This simple & cheap modification, will make cumbersome ratchet straps, into a device that will become your new favorite way to secure things. Plus a sweet launch from "the chute" at Sand City, California. USA.

The fine folks in China have figured it out. It's called an Endless Loop Ratchet Strap. HD has them in 16' lengths. I have several of them and they work great.

I'll keep that in mind next time I need more. BTW have you ever seen Tim McAmis' post here on KZfaq entitled "Tim's China Rant"? He echoes my sentiments. My problem isn't that there is a cheap alternative, it's that the manufactures that took production ideas off shore in the 1980s and 90s, also encouraged the production of similar products that flood the consumer market. Consequently? There are 94 choices of ratchet straps and they ALL suck. The German ones that I was able to salvage from the Stemme S12-G shipment, have straps that are about 20mm wide and at least three times the thickness of their asian made counterparts. likely a 1200 pound or half a metric ton rating. The ratcheting device is much more robust too, maybe .068" steel. It also has fine step ratchet action vs. the clunky 8 or 10 steps on the junk ones I've modified here. I'd love to be able to purchase better ones, but the market is flooded with garbage.
