We have tried and used many quick LED low voltage outdoor landscape wire connectors over the years and have finally found the best one . . . in our opinion 🤓 This video is a quick how to and overview of our little blue connector that not only makes a solid connection between #18 and #16 gauge wire only and comes complete with moisture resistant gel to help reduce corrosion and oxidation, one of most common reason for outdoor wire connection failure. Use connector with only #18 and #16 gauge wire only.

Used these today to wire deck step lighting. The feed wire was 16/2 landscape wire--on the larger side for this item, so I had to pull the little pin all the way out to get the wire into the slot. Once that was in, and the pin was set back in, all worked great. Thanks for the recommendation and the video. Very helpful.

Glad to hear you were able to get the connectors to work with your work around! We have discovered not all 16/2 wire is made to the same spec and some sheathing can be a little thicker requiring a little extra working to make the connection.

Good one. I would rate the connector as GOOD because it would not work on 12/2 wire, which is what I would use to tie all my lights. If it had that versatility, I would rate it as excellent.

Very neat connector design. As I'm new to electrical wiring, specifically for landscape lights, I'm can't shake the thought that the connections are effective only if the wires are twisted together in a wire nut or via a crimped splice where you can verify a good contact has been made. If enough experienced folks vouch for these connectors being just as reliable I'll definitely try it out.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We have used these in multiple projects out in the field and once you get the hang of how they work it becomes very easy to work with and makes a solid connection. Sometimes you miss the fixture wire and have to pull the tin plated metal U-Contact out and retry but it's pretty easy to do. Feel free to read through the comments on the video or checkout the reviews on our website ⬇️ www.totaloutdoorlighting.com/review/product/list/id/8594/ - have a blessed day 🙂

These connectors work great. You may want to wear gloves while using them as they become slippery due to the silicone. Also, make sure the wires stays in and use a good pair of pliers to push the metal bar down. The bar must go in straight so adjust the pliers or channel lock. I did 14 lights using these connectors and it took about an hour.

Hi... thanks for video!! Hope all is safe. I have a project im going to be starting shortly. Its outside post on a deck, at every 8 feet. The post had old but still very nice solar lamps on them which dont work. After watching a few ( ok u busted me) a lot of videos on led light. I decided to clean the glass, drill some small holes in the right places,glue up inside of the lamps 12-15 leds then cut, solder wire connector, channel post,and find out the best way to wire this mess. If i would need 2 power supplies? 1?? Overall run will be approximately 20feet x 64 feet. Going to use an outdoor timer, with cover. Lights should never get wet.. What are your thoughts??? Could sure use ur help Thanks chuck
@Totallightingsupply
@Totallightingsupply 4 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a huge custom project that an electrician could help much better than us. Generally speaking, though, you would need to know what the voltage requirement is for the LEDs. Once you have that you would need to calculate the total wattage the LEDs consume. Then find a transformer with the correct voltage and wattage to handle your LEDs.

Very good video AND connector. Since many landscape systems use # 12 or #14 main line wire, you would think the connector manufacturer would offer these in a large wire size as well. To bad, these won't work for me and I suspect many others....
@Totallightingsupply
@Totallightingsupply 5 жыл бұрын
We couldn't agree with you more. I think since the industry is all shifting to LED, the larger gauge wire isn't needed as much any more. So the manufacturer doesn't see a need to make larger wire connectors . . . Glad you liked our video 🙂

Their larger diameter connectors do not come with the gel. Also, make sure you get 2 per fixture. Hello, thank you so much for all of the very informative videos. I am about to begin my landscape lighting project for a patio and I’ve spent a lot of hours watching your videos and others online. The big question I have for you is I notice that you place all of your fixtures where they are going to go and then run the wire from the transformer to each fixture leaving some extra. Then at that point you place the 3M Scotchlok Electrical IDC 804-BOX connector on the wires and make the connection. In other videos online I have noticed that people cut the wire that has been run from the transformer at each fixture and splice the wires manually and use a wire nut or something similar. Is one way better than the other? Which one will hold up better over time? Thanks again for all of your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

We find that the 🔵 blue connector in the video works the best all round. It reduces installation time and helps keep moisture out which is one of the biggest reasons outdoor low voltage wire connections fail. We prefer using the blue connector due to its flexibility. Lets say you do not like the placement of the outdoor light and you want to move it but find the perfect place is out of reach of the original connection. With the blue connector you can remove it with some needle nose pliers and reconnect using a new blue wire connector. The low voltage wire sheathing fills in the displacement the blue connector made reducing moisture contact and failure. The methods that connect requiring splicing into the main feed line by cutting the main line will require additional wire connectors sometimes 2 times more and also introduces another point of failure on your main feed line. There are many ways to solve the problem but we find the blue connector is the easiest and fastest solution with the best long term results. Hope this helps. For more question please don't hesitate to contact us directly here www.totaloutdoorlighting.com/contacts/ we don't always see the KZfaq comments right away 🙂

Not sure if you are aware, Carlos, but there is a trade war with China right now that has increased a majority of the prices of Chinese goods imported into the USA. We are a small family operated business and we do our best to keep prices down but unfortunately the increase was greater than what we could sustain and we had to raise our prices.
