@@itsMaiku I recommend getting ahead on the reading and quizzes. The assignments that took the longest are the lesson plans, especially the full lesson plan and the student needs analysis.

So I have a US Teaching license MEd with state cert in Spanish and ESL. 30 clock hour and practicum for the ESL add on. ITA has an academy in Guadalajara and I want to teach English in Mexico as a native speaker of English. I think maybe I should go to the ITA Guadalajara campus? 6 week intensive in person program...What are your thoughts? Thank you for this information and the hours you spent!

If you are a certified US teacher then you won’t need an additional TEFL to teach in Mexico. You can either enter as a tourist and apply for TEFL jobs in person or apply to teach in international schools through an agency.

Are you able to work on your student visa? If so, I recommend CELTA.

I'm thinking about signing up for this course. Right now I have a very boom-bust work schedule. Some days I have absolutely no free time, and others I have lots of time to study and do projects. I'm in CST if that helps. You mentioned weekly assignments, so my question is: are there daily assignments that must be completed day-of? If that's the case, I'd be hesitant. I'd hate to fail the course because I'm booked 8am - 11pm a certain Friday. But if they're only weekly assignments, I think I can do that. BTW I agree with you that Moodle drools. I remember that blight from college. But otherwise I like the look of this course. Thank you for your feedback from earlier.

Hi! You have a whole week to complete the assignments, so you are able to decide which days you want to work on them. I tried do the readings ahead of time as much as possible. The only thing you have to be careful with in terms of deadlines are the forum posts. There are two specific deadlines, but because you are responding to other people, you need to wait for them to post first, which can be tricky, but the responses are short at least. You should be fine with your boom-bust schedule, but I do recommend reaching out to your teacher and asking which weeks the assignments are more time-intensive so you can plan for that. Umm Jamie, I need your advice, So because of some conditions, I couldn't finish college and I have the passion to teach English but I can't go anywhere without a degree or certificate And I'm looking for something can can save my future Do you think the ITA tefl would do that? Not necessarily in the beginning but 3 or 4 years further.

A TEFL certificate won’t change where you can and can’t teach because a degree is a visa requirement. If are are interested in teaching in places like Cambodia and Latin American, then get your TEFL. If you want to teach somewhere else, I recommend getting a degree.

Hello, i want to start on TEFL, i am a third year university student and i am starting my last year this September. I want to obtain my TEFL certification and work through my advisor on landing a job in Asia more specifically Japan. I know the 11 week program for TEFL would end during the middle of my school year and i need to save money to be able to go to japan thst summer…so my question is, could i teach online as an english teacher while i wait for me to obtain my degree, to go teach in person?

Once you have your TEFL you can apply to teach online. If you don’t want to wait, you can tutor independently without one, but you’ll need to find your own students.

ITA is a fantastic course for teaching abroad and online, especially for beginners because it is quite in-depth. If you haven’t taught before, you’ll find this course much better than cheaper TEFl course options, but it is more expensive. It’s up to you and your goals.

Hey ESL Teacher 365 , happy Friday to you. I am 27 years old and have only helped teach as a native speaker when I was 20y/o for a short time. I have also received foreign language classes. I have a rough idea of how to work things give or take. I speak English natively. I have been travelling and working and every other excuse possible not to get a certificate or some sort of qualification ... I have been looking into the CELTA and INTERNATIONAL TEFL ACADAMY, and I am curious if it would be a good idea to get my TEFL degree through ITA to get my foot in the door and a solid foundation , then get my CELTA for a more Professional look and foundation..? I could be wrong but a TEFL would help more with skills to teach kids-high schoolers and would give me a good foundation, whereas a CELTA seals the deal and really gives you a strong foundation. A CELTA teaches you how to teach on a more mature/professional level and to a more mature audience-adults..? I maybe plan to also have another source of income or so , but this is something I would always be able to use and would use as my main source of income more than likely. Thanks In Advance.

TEFL is not a degree, so you will typically need a bachelor’s degree as a minimum in addition to a TEFL. ITA is better if you want to teach both kids and adults whereas CELTA is specific at geared towards teaching adults. You do not need both.

No. CELTA is the Cambridge brand of TEFL and does not replace the degree requirement. This is needed to qualify for a visa. A CELTA and a bachelor's degree are not equivalent.@@VELEZPRODUCTIONS63

A bachelor, master's degree and a teaching credential is the only real way to demand a high salary in teaching in the long run. A Tefl, Celta certificate will only grant you maybe eight to twenty dollars per hour online, but bare in mind that most online companies offer way less. The reason being is that every major online tutoring portal is saturated with applicants, and most are on hiring freezes. Celta costs thousands of dollars while a TEFL course will only cost you under $300 (it does not guarantee more teaching gigs).

@@steve9473 I’ve come to the conclusion of if you truly want it and you put it in Gods hands you will be successful and exceed above and beyond the norm . Given you’ve done your part as well . Being in Ecuador for 5 years and talking with people first hand whom have a celta or Tefl , it’s all about connection and the hustle to be honest . People with a degree still make less than people with only a certificate in several cases . You need connections ! Hustle ! Blessings ! Hard work ! Dedication ! No doubt a degree will get you places , but once people see your results don’t add up to your degree, they will choose the certified over the one with degree; they will make the $bucks ! However if you truly desire to do this and you have a degree you have an upper hand with the status “degree” . Don’t ever let that go . But make sure it’s what you’re putting your hard work and passion into because if not . People could care less about a “degree” … people want dedication and hard work . People want true warriors of wanting to teach and broaden the English language to people ! You can make just as much money with certificate as you can with degree . Especially if you teach private classes . Entrepreneurship is the way to go but it requieres hard work and dedication!!!

It really depends on the jobs you are applying for, but I would say in general, unless you have a teaching certificate or BEd then yes, you will need a TEFL. If you are looking for recruitment agencies, this also depends on the country as not all countries use recruiters. ITA does provide job search assistance. If you want to teach in Asia or international schools, then you can use a recruiter. @@sharon50076

The US and UK are much more difficult to teach in because of the visa process. Typically you will need to be a licensed teacher in your subject and apply for a work visa. ITA is a fantastic course, but it is not designed for the requirements to teach in most English speaking countries.@@sharon50076

They give you a big list of places where you can do your practicum or you can set it up yourself. I chose to do mine 100% online because I live in a small beach community.
