I have a pair of GIVI TRK46 as sidecases for my Yamaha XT1200, and already droped the bike on them at least 3 times - and i'm actually more scared to break the support rather than the cases. Those things are bomb-proof! I also had (actually still have) a GIVI topcase (although not a TRK series) that survived 2 crashes on a GSX-R6 - the last one sent the bike to scrap

You mentioned an average grocery run. On the bike has always been my favorite way to make my store runs. My wife's as well. Always love how people will actually ask if what you are loading up will fit, and being able to put the bags over one shoulder, pack over the other, and just walk in with the full haul, hands free. Gonna miss that, until I get my prosthetic, and can ride again, but my wife can still do it with her Vulcan, and either set of bags. ( Infection in the right leg, ended up above knee, 2 weeks ago. Yes, already working out getting a bike that's auto, and swapping the brake to the left side. And either way, by the end of the season my stump is going over the p oad, left foot on the peg ir board, and I will be behind her, a brother, or a sister, and back in the wind. Because riding is life, after 40 years, and riding bitch beats sitting in a wheelchair crying about it.) Mad respect Ryan.

@@benfennell6842 Not yet. Has to replace the car first, as it's a stick. 17 Hyundai Elantra, which is now the wife's. Picked up an 08 Silverado extended cab, so I can open the rear door, and put my chair and keep a walker.in the back, out of the elements. Have.a line of a Honda NC700SA,.auto,.that the guy is looking to go bigger, and made a trade offer involving my 05 VTX.1800. He and dad are taking both out tomorrow after work, so we'll see what he thinks. Go in for my first consult and fitting in 2 weeks, figure I'll be riding again next spring. At least on two wheels,.as I did test a hand brake converted.Can Am Spyder a week ago, after my wife and I installed the conversion kit for a friend's wife, who lost her right leg below the knee over the winter. And it felt fucking awesome just getting back in the wind, not on the back. Not to mention the looks riding it, from people on the sidewalk. Not yet, but working on it. May pick up a Spyder BRP for days I don't feel like using the leg. Also, thank you for checking up.

@@benfennell6842 And yes, already been on the back, road brother brought his Elexrraglide by, and I had the wife grab the half lid, climbed on, and got out on a run with them. Rode back behind her on the Vulcan.

@@benfennell6842 Well,.I started riding at age 5 on a YZ50, and have been riding ever since. Mom and dad both rode. Yes, loss.of a limb is permanent, but the wheelchair isn't. It's just not in me to quit. If it was, inwould have given up on it 16 years ago after going blind in my right eye, and losing half of my left foot. Still ran a standard toe shifter after that as well. I see this as what it is, a permanent situation, but only a temporary setback. The only thing that stoos a person is that person.

Quite a bit late, but, around 0:33 you pull the locking mechanism right off the Saddlemen bag. Not a great indicator of their quality!

The canvas bags have a broader set of advantages over the hard shell luggage. Won't cause too much damage to pedestrians and other vehicles on the road if you accidentally brush against them. When not in use, you can nicely fold them and keep them on a shelf/drawer without taking too much space. Some canvas bags are multirole. They could be pulled apart to perform other functions too.

Love the channel. I bought the Cortech Super 2.0 saddlebags for my sportbike on my trip from Utah to Alaska. The bags would be great if it never rained. But it rained a lot on that trip. The rain covers did the opposite of what you want. They actually collected water in the bottom and held water in my bags. Luckily I had put everything inside my bags in ziplocs so nothing was ruined. By the end of the trip, which was 21 days, the rain covers flapped themselves to death. Both rain covers flapped holes into themselves. Cortech was nice and replaced my rain covers at no cost so great customer care. I would just warn people to either only use these bags in dry conditions or to always put everything that needs to stay dry into waterproof bags inside your bags. And if you decide to use the rain covers, I would recommend poking a drain hole in the bottom so that all of the water that collects in there can drain out instead of soaking through your bags.

freeflybigsky I really dont get why the SW-motech blaze isnt here. Its basically the exact same design but with expandable zips, inner dryba and mounting brackets that easily comes off the bike after use. The only thing i lile more about Cortech is the heat resistant bottom.

