Thanks for these videos. Not only is the content very good, but it's inspiring to see how passionate you are about your craft to the point where you are staying up late at night thinking about these topics, then taking the time and effort to produce these. As a Product Leader, It inspires me also to do more things like this.

Found the video super helpful. I have a question though, I find that most of my one on ones consist of me going over my backlog with my boss. Do you think that the one on one is a good space for said activity, or would you suggest doing so in a different space?

It is very easy and comfortable to fall back into discussing actual tasks and progress of technical work. While it is a useful discussion to have I don't think a one-on-one is the best place for that. It is much more useful if those discussions are held in standups, progress meetings, during sprint planning or retrospectives after a sprint period for example (a little bit depending on what methodology you chose to follow). Keep the one-on-one focused on personal growth, career, goals, coaching, building rapport and trust, generl feedback both from and to the manager, how a person "feel" about things and work in general, work-life balance, getting to know eachother on whatever level feels right, relationship issues with others, growing conflicts that might need some guidance. The progress if anything should be focused on how you're moving towards the goals you've setup together, do you need help with something, should the goals be adjusted and why.
