Tired of traffic getting caught in left turns at roundabouts and junctions? Well tire no more! Superstreets, also known as "Restricted Crossing U-turn (RCUT)" and Michigan Left Turns, also known as "Median U-Turn" are alternative intersections that can be used in Cities: Skylines to reduce traffic and make your boulevards look beautiful.
This video is a build tutorial on how to create and use these two intersections and compares them to roundabout-type junctions in the same area of a city to show how they can be used to improve or change your traffic while also making your city look beautiful!
Superstreets and Michigan-left turns prevent cars from turning left across traffic and reduce conflicts to ensure that traffic continues to move smoothly in your city!

In my hometown “Jeddah” we use overpass and underpass for going straight, dedicated right turn on ground level and 2 step traffic light for turning left and a U-turn before the traffic light. It’s effective and doesn’t take a lot of space but the downside of this idea is that it is expensive and requires to close the street for a lot of time. If you are interested there is a cities skyline mod called Vanilla overpass project.

It is most effective on arterial roads.

That's a really cool intersection! Thank you for pointing it out to me. I looks like a modified Single-Point Urban Interchange, but I bet it works really well on arterials that are set up in the same way as my roads on this video. I'll definitely be adding this to my "to-do" list for cities with these roads.

Glad you like it. It's another really good tool in the toolbox instead of always relying on the same types on intersections and can be fun!

@@ChipNRat i like thinking outside the box. You heard of a zipper exit? Search that on the workshop. I made a super simple compact exit. Throw a 2lane 2way road in the middle of your freeway and an overpass to connect. Not a high volume exit but good for a small area or trucks only slip lane. If you use the roundabout exit type it works super well as this only has 4 points of connection instead of 6. Also makes your freeway traffic exit/enter on the left side.

They're honestly fantastic in certain situations and I love them because they're so different than the usual intersections. And so easy to decorate!

What I would like to see is a system interchange that is diamond shaped and has bidirectional ramps. Start with the north-south and east-west highways forming a + with one highway bridging over the other. Now put in bidirectional roads in the four quadrants it makes. In the northwest and southeast quadrants it would go like this: / In the other 2 quadrants it would go like this: \. Now connect each end of the diagonal bidirectional ramps to the highways with one way ramps with the off ramps coming before on ramps in the direction of traffic flow. Using right side traffic, this would result in an interchange where the northwest quadrant ramp carries traffic between southbound and westbound either way. Northeast quadrant would be between northbound and westbound either way. Southwest quadrant would be between southbound and eastbound either way. And southeast would be between northbound and eastbound either way. Reversing traffic flow to U.K. style means the northern quadrants would connect to eastbound; The southern quadrants would connect to westbound; the western quadrants would connect to northbound and the eastern quadrants would connect to southbound. Hopefully you understand what I am saying.

I think I get what you're going for, but I want to make sure because I drew it out and it looks like a bit of a modified cloverleaf interchange, just using bi-directional roads instead of single ramps for the exchanges. I bet it would look really cool though!

@@ChipNRat Basically, take a cloverleaf with right turn slip lanes arranged like a diamond. Now picture the inner cloverleafs being balloon-like; as you inflate the balloons the on/off ramps push further from the intersection and the segment between them is pressed against the containing slip lanes. So the curved section of the cloverleaf becomes straight. Then replace the parallel straight one way ramps with a bidirectional section of road.

I'll mess around with this but it's an interesting idea. I like to mess with bi-directional highway ramps so this should be fun!

Some of them are from the Mass Transit DLC, and others are from the network extensions 2 mod.

PS4 is so dumb that we either get 2 way one way or 6 lanes. And no lane control whatsoever. It’s more about making a good system with basically the basic game

Yeah, the principle is a bit more difficult to do properly on console but even then it can be done, just not nearly as well.

Yeah sadly a lot of alternative intersections only work well with a few mods. You could probably try this one without the timed traffic lights and lane directions and it might work okay, but I kinda doubt it. I am trying to find other ways to incorporate this into more vanilla intersections but I haven't found a good workaround yet.
