BETTER THAN LUBING AND FILMING SWITCHES? A Guide To Sprit Aftermarket Springs

Do you ever feel disappointed when you see a switch you really like, but then pass on it because the spring weight is too heavy or too light? Me too. Here's a solution: swap the springs! If you're already going to be taking the switch apart to lube and film, then you might as well swap the springs while you're at it. They're inexpensive ($13 per 100 springs from Sprit) and can really add more dimension to your switch. You could even take the same switch and just swap the springs and they will feel completely different.

Getting these slow spring's* absolutely changed my enjoyment of the hobby! I can finally tune any tactile switched to the bump feel that I want! It's more impactful than any lubing or filming or fancy materials in the switches imo. I have now tried from $.15-1.20 switches and beyond $.65 you are only paying for hype!

This is so helpful, without doing much research i figured slow springs and progressive were complete opposites, i like tactile feel but prefer the sound of linears, so was thinking of picking up progressives (thinking they were heavier on top and lighter near bottom out) this video was so enlightening

It's all preference. I've tried the Tecsee 2 stage springs and they feel great, especially with the snappy return/upstroke.

True! I’ve also had a little more time with Zakus now which come with two stage springs and I would agree that they def provide a snappier return stroke. I wonder if a triple stage spring would be even snappier. Haven’t tried that yet

I originally spring swapped my Gat Black Ink springs to TX 14mm (Short) 65g, but didn't like how easy it was to press down and accidentally input keys, so I swapped them again for TX 16mm (Long) 67g. Feels so much better with the return and it actually requires a little more force to actuate the key press! Highly recommend the long 16mm version. Obviously weight is subjective but I find 67g was a sweet spot for me on linear switches. I use the stock 62g Boba U4Ts (tactile switch) on my other keyboard and they feel fine.

What exactly do you mean by the bump in the Multistage springs? how does the travel feel in the first and second halves? Does it start light and weight ramps up quickly until halfway, and then it stops getting heavier?

I have Gateron black ink v2 which I like but it feels heavy to me. I also tried Akko CS Silver switch which is 45g and very comfortable for me. I tried to spring swap but the Black ink’s housing becomes wobbly. Not sure which spring I should try-any suggestions?

It does feel kinda odd how everyone in the community recommends lubing switches, but don't recommend spring swapping as much. I think it matters as much, maybe even more, especially to those that can't find their perfect switch.

YES agreed, I think swapping the springs can make a pretty big difference to any switch. Don’t like your alpacas? Just spend $10 and get some new springs and boom, new switch basically

Looking to swap out the 70g Black Ink springs and trying to decide between slow and supreme. This was a great video but I’m still undecided 😀

Do you feel like the 70g spring is too heavy at all or just perfect? If it feels just right, then I would maybe go for a 68g slow spring since they make the switch feel a little heavier. Or go a little lighter like 63.5 or 65g if you think 70g is too heavy. If you don’t want the bump in the middle of the spring, then try a diff weight Supreme spring!

I'm modding my first keyboard and haven't even recieved it yet and I'm fallen so deep as springs now... I've decided the slow extreme springs would probably be best for me due to my partialness towards my corsair k55 membrane feel I'm currently using temporarily. And now I just need to decide between TWENTY different variations of the spring. What a nightmare. Thanks for the detailed advice!! Very few videos on this subject. Also, I went with the Gateron Box Ink v2 - Blacks.

honestly it can be hard to tell the difference when it comes to small variations of a spring...like the difference between a slow extreme I and II is pretty minimal. Good thing it's cheap to get a set of springs and try them out!

Those should be the Slow Extreme III, although I don't know if they are as snappy as 22mm springs from other brands. These should be the snappiest as they maintain a very similar force throughout all the travel, while normal springs start very light and become heavier and heavier as you press them, so they can lose force on the return when they go from heavy to light while they have to carry the stem and keycap. Let's say: A normal 14mm 60g spring starts at 30g and bottoms out at 60g A long 22mm 60 spring starts at 55g and bottoms out at 60g The real weightings change by brand and switch where you install them, but it's something like that. And I think you should buy 22mm from another brand instead of Long Extreme III just in case, to really feel the difference, as SPRiT springs might not be long enough.

Biggest difference with supreme is that they don't crunch or ping after you lube them.

Skip everything but the extremes. I bought ALL types when divinikey went under! Sprit extreme 3 and 5 in 65g are perfect for 67g replacement. 63.5 extreme 3 are best for getting that multi-stage linear snapback that's all the rage. I have tried every other manufacturer and the only one to come close to these are the kinetic labs and the kos turbo you can swap between progressive and slow depending on which side you put down!

I bought 2 stages for mx blacks because normal sprigs were causing a ticking noise, the order hasn’t arrived yet but i hope it fixes the tick issue. Bought these according to someone who has these mx blacks with the same ticking noise as mine
