🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

My Mom passed away Feb. 6th 2023 and watching this video made my teary eyed It was just one Because That was one of my Mom's favorite things to do Every year she wanted to go to the fair to get corn on the cob because Corn on the cob from the fair and it does not matter what fair you go to The corn on the cob is ALWAYS so yummy It was just what she loved to do once a year and when I was a teenager My sister moved out the house so I was the only kid still at home we would go pick the best corn on the cob our selves to go home and have tomato slices and corn on the cob once a year That was our thing because there was this old man that lived down the street the grew the biggest most sweetest tomato's till this day I have ever tasted He would bring me tomato's lol because I would sneak over and hide in the bushes with a salt shaker and eat his tomato's like an apple and one day he came out and said What are you doing? It scared me so much I cried I was about 10 or 11 years old and it made him feel so bad he found out i lived down the street and he went and talked to my Mom This was back in the 1980's early 1990's sometime When people didn't call the cops they talked to each other and fixed he stupid things that went on between each other like adults should So every year He would bring tomato's over to my mom so we could have tomato slices and corn on the cob lol and No Joke them were the best tomatoes ever in my life I have ever ate Memories you can't buy in no store

KUDOS!*

I come from Ghana, and roasted (grilled) corn is very common in the rainy season, when a lot of corn is harvested. You can buy corn either boiled or roasted. We dip it into slightly salty water, instead of butter. And it is taken with dry coconut. Tastes great!

It's actually a very VERY different taste than Ghanas corn. Being as I was raised in Alaska I definitely didn't grow up in a corn existing place... went to nebraska and world got a bit more open. Ghana 2 years later. I did the butter over the water as it was an option.

Both in your own right are amazing and so talented, but together you harken back to Martin and Lewis, and all of the greatest of all time. That blows my mind that it took him so long to be accepted to be aloud to sell his corn at a fair! When I was about 7 years old I literally asked for nothing but corn on the cob for my birthday, and that year was probably the best birthday I ever had, and I was not a deprived child one bit. We sat in our backyard under our giant tree and ate corn on the cob for hours it seems. But a lot of good hours! Next to a corn dog and fair Taffy, a roasted corn would be on the first 3 on my list to have to get at the fair. I love mine on a fire but on a barbecue is almost as good and definitely worth paying for over anything else.

Gosh... If I can afford it sometime, I'm totally going on a food pilgrimage to the Americas. The things they serve (and EAT) are like mental torture, for a Norwegian that grew up in a country where the elders still think black pepper is a bit too spicy, and where garlic was something we stopped bullying the Arabs for in the late 90's or so. Still Scandinavian cousine is such a tasteless affair, it explain why obesity haven't managed to become a problem here, although it totally would become one, if we had 1/10th of the options for snacks as places like USA with such a mix of various comfort foods.

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches are normal fair for southern Tennessee and north Georgia, so are tomato sandwiches. Another strange food is pear salad, which is canned pears with mayo mixed with cheese in the center of the pear. Oh banana sandwiches which is mayo and bananas sliced long on bread. That is not a pambazo. Where I grew up, a pambazo is a round, firm, airy bread roll completely powdered with flour, it's therefore white and about the size and shape of a small burger bun... usually we just cut it in two and smear some real frijoles refritos in the middle (made with black beans, fried with lard), but sometimes we jazz it up with slices of fresh Mexican cheese, a whole chipotle, maybe some fine chorizo de bolita and aguacates. And I miss the horchata from Veracruz, made with coconut instead of the rice version they sell here in the States... and all the other aguas frescas like jamaica, guanabana, tamarindo, tepache (fresh or fermented to make it alcoholic, made by fermenting the pineapple skins and sometimes extra chunks of pineapple and the core). It's very hard to accept "Mexican" food made in Texas or the Southwest, it's very gringofied. I'd rather eat in México... at least 200 miles from the American border, but even there some of the crap may have migrated south somehow.

Belgian here. I must say those guy's fries look just right. Had a ton of fries in north America, and it mostly was crap. Those are cooked properly with separate oil baths. Usually we use a longer cooking on the first and just a second other bath here after a short rest. Being on the clock though, three baths isnt a bad solution.

@Sean Costello I was not talking about land mass, bears, or even moose. I was referring to Minnesota's need to have the "biggest" things. Like Paul Bunyan his ox babe. Or our sculpture of the cherry and the spoon. Alaska wins, no contest if we are talking land mass. Alaska even beats mn for total shoreline. But mn comes in a distant second if we count lakes and rivers for shoreline.

I had a friend spend some time there, and she said she met some of the nicest people she has met in her travels. The way you humbly thanked Sonny for going to your state fair is another sign of being a down to earth and kind person. We often forget to praise or inform on something positive and we voice all the things that we don't like so when I see something or someone positive I like to let them know. So that was a bit of a long way of saying you and your fellow Minnesota people are down to earth, kind, caring and humble. 😊❤

Curing meat in sodium bicarbonate also known as Corning gives it that, ham flavor once smoked. You can do it with vineson and it is phenomenal. They do that with the turkey legs so that they stay longer. Poultry will go bad quickly if you don’t keep it frozen and if it is frozen it is hard to sell hundreds of thousands of them in a week. I do it with wild game to keep it longer. Preservation secret that adds amazing flavor and when smoked, it’s even better. This is why a ham will keep for weeks in a fridge
