Thanks for recognizing and respecting First Nations bro!! I'm from Canada so we aren't related but a lot of us have had the same struggles across the globe in recent centuries. I'm casted up after a dance party with a black bear last week wondering how i can make this new semester at college work, been kinda rough lol. Agree, and it needs to be noted that the pressure on native species is not from first nation people, but due to western influence and practices. First nation people should not be penalised or curtailed as a result. We as Australians need to solve our terrible track record of endangerment and extinction of our native species.

A lot of what our aboriginal brothers deal with is so unfair. They were treated so badly in the past & are still treated pretty fucking badly in some ways. It’s great that you got to show the beautiful side of modern indigenous culture! Great job man!

@@StLMikie they’re underfunded, some are living in almost third world conditions in the small towns in the north. The government doesn’t do enough to help them & racism still runs strong. Growing up in a town that has two indigenous “missions” I saw that racism first hand, it’s truely disgusting.

I like that one episode in china where some guy who made dumplings or something asks him how many subscribers he has and he said 5 million and the guy says "thats not that many" and then Sonny got miffed and said his dumplings were only ok

This show with its style of commentary and deep understanding of not only food, but much bigger cultural aspects of a society, is certainly contributing significantly to somewhat filling the giant Anthony Bourdain sized gap this world currently has. Hard shoes to fill, but this production is on the right track. Keep going!

Truely a masterclass production, tv worthy. Talks about the food, the history of the food, the origin of the people and very insightful information about the culture. Seeing the hunt of green sea turtle was a bit hard to watch but again it’s part of their culture and from what’s been shown, the aboriginal people show a very high level of knowledge and respect for what they hunt.

I agree. The sea turtles aren't endangered because of them, anyway. It's people who're greedily hunting them without caring about their population paired with the global waste problem. They actually make sure that populations of the turtles in their territories remain as healthy as they can be while still keeping their traditional diet alive.

@@Kiterou I lived in Hawaii for 20 years. The green sea turtle population once it went under the endangered species list then exploded into such numbers. That you can easily sustainably hunt them as long as you weren't just trying to kill a dozen of them at a time but literally only took one. Try fishing off of most of their coasts and the sea turtles were getting your bait every time. Especially the spots were you were fishing deep holes for ulua. They told me that turtles blood drunk fresh was a cure for asthma. I don't know I have asthma but I never tried it.

I subscribed after the 1st video I saw from this channel and it is now my new obsession. Never have I gained such a drastic interest and appreciation for not just food, but culture, people and animals as well, thanks to the wholesome style of these videos. Sonny's personality is intoxicating, the humor is a treasure and the knowledge is abundant and never-ending. Edit: I also very much appreciate how Sonny tries to taste some things in its raw form so we can understand more about the flavor and texture of the bare food itself without the seasoning or style of cooking

Being a Sri Lankan Tamil born in the UK, I also grew up eating something similar called Marmite. Im pretty sure the taste is very much the same and we ate it as a spread on bread or as a soup by mixing it into hot water. Its definitely an acquired taste 😂 I would like to add that the Australian aboriginal people seem very similar to Sri Lankan veddas especially. They also hunt and eat monitor lizards and sea turtles as well as sharks, rays and skates, and bush fowl. I believe they're closely related genetically.

This show is amazing. Yes the production and the experiences are amazing but I think my most favorite thing about it is just Sonny himself. The man is so open minded and so humble, you can just tell how mentally mature he is and yet he is so adventurous and young spirited, love the channel!

This is something we lack a lot of in Australia, the traditional of the aboriginals. I am a European Australian with part-aboriginal friends and relatives but we all mostly live the same modern lifestyles. It is so inspiring and valuable to see and experience the traditional methods of our indigenous people. And as always, Sonny and his team do a great job of showing the story and culture behind the food. Much love and respect.

