Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. I like that the Filipinos are taught from a very young age that our ancestors are the Aeta, Malay and Indonesians. So, Indonesians are technically our brothers. But the Philippine Islands were not a part of Indonesia as far as I know. Indonesians are one of our (Filipinos) ancestors and they came in here through the Balangays (Wooden Boats). Barangay (Village) is based on the word Balangay. Please enlighten me if I'm mistaken.

I LOVE stink beans! I ate so many of those when I visited Southeast Asia, they are perfect with ‘Sambal’, white rice and any sort of grilled/fried protein (tofu, chicken, beef, fish etc). They are fresh and crunchy eaten raw. They kinda taste like asparagus to me, my favorite vege. The problem with stink beans is they make your breath stink (really hard to brush off the stink, you need to also gargle with mouth wash), and your pee and poo will smell like literal hell.

What a coincidence, I just came back from the Inner Kanekes (Baduy is considered an exonym) last week. The food that you had was totally different with what we had as many of the ingredients for your food are forbidden to plant for those in the Inner villages. My host never mentioned about squirrels, but he did tell us about deers and boars. About your question on why can’t those on the Outer Kanekes just leave altogether and join the rest of the world, it might be more complicated than that. I asked the same question during my stay, and according to my host leaving their community would mean severing their ties with the people, which is why no one has ever done that (at least according to him). Two of his siblings decided to leave the Inner Kanekes to Outer Kanekes but they still visit each other. This would be impossible if they decided to abandon their community.

Another great piece from BEFRS, as someone who was born and raised in Jakarta, I've heard plenty of stories about the Suku Badui. These people live basically next door to the capital but we know almost nothing about them as they're very secluded and secretive, fun fact is some of the stories I received from those who traveled to the Badui Land were a bit mythical and transcendental which created a sort of eerie and spooky stigma about the tribe. It's refreshing to finally be able to see them in a more humane and somewhat normal way. Thanks Sonny for adding more stories about my country !

They're still sundanese not another tribe. For the most part they even considered as OG sunda people who still practice sundanese anchestor way of life. Other are people of Kampung Naga and Sunda Wiwitan/Buhun comunity.

A possible correction....that shot of the bag with the word "Sasa" was probably MSG. They flavor everything in Indonesia with it along with salt. Usually if you don't want MSG you say "tanpa sasa"....salt is "Garam"....otherwise I love that you're featuring Indonesia.... Commented on this before. I've been living in West Java for over 6 years now. Pete enak 👍🏼
