Chad, I understand your concern. I mention that I use Windex, but suggested that anyone can use their favorite window cleaner. There is not a Windex warning on my manual attached below the fireplace. It is a Gas fireplace and has minimal carbon build up. I have had great results using Windex. If anyone wants to use an alternative to Windex, I would suggest using pure vinegar or purchasing a fireplace window cleaner at the hardware store. @@in2video Windex contains ammonia and ammonia based cleaners can stain the glass and/or react with the coating on the inside of the glass resulting in permanent damage. Vinegar & water is an acceptable alternative and non-ammonia based kitchen cleaners are typically fine as long as they are not abrasive. There is also "Gas Fireplace Glass Cleaner" products which are created specifically for the the glass used in gas fireplaces - these are similar to ceramic stove top cleaners.