I think these aborigines could find more sand than that to put on the food. I just couldn't see myself paying for that whole experience lol. That's just a tad bit to wild. That one kid said he hunts 6 or 7 sea turtles per year. He didn't say anything about not hunting them if they were low in numbers. At this point in my life I feel like we all came from some tribe at some point in our history so what if we all just ate whatever animals our ancestors ate wether they are endangered or not. There are so many other types of protein these people have access to. Hell the kangaroo is way over populated. I can understand if they lived in a place like the arctic or somewhere that there is limited opportunities to kill something to eat but for the people who have all sorts of options to still target an animal that could soon not be around anymore I just feel is, not selfish but it's just not necessary or even smart. Like these Asian countries who just don't care. Japan is the worst. They over fish everything and they eat everything. China as well with there "everything is traditional medicine" b.s! Yeah ok I'm american I don't understand I'm sure I'll hear but seriously we all came from somewhere. Why is my heritage not as important as someone else's? I know for a fact I'm not going to be allowed to just hunt whatever I please under the idea that I know more about the animal than you do. I understand it's not these people who made there animals endangered but we are all apart of this planet and at some point in our history we are all going to need to accept that it's up to us all to save it. The human being is the worst thing that ever happened to planet earth. We think we are special and a god created us but to me it feels like we are more like a cancer that just keeps taking killing and destroying! What God would create that? None that I ever hear about seem like they would appreciate the path humanity has taken. We just keep growing and taking away and leaving a mess in our wake.

the young turtle hunter, he said all you need to hear, at the end of the day he eats it all and it's for his family. you bet he knows before any supermarket chicken shopper when there is a decline in turtle population and he cares about it more because he needs to.

The stuffed roo stomach is very similar to "Saumagen", a Southern German delicacy, where the stomach of a pig is filled with a farce made from offal, and then cooked to perfection in soup with added vegetables. Sounds strange, but tastes marvellous !

I'm an Aussie & I'd have to say the best meal I have ever had is fresh mudcrab I caught myself, with home brewed beer I made myself, followed by a bottle of Bundy Rum I bought myself from the nearest bottelo. Sonny I have watched this episode twice now! I agree with you about the turtles. The funny part is I have no issues with eating snapping turtle and other turtles like that but the sea turtles are so beautiful it would have bothered me as well. I have sooo much respect for you and your channel. I want to say thank you for what you do. Please don’t ever stop what you do. Your channel is not just entertaining but it is educational. @BestEverFoodReviewShow Hey Sonny! Just watched Surviving Australia!! Catching & Cooking Their WILDEST Animals. Don’t know how I missed it as I have notifications on. This show by far, was the best show that you have produced. Not only was it informative, educational and courteous. It also brought out feelings in me that was reminiscent to the of the day when the WTC went down. I can’t describe the exact feeling, just as you couldn’t. I don’t believe there is a word for it… Somewhere between remorse and stupefied. I felt this way about the Green Sea Turtle. Bigger than hurt - offended or feeling human, much bigger.

Here in Tasmania, the old-timer recipe for cooking Possum (or Native Hen) was to pop them in a pot with a brick, simmer until the brick was tender, then throw out the Possum and eat the rest. As modern bricks are fired at higher temperatures (therefore harder) you'd probably want to tenderize the brick first. Cheers from the Apple Isle!!

So lucky to experience the amazing world this is my dream life. I’m currently living with cancer and I don’t want sympathy but I would love to experience life like this. Love you guys and will keep watching it’s as close as I will get.

My paternal grandfather was one of the stolen aboriginal children. He ended up in the UK during the Second World War. So we don't have our culture, and we don't even know where he came from. So, seeing aboriginal people keeping culture alive is incredible. It was really emotional for me to watch

We are still breaking the UN charter of children's rights' in 2023 but we are slowly getting better. They fucked up when they kidnapped and educated us...some of us have become damn good lawyers😂

god dang the way he explained how being like.. traditional and how they pushed through all of their hardships and are still able to push forward because they know that doing their thing just works. and how it could work for everyone or like how he said he just wanted to show people how they sustainably do everything. idk it was an unexpectedly philosophical look on the world, i loved it :3

My 6 yr old is a HUGE Sonny fan and we watch this together. He is so outgoing and open because of this show. We hunted down frogs legs when he was 4 because he wanted to try it because of these shows. He has been planning world travels and it's a big part of his personality. Thanks guys ❤

In the Philippines we call it also as dugong. This vlog is very informative and interesting. Great job! Nice way to show the cultural side connected to food . Learned the story 9f the aboriginal people story the same as what happened to aboriginals here in Canada. Great job!

This was a really cool show. I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was there with y'all. I am an EXTREMELY picky eater, so I couldn't eat most of what you had, but I've been to a pig roast for my buddy's birthday and it was FIRE! However, that first emu dish where it was pan seared looked really good.
