Rhianna had a huge hit with this song and here, Angelina performs it on the spur of the moment at her home with her friend Ivan playing guitar for her. He wasn't fully versed in the song and is seen following her lead as best as he can. Angelina has to arrange the song as she reads lyrics off a tablet at her side since she wasn't fully versed in the song either. The result is a rendition that brings forth more emotion laden penetration than Rhianna. Simply a mind boggling performance.

Absolutely the truth...so many people feel to realize that she is reading the lyrics as she sings this song and so so so many others she has done and simply creates a version that is so much better than the originals without even knowing the song...now that's talent at the highest level in my opinion. All these home videos like this with guitarist, Ivan Mendez, are when she was 12 yo & they are exactly as you predicted. In an interview, Ivan said they would decide on a song to record, then they would spend a few minutes going over the chord changes & Angelina would get the lyrics on her i-pad. She would decide on the tempo & tell him just follow me. The only times they ever needed a 2nd take was if he messed up because he said she never did. I think this on-the-fly cover of Stay is better than the original.

Whenever you see this guitarist, he only accompanied her the summer of her 12th year. They play beautiful music together, usually in one take according to him. Did you notice that she is still reading the lyrics? Who can do that and still put all the emotion into the words? Angelina, that’s who!

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZfaq channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell ( I mean in summary, I can't give an interview of almost 40 minutes in two sentences, please listen to Ivan Mendez yourself. ) "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody " OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣

"Oslo" age 11 "Shield" age 12 "Million Miles" age 14 we know she wrote this one in the days after her maternal grandfather passed in 2019 when she was 13 "7th Heaven" age 15 "Love Don't Let Me Go" age 17 "Now I'm the Fool" age 17 "Fire and Rain" age 17 "It's All My Fault" age 17 "Good in Goodbyes" age 17 "Diamond" age 17 "Our Time" age 17 "Princess of Ruins" age 18 ..... only performed at her 2 shows in Las Vegas 2/29/24 "Bad Valentine" age 18 worked with Toby Gad Should include songs for which she was the first to sing "I'm Still Holding Out for You" age 10 .... considered one of her best vocal performances by many "Song for A" age 12 "Above the Water" a EDM song released January 31, 2020 "We're the Best" sung with RedOne at the FIFA Awards February 27, 2023 Angelina wrote new lyrics for two famous songs by Amy Winehouse, "Back to Black" and "Rehab" since it was inappropriate for a preteen to sing the original lyrics. For "Back to Black" Angelina wrote the new lyrics in the 24 hours prior to the recording, then needed just two takes.

It's all about love. She relates to the message of love in the song which she can relate to. The love. The particular story will vary and of course she hasn't lived any of the situations brought forth in a song BUT she feels the love and expresses it with her voice and we believe everything she is singing. No one like her. only Angelina...

I don’t understand when people criticize her for doing covers. What artist hasn’t started with covers? I think they forget that her career started when she was a little girl and she is still very young. Who was doing original material at 8? Doing covers and studying other artists is music education. I think Angelina has no intention of being just a cover artist. Songwriting and presenting her own music is very important to her. She says she has written over 100 songs and she was 11 when she recorded her first two originals. Her lyrics and song ideas come from her journals which she says she writes in everyday and has since she was a little girl. I think the criticism is unfair. Linda Ronstadt made a career out of cover songs. Elvis never wrote any of his sings. He did either covers or songs others wrote for him. If these critics really knew anything about Angelina they would know there is so much more to her than covers.

One of the few songs that cannot be reacted to with justice. You need to listen to it with no one watching you. There is such a youthful, innocent, pure, gorgeous quality to her voice that automatically stirs up angelic qualities. You cannot see and hear all of that with concerns about what others are seeing in your reaction.

Angelina and Ivan Mendez her guitarist in L.A. at the age of 12. These were jam sessions that they would do in the evening. Angelina would pick a song and Ivan would practice the cords then Angelina would say follow me. What is amazing is she is reading the lyrics and just kills this song! An amazing young lady and a consummate professional! These were one take and done!

If you want to hear her now, here is a video of a live performance from May where a new original is introduced called Bad Valentine which will be officially released later this summer. Great reaction and when her manager, Uncle Mike is ready, he will unleash Angelina to the World! His number one priority is to protect her at all costs from the Wolves in the Music Industry. She is signed with the same label as Taylor Swift and I'm sure she is aware her days as the raining performer are soon to be at an end. She has written over a hundred songs, 17 on You Tube and 15 Officially released. 2 of her last, one performed in her Vegas Concert, "Princess of Ruins", about why she sings barefoot and just recently covered her newest song co-written with Toby Gad, "Bad Valentine", have not been Officially released. Thank you guys for a great reaction , you were pretty spot on, yes one take Angelina she doesn't know all the lyrics either on these impromptu performances you see her looking to her left still she is amazing, having every sound of her voice audible is something important to her and the uniqueness of what she does vocally and her breathe is a part of it , her live with minimal accompaniment performances are the best ever period. and the depth of feeling is an innate thing with her which evolves as well, but she becomes the song she always has from a tot , and now at 18 yrs old she is in a league of her own. The world doesn't know how fortunate they are yet but she is on the verge of breaking out . 💜💜💜👣😇💜💜💜

