Converting a Bestway Above Ground Pool to Intex 1.5 inch Hoses Using Type B Adapters

I have a Bestway Above Ground Pool that is 20 feet by 48 inches. It's great! We upgraded our filter to an Intex 16" sand filter with saltwater chlorination along with an Intex skimmer.
We quickly learned that the 1.25" stock hoses that came with the pool weren't providing efficient suction and were quickly introducing air into the filter system. Additionally, the Intex skimmer wouldn't function properly. We decided to use Intex Type B adapters, but couldn't find anyone who had done this...and showed HOW to do so. Many people showed that they used them and liked them, but I wasn't sure how to properly use them. Hence this video.
Please like and subscribe if you found this to be helpful! Thanks so much!

So I have the same pump and still have the two 1.25 inlets. The whole time I’m watching this I was like, “What is the point?” Then you flipped that valve off and that extra suction kicked in! My next pool project!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad I found your video. I too couldn't find how to do modifications. We are first time pool owners as well and have so much to learn. We just put up a 12' x 24' x 52" Intex a few days ago for my parents. I put a Hayward wall skimmer on it, but still haven't cut the liner because we are trying to make the adaptions. My dad is very handy, but this helped me understand what he was talking about. I was fearful about dealing with the outlet and trying to plug it up. Hopefully we will have it done tomorrow.

Great video man! After the 1st year with a 14’x48” Bestway pool, we definitely needed a skimmer. Then realized I had to up grade to a bigger filter. I didn’t want to cut any holes into the pool. I bought the wrong adapters. This video is really helpful. Thanks!
@PaleFace1974

Just add the on/off valves. No need for the adapters since you’ll still have 1 1/4 inch restriction at the inlets. He created more suction by turning off the valve without the skimmer!

The on/off valves need the adapters. They're 1.5. They won't fit on the 1.25 inlets.

The skimmer you have is the same as mine. It came with a stopper and I thought it was strange the stopper has a little hole in it, lol. I ended up using the stopper (with the hole) on one of the two inlets that is not connected to the skimmer. This provided more suction for the skimmer but still pulls a little bit of water in from beneath the water line. The setup allows me to clean the top of the pool water using the skimmer with strong suction and inside the depth of the pool but at a much slower rate. I plan on buying plunger valves because the stoppers are a pain in the butt to use just to clean my filter cartridge.

The unit heats up fast and is super quiet. It looks fancy kzfaq.infoUgkxl8Od2BvnGbn1ffwqsuFXW0QnmcZgMiVY and can be kept in the living room. It gets hot within a split second of turning on the unit. The build quality is exceptionally good and is safe to be around kids and pets. This one is super quiet and can be kept on while in office meetings, my wife loved it. It shows the temperature right on the unit which is very useful and adding a rotating feature helps to heat up the surrounding, so other people will not fight with you for heat. It is right as described in the description..!! Definitely recommend!!

I am from the UK and have a Bestway 16ft 48inch round pool. But to help warm the water i have painted the exterior walls black, this really helps absorb the suns rays as before the pool was light gray. I also have a black pool cover. And lastly, i have 600ft of poly pipe running from my pump around the yard, the water coming back out of the pipe is much warmer than the water in the pool. I understand painting the exterior of the pool black my look ugly, but it really makes a huge difference. Especially as im in the UK and we dont have long summers.

Hi I too am so glad I found your video , sure did answer questions what I should do and how to do it. But I have one thing my pool has 3 outlets two that suck in water and one that returns but the upgrade pump will only have to hoses so I think I am going to just plug up one of the incoming to the pump with the black cap and keep the cove screwed on and see what happens this season. If there is a problem I will get another hose and a tee but I will keep my fingers crossed. Kinda mad that they would sell that size filter for the bigger pool, I had nothing but problems keeping the algae out the pump could not handle it ad it going 24/7. Again thanks for your video

I cannot figure out why the 2 round inlet(? ) Circle parts do not suck anything from the pool. No debris, no water...no suction at all. The only filtering i get is thru the skimmer attached to the side of the pool...its clean. But never could get the little circle, net looking inlets to work. They are hooked up correctly. I cant find any videos for this:/.

Interesting solution to the upgrade. Have same pool and planning to do upgrade as soon as the new sand filter comes in. Question i have relates to the output or jet on the other end which is a straight 1.5 from pump to pool as is, unlike the 1.25 tubes that came original on the pool. given the pool is already filled in my case ( and yours) did you swap out the Intex "aeration" inlet or did you keep it stock. I cannot for the life of me figure if you can screw it off while pool is full or if it makes difference in water output.
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 4 жыл бұрын
I did swap it out while full. I bit the bullet and just went for it. Fortunately, it was VERY easy and quick. I'd say for no more than 60 seconds water was coming out. Just have everything ready and you should be fine. The water pressure from everything coming out was minimal.

I have Intex 15ft that comes with 1/4 fittings and I bought the adapters to fit 1/2 in (should be here today) but re: the Eyeball inlet do you need an adapter for that as well (to connect the inlet from inside the pool) ? since pump eyeball inlet comes in a 1/2 in. If an adapter is used (inside the pool) the inlet will not be flush against liner. Hope I make sense.

I didn’t use those small outlet ports, instead I installed a through wall skimmer. Keeps the pool cleaner and provides better flow to the pump. I also have a very nice water fall my girl friend and I built out of PVC that’s about 4 ft above the pool so the increased flow using the through wall skimmer makes it really flow good. @getitdone308
@getitdone308 11 ай бұрын
There's a couple reasons and things to co sidereal before doing that. The forst is dependent on your pump. If you have a weaker pump, you'll need both inlets to provide water. Also, in the event you don't want to run the skimmer (which the manufacturer tells you to do when the pool is in use), then having both inlets running is optimal. To your point though, I ultimately made the leap to an exterior skimmer that fixed the problem outright.

With that size pool, you probably only need the smaller one. That said, there shouldn't be any harm to get the bigger one. It just filters more water per hour (no harm in that). For the housing you are talking about at 11 minutes. What if the pool you have doesn't have the strainer, there are just 2 nipples coming out of the side for the inlets into the filter. Can I still use this method or will I need some type of housing piece to go inside the nipples for the hose clamp to clamp on to?
@getitdone308
@getitdone308 3 жыл бұрын
If you're saying the pool just sucks straight out the nipple, yes, you can just clamp the adapter to the nipple. If you check out my latest video, you see that I did just that. That said, the skimmer has a blue adapter that connects the suction hose to the pool. That blue adapter needs to screw onto the grey housing (that you don't have). So if you're going to use the skimmer, you should purchase an inlet to screw into.
