Debbie and Eddie's marriage was already on the rocks when Todd died. Eddie had already moved out, but of courseTaylor becomes the reason for their failed marriage. Not true. What happened when Todd was killed is not unusual. Closeness of friends during tumultuous heartbreak and grief sometimes puts people in situations that they would not normally be in. I can understand it, but I don't approve of what happened. Eventually, they both agreed that EDDIE was one of the biggest mistakes that they BOTH made. As for Richard, he was Taylor's match. There was no doubt that their passion for each other was the kind most people couldn't even comprehend. They DID love eachother. They were both fiery personalities who LOVED to brawl. This was their dance. Most people will never be loved so pasionately in their life as these two were to each other. The haters will always hate. The jealous will always be jealous. Those that have been fortunate enough in life to have been loved by someone so deeply and completely will get it. The others really don't matter.

Don't know how true this is. Evidently when Carrie Fisher told ET that her father had died, she cried. She knew she had hurt him ... but there was little she could have done to prevent her relationship with Burton.

Bull💩 Katherine Hepburn & Spencer Tracey carried on an illicit affair while he was still married. And told Hepburn he'd Never divorce his wife & he didnt! Then there's Bogey & Bacall!! Laurence Olivier & Vivian Leigh./Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman (he was married when they hooked up) Why did they have to try putting the screws to Taylor? Jealousy! That's why!!

I believe it was because of the notoriety of the stars. Elizabeth was the highest paid actress; the most beautiful actress and a superstar from childhood on; an outspoken, exotic actress who appeared to be able to have any man she desired. Burton was loved by intellectuals for his genius on-stage, who turned out to be just as great in films. Also he was an obvious "man's man" - handsomely rugged, not the usual Hollywood "smoothie." AND Elizabeth had only recently stolen another husband (Eddie Fisher) from America's sweetheart, Debbie Reynolds. So they were gorgeous, talented, sexy, self-confident because of their obvious popularity and talent, and shamelessly notorious. This was just more of the same for them, and they reveled in their naughty love affair because they didn't give a hoot about anything but the fulfillment of their (understandable) lust.. It was chemistry, all the way, and if you've never had it with someone (who was married, with kids) you can't understand it. The flame just goes right through you and you are helpless.

I just finished reading Furious Love and Richard Burton Diaries. I say, Elizabeth was more in love with Richard than him. He was a narcissistic womanizer who loved girls younger than him. When he was in his 20s, he had a relationship with a 14 year old girl( she did not tell him her real age but it did not stop him having sex with her after she found out). In his diaries, he'd mention Elizabeth's weight and I think his love for her was based on how she looks like overall. He said he could not get his hands off her when she was slim and he was not happy when she gain weight. When she was older, during Private Lives play, on his diary he criticized her weight and you could tell he was no longer attracted to her while Elizabeth, in the meantime, was still wildly in love with him. According to his diary, he cheated on her days after their 2nd wedding in Botswana and he wrote was not sexually attracted to her. He may have loved her the most among the women he loved but he never loved her like how she loved him. Richard loved himself the most.

I see it differently. I think Burton had the more mature love than she. At least later on. I think he tried, sometimes in vain, to save his life and get sober and lead a calmer life. She was still drinking and taking the pills and acting erraticly. I think he would have gone right back to her had they been able to lead that calmer, more sober life together. I don't think he loved her any less, just could not take that life anymore. Obviously her constitution was stronger than his. Even though she did get clean later on, some of that erratic personality remained. Riding on motorcycles with Malcom Forbes, marrying a much younger construction worker out of rehab at Neverland. She always seemed anxious and frantic to me. And by the way, that woman who claimed to have had the affair with Burton at 14 I believe could not prove this affair which was most probably fabricated. Enough was known about where he was appearing and what he was like to construct a story. Anyway, they are both gone and less and less people even know who they were anymore, proving the old addage, "Vanity, vanity, all is vanity."

Both a little bit overrated in looks (they both had sexy pretty eyes) however both aged quicker than some of their contemporaries due to the alcohol and also their acting abilities weren’t that subtle, but just like today the scandal and fights and gossip made them fascinating to everyone. I don’t think he was the nicest man either, full of himself, bragging to others on the set that he had f**ked her in the back of his Cadillac. He was very rude to people and full of himself. But just like today the scandal and gossip, the affairs, the fights, the drama, the alcohol which aged both of them considerably in looks and weight, it all just becomes fascinating to people and they become bigger than they necessarily should be. It’s exactly the same today.