I have a pair of Cortech Super 1.0's that I bought used on the cheap, along with their matching top bag, and have had the exact same experience with their raincovers. They don't block more than a half-hour of rain and tend to collect rain in the bottom rather than letting it fall off, which is weird because they fit quite a bit tighter than the 2.0 rain covers in this video (though maybe it's because I usually use the saddlebags in their expanded position). I've taken to putting everything I want to stay dry inside them in a single big garbage bag, which works well enough. The saddlebags themselves don't expand or sag much when they get wet. I'm considering something like painting the rain covers with a DIY silicone wash to make them properly waterproof, but for now the garbage bags work.

@@treytucker5619 3 years later update: SW-motech blaze still rocking like brand new, only one complaint. Why the hell did they not put another opening from the side. Would have been so much more covenient to pack. Sure from the top you can tetris it really thoroughly, but i dont see why you couldnt have both, the existing zipper ontop and a secondary next to the expansion ones which opens the side cover. Would make packing a breeze

Got the Cortech Super 2.0, works great, with exception of the top zipper (just be careful when open/closing. Not very rugged/idiot-proof). Buddy of mine got the same style from Nelson-Rigg (almost a clone) and it's a better closure/zipper with same fit/function. Plus Nelson-Rigg warranty is insane. I got the Nelson-Rigg "weekender" soft tailbag to make a touring-system, and just logged 2,500 miles on every twisty road possible. ZERO issues. And the tailbag served as a lumbar rest!

Just got a set of SW Motech Blaze saddlebags for my FZ-09 and they are amazing! Not cheap, but they are built extremely well and they secure to your bike extremely well, and one of the best things is that the support bar is removable so you don't see anything if you are riding without the bags. Just like everything else for your bike, don't go cheap, get quality accessories and you'll be very happy. Also, waterproof bags should go INSIDE the bag, not around the outside, so they are not whipped around by the wind. The bags that don't come with a support bar they tend to flop around and/or you have so many straps to secure that it's just silly. Do your research and get a bag that's easy on/easy off for your sport bike/sport cruiser and you'll enjoy them much more.

I have the Givi TRK33 side cases and while they are really nice, everything you said about their downsides is true! They make it difficult to actually pack them full. (They would hold 33 liters of water, but they probably only hold 27 liters of real life gear.) They were expensive (All in with all mounting and the 56ltr top case I'm in over $1000 US). Finally they can break the mounting hardware in a fall. I low sided on some sand and the mounting bracket was torn out of the footpeg. Easily repaired with zip ties, but still. I originally bought them for commuting, but I wish I had picked up the Nelson-Rigg dry bags instead for long trips and some E21s for around town.

For helmet storage check out the Shad hard cases. Yes they are expensive but one of the few cases you can store a full face/modular helmet in. Very well made cases.

As always, great videos. I bought a 2019 KYMCO Spade 150i in May and love it so far, it's my first bike. I live in Boston and only do commute riding. I upgraded from the Honda Ruckus. I have been trying to find the perfect bag and it's been tough. I don't really like the look of a bag but I do miss the under-seat storage of my Honda Ruckus. The storage space was perfect for the Kryptonite Forgetaboutit Chaine that I need in Boston (the Ruckus has been stolen (and recovered) twice. I like the look of a soft bag like the Cortech but you made a good argument for the Givi E21 Monokey Cruiser. Not sure what I should do 🤔. But great video, appreciate the education.

Great review. I ride 90% of my time on road and a lot of commuting as well. I swear by Givi hardcases in any form. The worst alu panniers I've had were Touratechs on my BMW GS Adventure - terrible piece of cr... Leaking like hell, locking mechanism all skewered. Only good thing was mounting brackets. Givis bags are imo top notch. I've had Givi keyless side loading cases, Givi Trekker outback (toploaders) and now givi Trekker Dolomiti. I've loved them all but toploading cases are my jam from now on. All good when not hitting the gravel trails.

