. The blade is very strong, and it has a very sharp edge that stays sharp for a long time. But it can also rust! So you need to take care of it. You can't just cut a lemon and leave the knife alone. You need to wash the blade, then completely dry it. I didn't know this at first, I looked it up. My birthday is a few weeks after Valentines, so I guess that's why she got it for me. I like it, I like it a lot, but I really have no use for it. Also it says on the box it contains led: wash hands after use. So i might send it back. I don't think the blade has led, and the handle is rapped in leather, so i think the pommel (the piece on the end) is made somewhat with led......who knows. So I 'm thinking about sending it back. I am going to buy myself a small fixed blade hunting knife, but in stainless steel. I want a good one. Not those knives that sell for $20 or $30 dollars. Do I want a clip point or a drop point? I certainly don't want any knife that looks military. You know, commando style. Do i need one? Well.......I do go camping from time to time.

I don't know why they would paint the handle in Camo colours ,, wouldn't that make it that much harder to find if it fell out of your pocket, I suggest a bright colour a yellow or a bright red which would make it almost impossible to loose,but what would I know I'm just a woman!
@wagstag89
@wagstag89 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I prefer any woods/hunting knife to have a bright handle, or really anything other than camo. Whether you're skinning or bushcrafting everyone sets their knife on the ground once in a while and a camo handle is just asking to get lost.

Clip points are not so great for gutting or skinning,that upswept point pokes into everything. Go with a drop point design even cheap Herbert are great. I have used a $20 Ferber for 30 years on bear and deer,sharpens easy just not pretty. I only replace it with a German made Puma hunters pal because of the traditional look of the stag horn Handel. Harder to sharpen but holds an edge forever! Why no Puma in this review?

Yup. It's old school for sure. You can wash it in some soapy warm water with a touch of bleach -- opening and closing it under water. Just make sure you dry it really well afterwards and re-oil it with something food safe like mineral oil. Should be good to go :)

That’s a testament to that knife. I want one now. But I still worry about gunk with my use. I cut food like apples and don’t always have a place to clean the knife right away. If I can rinse the entire knife and not worry about rusting issues or needing to do anything myself, I want to get one for myself and then hand it down to my son.

Jon Duncan. Get your self one. I bought my self one. Have my dads, his dads and his dads dads. Bought my daughter one for her 10th birthday and my son will get one this year for his tenth Bday. They hold up better than any knifes I’ve owned. Never get lose easy to clean just rinse never have oiled any of the knifes even grate grandpas and they are work fine.