STAY As usual, AJ at 12 years of age makes every cover her own, and much better than the original.. Do you think that Rihanna saw this performance and that was one of the reasons Stargate Production signed Angelina Jordan? Stargate Production Co. (Beyonce, Rihanna, Sam Smith) Can you imagine sitting next to the genius of Angelina and hearing those hypnotic, heavenly sounds coming out of this lovely child. No one on earth has this ability, she is in a lane of her own. You pretty much nailed it about this recording. It’s just a home recording of which she did a lot of at ages 11 theough 12. No studio clean up, no post production, usually just one take, no producer or engineer, just a raw recording.

We Do not know that for certain and some people believe based on what they're hearing is that it did get some balancing, or reverb (most probably) Or other treatments post recording from the phone., Is on a laptop program. There is no guarantee of this being a Live-Live as you purport. Other than that it is a raw sound. I think someone also mentioned that You can alter the microphone to add production during the recording, such as reverb, And such...

You are absolutely right about the process. Ivan Mendez, the guitarist, would come over, maybe have dinner with the family, then Angelina would maybe suggest a song, and he might not even know it. They would play with it for a while and do a take like this. Notice that she is reading the lyrics from her iPad on her lower left. Who else can do this? Angelina and her family moved to L.A. when she was 12-1/2 for her career. Ivan accompanied her for about a year.

Thanks guys for doing this one...one of the many favorites from the Angels. Can I just say, probably biased but have really good ears regardless. Rihanna is a very good "singer" for sure...right here at this age of 13 years old we are witnessing a master vocalist...not a singer, just the way it is. This "cover" is outstanding with just a guitar and vocals while reading the lyrics for a one take performance...no production, mixing, auto tune, just straight up raw vocals....seems to be lost on a lot of folks in many reactions I have seen. It is strange that someone says that she only does covers in her preteen years. At this age ( 12 ) she had 3 originals on You Tube. I dont think many 12 yo had that.

To all nice and supportive, but some impatient fans! There is a limit to what an 18-year-old artist can achieve with work... It is understandable that the a few fans is impatient, but she is only 18 for God's sake! She is so skilled that she can actually almost set the pace herself. Within the music industry, all important people know who she is, and I can promise you she is a big name within the industry. She has performed at major events. She has perfomed for 40,000 with Norha Jones only 10 years old, Las Vegas, London, Germany, Brazil, and Nobel Peace Prize (to times), several original releases, and the list is long... Many people know who Norha Jones is, but do you know that including cover channel Angelina has approx. 550,000 more subscriptions. I repeat: Angelina is 18 years old, so maybe a little more patience. guys. Don't just think uncritically as fans about what we want at an inhuman rocket speed! She is only 18 years old!

To the criticism of doing a lot of covers ,one of the greatest , Elvis Presley did all covers . of other peoples songs. Even the one he is most noted for ' You aint nothing but a Hound Dog' was a cover of originally sang by Wille May Thornton in 1953 three years before Elvis did his cover of it. It was wrote by Mike Stoller and Jerry Lieber in the early 1950's.

🥰. Geez I make use of little things, a little slip in the lyrics, what which of us is caving. Her pulling us out of the trance to look over at the lyrics. Little human moments, so necessary, a reminder throughout that this is a 12 year old singing for real. So unbelievable I adore and need those human moments throughout or I'd struggle to appreciate and remember what I'm watching, as if it isn't even real. 😐

Thanks for a great reaction! So much emotion for someone so young, mind blowing! The latest thing she's done is collaborate with Toby Gad, famous songwriter for Beyonce, John Legend, Fergie, etc. They recorded a new version of "If I Were A Boy". They're also co-writing songs, one of which they premiered at The Hotel Cafe in May. Believe me you'll fall off your chairs, it is THAT GOOD! I think this song will be Angelina's ticket to stardom. AJ is 12 here, and this is one of her first performances with Ivan Mendez on guitar, and the wonderful Neumann mic she had just received for her 12th Bday. I've listened to the original several times, and for me, Angelina's is better. She recorded this and two other great performances in April/May of 2018. If you examine the stable of stars at Republic Records, in addition to Miss Jordan, there are artists such as Taylor Swift, and even, sadly, the estate interests of Amy Winehouse, often associated with a number of Miss Jordan's performances. I often think AJ doesn't cover TS because of the 'corporate coincidence'.

Apprix 13 year old for a long time this was one of my top 5 Angelina cover songs. However shes done so many now and it dropped down. Check out her Lana Del Reys BORN TO DIE and Mileys NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART all roughly the same age and if you watch these in close proximity it show cases her virtuosity.

Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. The man that she was in love with had just broken up with her. She did this song in Vegas so I think you would find it quite interesting to do as it is quite different. I would go back and listen to this one and then do the Vegas one. Also if you want to hear her current Adel there is a fabulous version she did in Vegas of "When We Were Young".
