I've said it before, the skull rating on these Rewind series has got to go. Every album is 5/5, or we wouldn't be discussing them 30+ years later. I voted for RiP as it's unquestionably one of the greatest albums ever, let alone 1990. If it had come out a different year I would have picked Left Hand Path for the #1 spot. Even though JP is my favorite band all time, I agree with Popoff that the lyrics on Painkiller are a little cheesy. Still a 5/5 album though, just for the leads and drums alone.

For me, this is very close to a comprehensive summary of the best metal from this year. I was 15 and grew up in this era and although I have to do my homework on a couple of these albums, I'm impressed and excited these albums have been voted up by the people. I cracked open the shrink wrap on Rust In Peace and Painkiller the week they released and spent many hours after listening on a Sony Discman and Sony MDRV6 headphones. CFH changed everything, I lost my mind hearing it for the first time on cassette in a friends car. I slept with the lights on in my room for a week after listening to Seasons, I could go on and on but AIC, Death, Suicidal, King's X...man! what a killer year for metal. It's validating to see these masterpieces celebrated 30+ years later and showing no sign of stopping! Thank you Martin for your continued passion and contribution and BangerTV as a vehicle to the masses for Metal!!

I thought this one was lacking something at the time. Not their strongest set of songs. Of course, I'm probably the only person in the world who thought Force of Habit was pretty good (but definitely NOT one of their classic albums)

Rust in Peace deserves the top spot for sure. I liked Peace Sells' raw thrashiness a bit more but Rust is for sure is a prog thrash uberpeice... Agree with Martin about Suicidal as well.. always overlooked and shit upon band but some of their guitar work and especially on How will I Laugh is exemplary.. IMO..

1990 was when I finally moved into CD's. The 5 albums I probably still listen to the most from that year: Obituary - Cause of Death Trouble - self-titled Forbidden - Twist Into Form Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss Primus - Frizzle Fry

Awesome reviews from Popov - I agreed with every single rating - up to Megadeath ( Max: 3/5). As I missed to vote - here’s my top 10 (as if anyone cares): 1. Slayer - Skeleton of Society 2. Danzig - II, Lucifuge 3. Entombed - Left Hand Path 4. Pantera - Cowboys from Hell 5. Celtic Frost - Vanity/Nemesis 6. Death - Spiritual Healing 7. Alice In Chains - Facelift 8. Iron Maiden - No Prayer for the Dying 9. Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise 10. Kreator - Coma of Souls Megadeath had a decent release, just like Dio, Judas, Bathory & ACDC +++ many others. (I can't really rate Obituary as I heard them years later...)

It's a good album compared to most of metal but fairly average when compared with other Maiden albums, hence its lack of popularity with Maidenites. I happen to think it's better than most people give it credit for, but that's a fairly minority opinion.

You've got to give credit to Martin, he always gives his honest opinion and ratings, despite knowing people will diagree - 3 out of 5 for Painkiller - Wow! I will let him off though for mentioning Trouble and Danzig 2, both great albums. I also think Iron Maiden's No Prayer for the Dying is under rated, not as good compared to their earlier 80's stuff, but still better than anything released since.

Grunge didn't explode until 1991. However the year 1990 was a time when Underground/ Alternative Rock was starting to make some noise courtesy of releases by Janes Addiction, The Pixies, Sonic Youth & Faith No More who appeared on SNL.

Depends on definition, the bands themselves never called their style Grunge, this was coined by the Sub Pop label I believe, and referred to the Seattle scene of the late 80s, very much an underground scene, which had its roots in the early Green River and Melvins records. That scene was basically over by the time Pearl Jam and Nirvana released their 1991 albums. A lot of new bands after '91 kinda tried to 'sound like Nirvana' but had no connection to that underground scene

May I suggest a change of system? Instead of just selecting one, just have us choose our top 3 and in each comment we rank the 3 choice: 3rd place gets point, 2nd place gets 2 and 1st gets 3 points. I know it will take more time, but let's be honest: It sucks to leave out possible picks that won't even get an honorable mention + there's not an infinite number of years we can go back & revisit, so...
