Thanks to Chameleon Antennas for sending me this unit for review. I will always give honest feedback. I took this antenna out on the video for a POTA(Parks on the air) activation to give it a good field test for the video.
This antenna is great for those of you who want to use high power on the go, but still want to keep your backpack weight low. It's also a great antenna for those who run without a tuner and need a resonant antenna. It may not be the first choice for the QRP operators out there though who never intend on going over 20 Watts.
You can purchase the antenna used in the video here:

Good review. To me, this is a military antenna adopted to civilian use. I have the 40-10 version and it operates flawlessly but it's heavy and bulky. When I was in the Army, (LRSU), we carried an antenna called a Gra-50 which was a dipole that was 10 times heavier than this but luckily my RTO carried the radio and I carried the antenna. I would have been absolutely giddy to have an antenna like this but that was decades ago. I'm looking at eventually getting this version too( yeah I could add more wire to this one but I like redundancy). Once again, thank you for these reviews and I wish you the Happiest of New Year's. Cheers 🎉💯🙏🏾👍🏾✔️😎

Even today, we still carry around big dipole kits. I'd love to have an end fed on the military side, but they really like their dipoles.

Have you tried the HARRIS 1944? That's a doosy of an antenna, but great once up

@@NovemberOneOscarGrouch no I haven't. I was in a Long range reconnaissance unit so we carried everything in our rucksacks. Well over 70 lbs per man or more.

Great review. It looks like a good and rugged antenna. You're right--it's not for everyone though. I'm glad you mentioned ALE at the end. That's something I'd like to ry sometime and it'd definitely be a good fit for it.

Love my CHA LEFS 80-10, super rugged and well tuned across many frequencies. Makes it easy to switch frequencies and not have to worry about tuning, adding wire, etc

I have been using this antenna for about a year and have no complaints. I use their RFI choke which has a 90 degree mount and this makes the antenna have less than 2:1 SWR on all bands other than 17 meters. Overall, I like it a lot.

I'm going to abuse it on ALE next. I think these high power end feds are a great antenna for that market that hadn't crossed my mind until making the video. A code plug on all of its resonant bands means you get the benefit of a broadband dipole without the need for terminating resistors.

I love my Chameleon products, but I hate the price tags. The MPAS 2.0 is a great kit, and you can add other kit bits to it to have a delta loop option or their other antenna options. I agree with you on the 90* adapter. I also put one on the Wolf River Coil base. I'd be curious to know how RG-316 (50') performs.

I'm a big fan of the RG-316. I will probably take that out with this antenna going forward over the RG58 (if backpacking)

@ModernHam what length do you have? BNC or PL-259? Ferrite chokes? I have a 15 foot 316 with ferrite chokes and BNCs, but think I may want a 50 footer with PL connectors. Or at least a PL on the radio side and BNC at the antenna.

Another highly overpriced Chameleon product. As always, quality is good, but for 1/3rd the price, you can build your own with quality materials. Building your own, you can also use the most efficient core and get better performance. You can also find many EFHW's that will handle 100 watts that are far less expensive and lighter weight. Who drags a 500 watt amplifier into the field ? One of the biggest rewards in Ham Radio is building your own antenna. With money getting tighter, why would you not build your own or at least buy an antenna that matches the output of your QRO transceiver ? This is more antenna than 99.9% of people will ever need in the field. Save your money and your back folks. Once again, Chameleon builds a antenna that fits the needs of a small group of people and wants you to think you need it for normal, everyday use. You don't. There is no magic in making a EFHF.

You’re just a sad ham! You’re vomiting the same comment on all Chameleon Antenna KZfaq videos! You’re a detestable person and with all those comments now, everyone know you’re a loser because the only way for you to raise up is by putting everyone else around below…Well hopefully you got vaccinated and boosted!

Valid points about the cost and DIY options. Building your own antenna can be a fulfilling endeavor, definitely, both economically and in terms of customization. I agree that Chameleon products might not suit everyone's budget or needs. It's evident that they cater to a specific niche, but the insights shared can be valuable for those considering such products. Still, I found ModernHam's video informative, shedding light on the features. If it wasn't for videos like this, however, I wouldn't have the opportunity to look at some pretty nifty tech like this. Anyways, diversity in choices is what makes the ham radio community interesting. Just wish I could afford it.

Unfortunately I don't have the space, or the equipment to build my own. As much as I'd like to do projects like this, for some of us it's just out of reach. Next year, when I buy a house it will be different. As of now though, this was a product I would otherwise not been able to obtain due to a lack of heat gun, soldiering station, drills, space for working and components, and proper antenna analyzers
