I was able to develop the skill to be interrupted and come back. I learned to make quick notes in the doc or in my phone. When I come back, I can usually pick up thanks to those notes. However, some days are more challenging than others. I definitely understand the procrastination/fear of being interrupted. Still gets me at times!

@@BethanyAtazadeh It took a while, but with baby there isn't much choice, lol. It definitely got easier as my daughter has gotten older. Now with baby two otw, praying it sticks 😅

Congrats on finishing the draft!!! Learning how to write in smaller time chunks is definitely a valuable skill as a writer/parent. I used to do a lot of ten-minute writing sprints, or like, write while I cooked dinner as the kids would leave me be during that time. You're doing so well!

Interruptions are 100% momlife. My best advice to help you deal with not losing important thoughts is a notepad. I do my best to write down as many details that will remind me before I go help my boys. Of course, there will be emergency situations(once they are walking/climbing) where you won't have the chance to scratch down your thoughts and those times can be pretty frustrating. Unfortunately you just have to let it be and focus on your babies. As mothers we tend to sacrifice alot for our little ones but they are so worth it.

@@BethanyAtazadeh I find just a couple words like "so and so's weapon does something fancy here or character a has a breakdown..." is all I really need to remember what I was doing. You'll find you get scary good at shorthand notes lol

Woohoo! You did it! Great job! Writing a completed first draft in 25 hours (or so) is amazing! I signed my kids up for the Camp Nano Young Writers Program and it's been fun watching their drafting muscles grow as the month progresses. Hannah wrote 160 words in twenty minutes yesterday, and she'd only been getting about 80 in the same time period.

Is it just me, or did anybody else not realize the use of the Comments section in Word? I saw when you were showing your zoomed out draft it seemed like the Comments on the sidebar were like notes to yourself, I'm assuming, that's an interesting idea. I mean I use a notebook, but sometimes I worry about losing it, lol

Definitely relate on the drafting muscle; I think I'm finally catching up as well after several slow months with an incoming move (so closed to finishing packing and market date...) your videos have been very encouraging ^_^ Wish I could catch the sale, but with move, idk if I'll be able to get them before we're out of here :/ ah well.

Every book is different, never compare! I have taken four months to write a book but I've also taken nearly ten years to write one. The best thing you can do is keep showing up consistently, and you'll have a finished book sooner than you think!

Well done! Such a achievement with a new baby! I read my one and only Jane Austen after my baby was born - it took three months but I was determined to do it. I really need to develop my writing muscle. I got to 50k with Nanowrimo and I've tried to pick up 'part 2' during Camp Nano, although my goal is only 20k. I'm on 6.5k at the mo but I'm struggling to find the time with the day job.

idk about mom life, but farm life definitely interrupts when i'm in the midst of a scene XD I have alarms set to remind me of the time and what needs to get done through the day. Had to learn to trick my brain into mulling over what i'd just written, what led to it, and where it's going to stay somewhat in the zone and decide if it's actually a good scene / makes sense

wow, you write 1300 per day? I manage to write like the first part during the day 1300 and then at night I write the other 1000, so per day you can say I write 2000 words, my book is going to be 116,000 words count so, I am intending for my book to be ready for my editor in August/okt, I am almost at the mid half of the book, I have a long road to go, but I am confident that I can finish it before augst/okt

The whole counting how many words you get in such in such amount of time reminds me a lot of calorie counting, which i really dont like. Kind of makes me not want to write because it seems most authors on YT focus on this.

Same. I don't do writing sprints, either. That interrupts my writing flow and gives me unnecessary stress. (I'm a pantser.) Instead, I sometimes use a mini stopwatch when I write to keep track of the total amount of time I write on that day and keep track of the number of pages I write on that day with the Page Count that is in my writing software. This approach is practical and well-suited for my writing approach. I take breaks when my mind naturally stops being in flow, which is different every time. 😛

I think people need to do what works for them and not judge any other writers if they have different methods. A HUGE portion of the writing community does word count, not because of youtube, but because of NaNoWriMo (check it out if you haven't heard of it, millions of writers have participated). Just to be clear, I've never told anyone they have to do this, but I'm also not going to apologize for it because the method really helps me.

@@BethanyAtazadeh That's valid. I believe the OP was saying that methods other than writing sprints aren't seen in the writing community on KZfaq so it appears that if a writer isn't finding writing sprints beneficial, it's like that writer isn't as good at getting "decent" word counts? (I felt like that before I found my current approach.) Maybe it's a Pantser thing. It looks like there are more Plotter KZfaqrs than Pantser KZfaqrs so the advice on KZfaq is very Plotter-centric. And so I struggled with Plotter advice for a very long time. 😭 But I still enjoy your videos, Bethany! 💖
