Thanks for this. I knew a few so called influencers on Instagram that are selling the fact that their reels are all filmed on iPhone 12/13 when in reality they're using an actual camera.

Hey Anuj. This is the way to do a video on a specific topic. Perfect. No wasted motion. Quick and intelligible delivery. Get right to the point and cover camera, lens, explain the codec and why it's important and confirmed what I was wondering: can I just turn my A73 sideways to do shorts. I have the Tamron 28-75 2.8. Very much appreciate the kind words my friend! Quick note, you can definitely keep your lens at 35 mm, or even push to 75 mm if you want that look, but it would just depend on how far you have to sit from the camera to get the full framing that you want. 28 mm and wider will simply make it very easy to be close to the camera while shooting and you’ll capture much more of the background in your footage. If you can afford it, and are willing to really build familiarity with your camera, the Sony A7iv! And I personally would pair it with the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 for vertical content, but you generally want something in the 16-35 range! 💯✔️🔥

The ZV1 is an amazing camera to start with as well. I would recommend considering the zv-e10 if you’re going down that line of cameras!

@@sickasitgets386 A7iii if you have the money to invest and are taking content creation seriously. Quality of life improvements, image quality and color profiles, and so on are not only better, but will hold for at least the next 3-5 years. A6400 is awesome forsure starting out as a hobby, great quality, but for production efficiency and better workflow experience, A7iii every time. A6400 still cool and holds its own, but outclassed in 2023

@sickasitgets386 no I didn’t buy a separate screen, the a7iii does have a screen, it’s unfortunately not a flip screen, but it never took much effort to set up the look when I was alone. And once I set it up, I never moved the tripod or knew the positioning so having a flip screen started not to matter. In fact, it helped me more because I learned to look into and speak to the camera much faster. Those would be my thoughts

Most people talk about shooting in Slog3 and converting to REC 709 etc. is there a setting to use my footage right after shooting and it still looks decent without me going through all those processes of color grading e.g if I’m recording a 30 sec reel, I won’t see the need to go through all the grading. Any tips?

Yes, you would just shoot with no picture profile selected, which will give you the natural colors that it sees. Of course, even with that footage, if you wanted to color-grade, you can very much do so!

The Sony A7iii definitely has better video quality than the iPhone 14, but the iPhone 14 is great. Great phone to shoot content no doubt 💯✔️🔥

Is there a point in getting the camera if you have a android phne and a windows computer? Will that mess up the quality of the video once you upload it to social media?

That depends, if you’re fine with you’re android quality, then maybe not. But as you pursue higher level content, you’ll find having a camera to be a huge plus! And as long as you have the correct export settings and edit according to the quality of your footage, you should be fine!

Is there any advantage one would have shooting content with a mirrorless camera or DSLR over their phone, if their phone can capture and record at 1080p x 1920p and 30fps, which is the TikTok/Reels standard?

I was reading tik tok doesn’t support uploads over 1080p so won’t tik tok/reels knock your resolution down if you shoot in 4K?

If tik tok does compress your videos to match the standardized resolution; downsized 4K from a DSLR will still be much more qualitative than downsized 4K from a phone! And the advantage of shooting content with a DSLR would be firstly, quality, and secondly, flexibility in the editing process! If you aim to do higher level content, a DSLR will give the ability to retain quality extremely well! Phones tend to deteriorate the more you dial in and edit them, though it’s still very doable! I think it just comes down to what level of content you’re looking to do! 💯✔️🔥

Usually the case is, if you’re already shooting 4K, when you export, make sure to use a high bitrate. I usually go 60+ with mine to overcompensate for compression! And also, if you haven’t already, make sure high quality uploads are enabled on your Instagram. This is a setting you’ll find under data usage. Hope that helps! 💯✔️🔥

Hi is there a vertical video setting on the camera itself? I’ve been shooting in 4K with camera attached vertical on the tripod. Then with FCPX I make a project set to 1920x1080 (instead of landscape 1080x1920) but I noticed I still have to zoom loads later in .

There isn’t a vertical setting, as far as I know, in the A7iii itself. I’m not sure why your program isn’t matching it up, but if it retains the image quality you require , I think that would be the most important aspect!

I have a question, you said that you can record in 4K 30FPS, but my Galaxy 22+ record in 4K 60FPS, so why it would look better on the Sony Camera?

Great question bro! Nowadays phone videos are becoming comparable for sure, however, not all 4K are equal. Amongst a few reasons, the biggest reason is probably that cameras have a much higher bitrate than a phone does when it comes to 4K video. Meaning you’ll have a higher quality of 4K, you’ll be able to edit the image more while retaining quality, etc. Phones are generally not “true 4K”. Maybe I should make a video on this HAHA. 💯✔️🔥

I would recommend the Sony Zv-e10 forsure, or earlier models in that line. Or the Sony A6500 (used ones are closer to 600$) or even the A6400! Definitely still do your own research, but these are great cameras, especially if you’re just starting out 💯✔️🔥

How do you set the camera up to shoot in vertical mode? I have a Sony A7iii and I can’t seem to switch it from horizontal to vertical while shooting. Does it automatically switch to vertical or something?

Once you turn the camera vertical, it should automatically start recording the footage in a vertical format!

If that’s the case, either drop the resolution of the footage while you edit, use proxies, or upgrade your laptop to one that can handle raw 4K footage!

I’m not to sure, there can be a lot of reasons for that. I would just make sure that when you export your edit, the audio settings are turned on so it’s correctly exported with your video!
