@Steve (TurkeyBowMaster) Grace will show you his tried and true system that he has used to arrow hundreds of deer and hogs. Steve's system has proven quiet enough to climb and hang with deer less than 10 yards, and he has done this numerous times. Steve's system allows comfortable 360 degree shooting.

I hope my grandkids never see this video. We never used safety lines back in the day until my best friend fell 20 feet and broke his back (1977). No cellphones and it took me 2 hours to reach help and 4 more hours for life flight to get him out. He lived and thank God he wasn't paralyzed, but he has been disabled ever since. I would advise young hunters watching this video to wear a linesmen rope. P.S. send us the link to the video of him climbing a tree with deer 10 yards away please.

New title suggestion: "If life's not worth living, climb like this". Seriously man, that's a death wish.

First video I saw he was showing on a map where he’d seen shooters. I’m sure the locals appreciated that. Then this one. Climbing gaffs/spikes aren’t legal on probably 99% of public ground but if you’re hunting private ground there are plenty of videos teaching how to do it safely with a linesman rope. Oh, you say they’re legal? Check again. Even if they’re not technically prohibited by a particular agency they likely require the use of a full body harness used properly because they don’t want hunts interrupted by emergency personnel having to rescue some dude who thought he was invincible.

They were great back when they were legal. Now I 2 tether, and it's way quieter.

Years ago I made my gaff stirrups buckle on very similar to yours. I used a belt rope around the tree for safety . Would have my rifle on my back. Then would pull up my heavy arse home made platform. I had made a strap on bracket the platform hung into. Mad setting up the platform simple. This was in the mid 80’s. My platform had a little fold down seat just enough to be able to rest the legs. Later when I got serious back into bow hunting I used this system. I loved the mobility. 👍👍

I liked mine a lot. Lite and with a decent set of backpack straps vs their over the shoulder with the chain they'd carry in nice. I've set them a little to hard a few times. That's never fun. Lol. Standing on a step below the stand kneeling upward trying to break if free. That aid. Set right they're solid as a rock.
@TurkeyBowMaster300
@TurkeyBowMaster300 6 ай бұрын
The chain is a pain. I think you would like the rope a lot better. It's almost impossible to set a spirit too hard with a rope. It's lighter, quieter, and faster, and so easy to remove from your back one handed. I do want to install some backpack straps for long hauls. I think I could add a load shelf that would double as a foot prop. That would make it a platform and a pack frame

Honestly, kind of jealous. Nobody can argue that isn't fast and quiet. As a saddle hunter, I might try this but I am adding my one stick rope or a lineman rope for safety. I trust that you believe in your system, maybe I will too when I try it, but for now I have to have a rope. Good demo sir!

That's the reason I like gaffs.. you can fall and grab the tree and firepole down. With steps, firepole is not an option

If you had a smaller platform, I wonder how comfortable it would be to just leave the Spurs on if there was no danger of them clanking against anything. I have the Kuhnert ambush by LONE WOLF, and it is a fairly small platform with no cables or anything like that.I was just wondering if it would be very comfortable to leave those spurs on.

Now isn't there a way we can leave those spikes on maybe if we used a ring of steps for quietness, because what if you dropped one. Anyways you're definitely the man with this style and probably the most proficient way I ever seen for quickness and for you ease. I would like too try it it but I'm not trained at it for 35 years and I'm now 60.

I have left them on when gun hunting, but I would be 45 feet high and taking long shots. The leather on the gaffs make noise. I suppose a upholstery person could make pads from something quiet

this would be my number 1 option but unfortunately hunting in public land in my state won't allow a metal object driven into trees
@TurkeyBowMaster300
@TurkeyBowMaster300 6 ай бұрын
That's too bad, but technically, these are not driven into trees and are definitely not left in them. It's unfortunate that the original purpose of laws have been redefine. I have talked to the guys who sat in the meetings when the laws were made, and the original purpose was to keep medal objects...nails, railroad spikes, etc from being left in trees where they could do damage to expensive saw blades and chippers. What is crazy is I see numerous ladder stands, climbers, and climbing sticks grown into trees, which is exactly what the law intended to prevent. I have never seen any gaffs left in trees, and at $250 to $900 dollars a pop, I doubt I ever will. This in actuality, according to the purpose of the law makes gaffs the most legal of all climbing tools.

Bar Nunn that was the fastest climb I’ve ever seen I would be willing to give that a try with a lineman’s belt. And in part two I do like the idea in conjunction with the climbing platform especially for a bigger boy

I've been a lineman for 20 years, this is exactly how I started and climbed for MANY years......Eventually rules and OSHA mandates required 100% fall restraint while climbing, but I will say that free climbing is far more efficient and wears you out WAY less......Stays safe out there, and good luck hunting brother!
