I'm a first time pool owner. This video is the first in a series of showing tips and tricks that I have learned from other KZfaqrs and DIYers along with some of my own personal know-how and skills. This is a Bestway (Coleman) above ground pool that is 20 feet by 48 inches tall, with an Intex 16 inch sand filter with salt water chlorination.

We had our pad built flat with a slight raise in the center so it would drain off and our pool is level all the way around. Plug off the other intake and your skimmer will work perfect. Just bleed the air out it works I promise. Use a Shepard hook to hold up your lines so they don’t pull on your liner.

The problem with a wooden ladder isn't so much that the structure will be lucky to survive two seasons as it is that wood in a pool has a tendency to seed molds and algae very quickly, no matter how closely you police the sanitation, pH and phosphate levels of your water chemistry.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you mean. However, after 2 seasons that hasn't been a problem. Further I built this because it was stronger...and MUCH cheaper than every "real" pool ladder out there. So even if it lasts only a few seasons, it's cheap/easy to rebuild (and much better quality).

Awesome video. Where did you get the mat for the ladder. Also, my intex pump is making a hissing noise with the gauge going up and down. not sure how to fix it.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 3 жыл бұрын
I got the mat at Home Depot and cut it to size. TrafficMaster Black 36 in. x 36 in. Rubber Anti-Fatigue Comfort Mat www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMaster-Black-36-in-x-36-in-Rubber-Anti-Fatigue-Comfort-Mat-KFTRM9191-1/206355967 SKU# 206355967 Regarding the pump...the hissing noise is likely air introduced into the line. That will cause the pressure to fluctuate. I fixed that by ensuring ALL connections are sealed/tight. I found that the biggest source of air getting into my line was when I used the cheap plastic Clamps by Intex. Check out my latest video and you'll see how I made it so I improved my system...and removed all air.

I have a new best way 20x48 pool that I will be setting up this weekend. This is my first experience with a pool. How many bags of salt did you used when you first set up your pool? I have the 3000 intex pump, 15000 saltwater system, vacuum and intex skimmer. Do I need to add anymore chemicals apart from the salt and how soon after adding salt can the pool be use? I learnt a lot from your videos.. good job.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 3 жыл бұрын
Glad the videos helped. The pool is about 8500 gallons (assuming you fill it up to about 4 inches below the rim). There are many quick tables to check to see how much salt is needed, but generally speaking, because you're starting with ZERO salt, you'll need to add about 215 lbs of salt (a little more than 5, 40-lb bags. Remember, saltwater systems simply create chlorine for you (instead of having to add chlorine). This means that other chemicals may be necessary to control things like pH, alkalinity, algae, etc. Usually after a couple hours, you can use your pool. The salt doesn't really hurt you at all. You just want your pump to essentially filter all the salty water before you swim. So the bigger your pump, the faster you can swim.

I am a first time pool owner too. I have the same pool but 18x48 and I have been watching your videos and I really appreciate all the ideas. You have helped me without knowing. So I have a question maybe you could help because since you have more experience and knowledge about these type of things. I bought a small water fountain at Amazon nothing fancy just a $24 sprinkle that supposed to be attached to the return but this water fountain is equipped with threads of 1.5” male & female, plus a 2.2” female adapter. Do you have any recommendations what plumbing parts I can use to adapt this to our type of return because when you screw off the cover of the return it just has a big hole where the water comes into the pool. I’m not so good in measuring so I really don’t know what size it is, I just know it has no female/male threads on that end. So in the reviews I saw some people saying they had to buy some plumbing parts to the return in order to attach this but they don’t specify. I already asked a question on that side to see if I get an answer. But since you have done so many updates to your pool I wanted to know if you can give me any suggestions. Thank you so much in advance for all your help.

I'm not exactly sure what is needed, but if it's anything like converting metric to standard (which is what happens when you want to add plumbing parts to these pools), check out what I did at 8:25 on this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/acWXaNtqsqnGhIE.html

Can find an answer to this anywhere. If I set my pump and chlorinator to run every night for a set amount of hours, but then on a Saturday morning I want to manually run the pump to use my vacuum, will I then have to set my pump again that night to get it back on schedule? Or will it somehow continue with the previous set scheduling?

2 years later , how is your pool holding up. Thinking about getting this one
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 2 жыл бұрын
I'll be doing another video soon. But in a nutshell...it didn't hold up after last season. However, it was my fault. My pump told me my salt levels were too low last year...so I added more salt. Turns out my pump was faulty, but the damage was done. Salty water + metal pool frame = rust. Too much rust, so I had to throw it away. That said, I bought the same exact pool for this year. Why? Because I couldn't beat the price, and I plan to do a few things differently this year to prevent the rust (like don't be a dummy and just keep adding salt to the water). Bottom line: for the price, you really can't beat this pool/system. There is nothing that even comes close.

Hi there. I have a Bestway 12’ (39” deep) round pool installed. I converted to an Intex 26643EG sand filter 10”. It says it’s a .25hp motor. And, I also added a Hayward skimmer. I’d like to install a vacuum for it. The local pool company is not sure the motor is strong enough to install a manual vacuum using the current sand filter/skimmer. Can you help me out with some advice? Don’t want to spend on a hose/head/pole if it won’t work. But at the same time avoid a $300 manual handheld vacuum if it would work.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 3 жыл бұрын
That depends on the vacuum you want. The vacuum itself will tell you what size it needs (how much power). At the end of the day, it's not the size of your pool that matters when it comes to vacuums...it's the size of your pump. So...what vacuum are you considering?
@askninasteam
@askninasteam 3 жыл бұрын
@@getitdone308 Oh boy...lol...I didn't take pictures of what she was suggesting. It's just a basic pole with a hose and the vacuum head...like all in it was $90. I have an Intex 26643EG sand filter 10”. I don't need something that is done automatically for me, I can do it manually...so does it matter what the pump size is? All I need is for the hose to go in the strainer and then I can push the vaccuum around, but I guess it needs to suction... Sorry, I find this complicated and confusing. But, I really appreciate the response and help!
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 3 жыл бұрын
Remember, the filter size has nothing to do with this. The filter does not move the water...the PUMP does. There's 3 basic types of vacs. The easiest is the one you can get for less than $20 that hooks up to your garden hose. They're cheap...but work very well. Adds water to your pool and sucks everything into a bag. You have to push it around. The next is an auto cleaner that hooks up to your pool outlet (where the water goes INTO your pool). It requires a specific PUMP size because it has to move enough water. Each vac will tell you the pump size needed. The last is an auto vac that hooks up to your INLET (where the water sucks out of your pool). Same thing...needs a specific pump size. I have used all 3. I just bought a Pentair Kreepy Krauly Lil Shark and really like it. I'll be creating a video soon on it.

I'm the same way. Smooth with no fold is easier than it may seem. Just get no more than 2 inches of water in it and kick towards the edge until it's smooth. Then fill it up. My pool is only off by about an inch. It actually helped because, if you notice in my other video, I added an in-wall skimmer. It helped to put that skimmer on the "low water" end of the pool.