I have the cortech bags, and in the wet, the rain shell just gets full of water from the rear wheel. Ditch the rain cover, and stow your gear in lawn and leaf bags inside. 👍

I agree the Cortech bags are some of the best, and I had them on my Triumph Sprint RS 955i. When I sold it I bought an economical Yamaha R3 and the old bags were too large, in fact all their bags are too large. It seems only Nelson Rigg has smaller sport saddlebags to fit. But I still use my Cortech tank and tail bags.

I was looking at dry bags recently, although I didn't know that there's bike-specific ones. But the regular adventure dry bags come in a huge variety of quality, colors, and sizes.... Plus they're super durable. Which made me think that they'd be a great option for luggage. Would you buy the one made specifically for bikes, or would you buy one of the regular adventure bags instead? The higher quality regular bags are still less than half the price of the moto specific ones, and some do have a lot of D-rings for attachment. ~THC

For sportbikes, I'm using Oxford and lomo, lomo are 100% waterproof because of the material and design, but Oxford haven't let me down in the rain with their waterproof overcovers.

I live in a city and drive a touring bike. I assure you that soft luggage is not the way to go! Lockable hard luggage is the only solution unless you want to remove the luggage every time.

I have owned a variety of cycles, some with bags, some not. Picking the bag is the least of my worries- finding the 'rack' and mounting system takes all the time and all the money. Core-tech is designed basically to throw over and strap down. (and they don't fit much and don't go fast) Everything else needs a rack system.

Hi Alex! Yep, a Givi pannier rack should do the job. As long as there's something behind each saddlebag, to keep them from sagging inward toward the rear wheel, you should be good! ~RyanF9

hey man, awesome channel super informative. ever try the Tourmaster Cruiser 3 or the Firstgear Onyx saddlebags? i ride a KLR 650, saving up the money to get the Tusk panniers but in the mean time i need something under $200. The Tourmaster and Fristgear options both have more room than the Coretech 2.0, but i can't find any reviews online other than some guy behind a counter holding it in his hand. wha are your thoughts? merry christmas!

giant loop siskiyous on my KLR...love them, and wouldn't trade them at all. two of my buddies have busted their tusk panniers...one trying to squeeze through some tight boulders, and the other dropped his......fixed the pannier and the lid flew off on the highway..... for me soft bags all the way

The Givi E21 cases were great. Unfortunately I dropped my bike on them and lo and behold they cracked. Since then, Givi redesigned the case as the new Givi E22, which is a poorer design. I still bought the newer cases but wished I went with the old E21 cases off ebay.

for the Cortech Saddlebag.... the spec says the length is 42.9 cm.... my tent is 51 cm long when packed... is there a way to fit the tent into this saddlebag? or the only option is to strap the tent on top of the bag?

At 7:54, I think the 4 keys are quite useful in cases where you use the same cases on multiple bikes. They are quick release, so just install a mounting bracket on each bike. That way, you can keep a case key on each bike's keychain.

Hey Ryan. I emailed Fortnine and let them know you brought in a customer. I asked them a basic question on the Kriega system, and they (erin?) couldn't be bothered to answer my question and told me to go look it up online. They probably lost my sale on a full Kriega tailbag system. What gives? You provide great info but they won't? Seriously... I just wanted to know if the Kriega system comes with the straps to connect the bags or if I had to buy anything additional. Ah well.

i did the same thing asking about their cardo duo pack, just asking some info on their "ask questions" section. the question was accepted but never answered so i just ended up buying the duo pack off of Chromeburner in the Neatherlands. awesome shipping took 5 days, and everything was awesome and 80 plus dollars cheaper, with only downside is the charger was a neatherlands socket rather than a western socket, which chargers are a dime a dozen so no biggie. you hit nail on the head fortnine youtube is awesome but the customer service isn't represented so well...

Late response, but it will for sure! The way it mounts on makes it basically universal for any bike with a lower exhaust.

The first saddlebag looks like it has a broken thumb screw 0:32 ... Not that I ride a bike I could put those on, but if it breaks in a demo, I do not want to see it in real life.

Good catch, it looks like the left thumbscrew mount pulled out from the case when he lifted the flap. Poor quality panniers. made in China? $$ wasted
