6:11 Just my 2cents and meant as a friendly advise. Kiting your wing, using both index fingers on the brake line above the pulleys, may seem fair play. But when preparing a powered flight it is essential to have the brake handles on the wrists or hands after you have made dead sure that the brake lines have not looped around the webbing that connects the pulley to the rear riser. The thing is, when you bring up the glider, then rotate 180 towards the wind, a loose (as in: not held by hand) brake toggle may hop unseen over the webbing. Enjoy your ppg-adventures! Best, Rob ^^

You know this video is 7 years old and that wing has long since been retired because it was almost worn out?

Nice Star wars style graphics. This is a pretty cool place to fly, little community airstrip? Do you live there?
@YankeeinSC17 күн бұрын
@@NelsonsWings I built a hangar here back in 2001, when there were only 4 or 5 homes. for many years, the residents, who continued to grow in numbers as the place was developed, lobbied for us to move down there. I'm fortunate enough to have a house on a lake less than 2 miles away. Back when I was flying for a living, they just couldn't seem to understand that I spent half of my life at the airport. I certainly didn't wanna live on one. Additionally the only community amenity is the runway, no clubhouse, no swimming pool, no other fun features and enough contentiousness for 15 neighborhoods. There is a saying that more or less goes "every residential airpark community, is only two funerals away from being perfect...". Had I ever moved there, I certainly would not have added a stabilizing effect to the community, as my disdain for the pretentiousness of the average general aviation pilot, has grown exponentially since I started flying PPG. Nonetheless I've got many friends there and there are a few really good solid citizens.

This ones simple imho. Flimsy frame that couldn't take a power foward. When your frame has a weak hoop, you gotta wait till the wing is 45deg or better above you before adding power. Seems you wasn't centered just perfect, inline with wind etc and the wing came up a little off center also, it just applied more force then the hoop had tolerance for and the prop smack your net.

@Yankee Paramotor you nailed this. My Vac valve failed on my 2000 F350 7.3. Some additional info - This valve is responsible for controlling factory style auto engage 4x4 hubs and the AC vent system. If you have converted the factory hubs to a manual-only style like Mile Marker or Warn lockouts, you do not need this valve to engage your 4x4. When this valve fails, unplug the vacuum connector on the solenoid valve with 2 ports and plug both ports with an appropriate sized bolt. The red vac line is the one responsible for switching the HVAC vents. With this plugged, you will no longer have a vac leak and your AC/Heat vents should now switch.

Posture needs a little work. Arms out, no power until A's released... Holding those risers near the body with elbows bent, places even MORE pressure on the cage, than a decent inflation would.
@YankeeinSC110 күн бұрын
that seems to be the consensus. thanks for your feedback!

It appears that too much power was applied too early. Now, I don't know if this is what caused this, but that's too much application of power too early.
@imjoehall11 күн бұрын
Add power only after glider has cleared the power band (45 degrees) - power was applied a tad early - lines hit (and flexed) the cage - which broke your prop tips - split second timing... : (

Aughh! Head scratcher. I would suspect it’s the power forward pulling lines low and snagging on connection pointes… or something similar. Next time you got it!

Yikes brother. Glad the shrapnel didn't get ya. Cage flex perhaps. Stopped on a particular frame in the vid and the hoop looks a lil off. Could be the GoPro lens though. 🤷♂

nah... just big and loopy. It's a 3 line free flight glider. Pretty hard to mess it up.
@Flyswamper11 күн бұрын
I feel your frustration! I wonder if the problem didn't start with the snap-on connector that helps hold the cage sections together came loose first and got propelled into the net after striking the prop. Would be interesting to see how much clearance you have if one side of it isn't attached and it rotates back towards the prop. Perhaps that situation with a "normal" amount of cage flex due to the line tension could have caused a prop-connector impact? Just a thought.... A little thicker prop-spacer might be a preventative measure if that was the problem (in addition to making sure the connector is solidly secured of course).

@@YankeeinSC1 My 2000 Super Duty has the 5.4 V8 but no vacuum pump that I can find or hear running. Seems like the vacuum is getting pulled by the intake manifold? I can get the AC blowing out the vents if I jiggle the vacuum lines and power/grounds but it quits working after a few minutes.

I'm having an issue with mine too, newly installed replaced one that started leaking. The new one is piped I have water through my hot lines so my solder job was fine, I checked the elements, both good. I triple checked the wiring, and I can find nothing. It keeps tripping the breaker. I'll turn it on and about 1 minute later it trips... any ideas?
@YankeeinSC1Ай бұрын
Yes. ultimately found one of the factory installed wires was crimped under one of the thermostat installations (because I'd replaced those trying to find the problem). As things heated up the wire would get squeezed and short out tripping the breaker!!!! POOR Quality Control in post pandemic manufacturing.
Way to spot that small yard landing and run it out! Full commit and fast legs to stay on those landing gear! I suspect you had floatation device. 🎉 Super cool!

and lots of altitude! it's a big lake and still cold enough to be dangerous this time of year. I hardly ever fly over it because so many trees and virtually no outs for miles in any direction. if you had a motor out the best you could hope for would be crashing in the water next to somebody's dock, or next to a boat and ask them, or beg them for help

dude I can't tell you how beautiful our lake is this time of year! Not too crowded. Water temps are still cool enough that there's no algae or hydrilla growth... but it is very infrequently that I make the risk acceptance to spend much time flying over the water. Like I told someone else, the stars really had to align for this to work out. Correct wind direction, good enough winds for me to launch from my place and then of course congruity with poor Steve's schedule... because he's still working (flying) for a paycheck. This however may have convinced him to take up PPG.

I kept plenty of altitude until I knew there were people on boats in his cove in case of a motor out. That last tree on the left hand side needs to come down for this to be more usable. As it was, it took over a year and a half for the stars to align for this flight, with good weather, right wind direction, enough desire to try and poor Steve's grueling airline schedule.
