These are my top picks from 2023 for every budget level. This does not cover every robot that I could suggest, but the ones I think most people would like depending on features & effectiveness with cleaning. Each year the technology gets better and the robots become more affordable, but not all robots are created equal even though many look the same. There are many you may want to avoid.

I think detergent injection is just another way to add consumables to the package. A friend of mine just pours it into the tank for a long time now, works great and helps to keep the water fresh

Not the first time I have heard that. I wish it was just an open container that you could add your own solution to. They do last quite a long time and I think they last longer than the separate bottles I buy for my other robots. Not to mention you can refill the bottles in the L20 with your choice of cleaner which makes it a no brainer if you are concerned about being locked into the manufacturer's cleaning solution. On the other hand If you don't care about adding hot water to your water tanks before sending the robot out to clean then having detergent injection might not be as beneficial.

Hi Jamie, I hope you read this and I find you well, can you please tell me which of the following performs the best for its price - all in the same ball park: roborock q5 pro / q7 max dreame d10s / d10s pro / l10 pro / z10 pro I understand the difference in the power/bin/tank, but cannot understand the performance difference. I know the price at least here varies from under 300 euro for the q5 pro all the way up to 450 euro for the z10 pro. And since my wife is still undecided on mopping - I have a lot of models to choose from. Please let me know which one is worth its price the most if you disregard the tank/bin volumes entirely.

We went with the Dreame L10S mainly becvause you can’t buy the Q Revo in the UK. Got it in a sale for a reasonable price. Waste water tank was broken on delivery so I’ve ordered a spare from aliexpress - I didn’t realise how critical a sealed box was for the pump to work

Until Ecovacs can fix their app and more importantly their navigation issues, yes. The Ecovacs can't compete otherwise. If someone wants to buy Ecovacs I would say the T20 Omni is better than the X2 for now.

In your experience, which robovacs perform best for pet hair for both hardwood & carpet? A decent mopping function would be welcomed too. PS, it's nice to find a channel that seems honest... I recently trusted another channel's recommendations and got burned with an absolutely garbage product.

@@jamie.andrews Deebot T20, the only thing that works well is the mopping. That channel has affiliate links, so that should have been a red flag lol. I don't really have a set budget, just hoping to avoid $1600 options. Obstacle avoidance would be good - do you think double brush rolls helps with pet hair or is it a gimmick?

I don't have long haired pets so this is something I do not have first hand experience with. With that said I have heard that on carpet dual rollers work better for pet owners. That also limits you to Roborock. The S8 series has dual rollers and your only option is the S8 Pro Ultra if you want a dock that washes the mop pads and feature wise is similar to the T20. It will cost a bit more though. Roborock just announced a few new versions coming out which is the S8 Max Ultra and S8 Maxv Ultra. I have videos on my channel about those, but they will be more expensive than the Pro model and will not be for sale until April. @@jamie.andrews Just watched all those videos and more... I wish I saw the T20 review before buying (glad it's on its way back to amazon) & I'm interested to see how the CES announcements pan out too. In one of your videos, you mentioned hearing feedback that dual rollers doesn't pick up hair as well on hard surfaces? My home is probably 65% hardwood/tile and 35% mid/high pile carpet... Should I still focus on a dual brush or are there single brush models you think would handle golden retriever shedding well? Obstacle avoidance is a plus, but I don't likely need 10/10 perfection, since it would just be nudging dog toys out of the way and I'm not worried about pet accidents.

@@SoupSandwichh Hard floor pickup of debris was not as good, but I don't test hair so I am not sure how it would perform. If you don't want dual rollers the S7 Max Ultra makes a bunch of sense and the auto empty should perform better with pet hair than the Q Revo.

I am on the market for the Dreams L20 should I wait for the X30 Ultra? I don’t have little kids anymore but between my wife and daughter there is plenty of hair around the house all the time. Thanks

I am testing now and should have a video out in February. Since they have a pre-order that makes it around the same price as the L20 (L20 is $1200 on Amazon right now) I would say to go for the X30 if you can wait for the release. It is basically an improved L20.

the T20 is HORRIBLE!!! Returning mine to Amazon tomorrow because my ultra-cheap Lydsto R1 performs better... The T20 has an embarrassing battery life (40%+ on 300sq/ft of carpet), navigates like a drunken sailor, thinks dust bunnies are objects to avoid not clean, and picks up next to nothing on my carpets on max settings... The only redeemable quality on the T20 is the mopping is quite good on the most aggressive settings, however it's a water guzzler and the LiDAR dome is unusually high, so it can't even go under my coffee/end tables or the couch... It's honestly garbage, pick something else, even if it's more $

I would love to buy a robot vacuum but my house has engineered oak throughout and I’m worried that the brushes or the wheels will scratch the wood. What’s your experience of robots on hardwood floors? Thanks.

The biggest issue with robots scratching the floor does not come from the robot directly, but with it picking up something and dragging it around.

@@stevesmith7675 yes. That is because the roller brush opening is inboard. Mostly helps on hard floor surfaces.

If you have a dog, do you prefer the qrevo or the dreame l20 ultra? does the dream l20 clean better close to the walls or isn’t that worth the extra money for it? Or does the Qrevo also do this well?

If the dog sheds a bunch I would go with the L20 as it can go back to the dock to empty the dustbin more frequently. The L20 will also clean closer to walls than the Q Revo.

s7maxV ultra does a great job as a vac even with pet hair. mediocre as a mop. 15 months in the fan motor quit error 18. that error lead to other errors. robo decided to pay the postage and get it repaired since dozens of resets didn't fix it. kudos for that but up to $1500 and lasts only just over 1 year unacceptable. many others have had the same error 18 with the s7. one major issue to me is the accumulated hair and dust in every opening, visible and not, underneath the unit and most can't be accessed without taking apart the bottom panels. i can't speak for other vacs but these are high maintenance and i would never buy another roborock

Wow! I just had an epiphany! The Dreame L30, has heated water, the L20 doesn't. In this video we see Hot water being added to the Tank. Why not simply buy an aquarium heater and stick it into the tank? It would heat the water, never getting too hot, with adjustable temperatures, and auto off as well as safety features. If you dont mind a cord sticking out the lid. 😒 time to head over to reddit

Well that won't work for a few reasons. The clean water tank must be perfectly sealed to work. Second an aquarium heater must be fully submerged or you risk damage to the heater. The better thing to do it just fill the clean water tank with hot water before you clean your floors.

@jamie.andrews Creating an auto off to prevent damage is very simple to resolve with a conductive switch. My current power mop has something similar. Just need a very small heater. Also a simple smarthome outlet plug for scheduling the heater around the run time of the mop. I don't have my l20 robot yet (comes Friday), however I saw replacement parts including tanks for under $20. If the tank has to be sealed, could modify a spare tank lid to accommodate this. 3D printers are also a thang. Rubber washers and compression fittings are a dime a dozen. Filling the mop manually every time, is too much work, and is counter to the whole hands-free automation . Also there's the water and sewage connection attachment for an outrageous $380.00 (universal kits are $180). It can just as easily be connected to your hot water line as to your cold. That would give lukewarm at best.

@@kewlztertc5386 I think you next issue might be getting it to heat the water to 130 degrees. At a minimum you would want 120 degrees. Sounds like a lot of work for hot water mop washing, but you sound like the type of person who likes to tinker as well. Keep me posted if you do make something work!

seems a lot of the vacs look so much alike i wonder if one company makes them all for others like many other items made in one factory slapping on different labels. so many reviews all have different opinions which is better some agree on the same one. none have long term use.

The one company making it for many does happen, but not that often. The large robot vacuum manufacturers make their own like Roborock, iRobot, Dreame, Ecovacs. Where I have seen this happening is companies that are tech companies, but not robot vacuum companies. Examples are iLife and Eufy. A Chinese company makes their robots for them. I do long term test mine. I still daily use my long term S7 which is now 4 years old. I still use the S7 Maxv along with a few others although the S7 Maxv will soon be retired.

The S8 Pro Ultra is the least interesting Roborock vacuum they ever made, it's only interesting at Q Revo pricing. It has no truly interesting extra features, not even an RGB camera..

Dreame L20 is better than Roborock S8 in comparison? How about their customer service? Roborock has the poorest customer service so far.

The retail price of the S8 Pro Ultra is $1599, so a bit out of this comparison. If it were I would still pick the L20 as it has way more features and the object avoidance is head and shoulders better. I can't speak to customer service as I do not use it, but I hear complaints from all companies. In reality I find the robots to be trouble free as I have only had 2 breakdowns in the years that i have been reviewing. And I continue to use my robots. My S7 is still used daily.

i haven't had any issues with robo cust svc. i can understand their 100 questions about unit issues and ownership although annoying. they really can't solve anything over the phone except to send it in for repair or replace.
