I also did q grub treatment of Acelepryn amd also Berenthin for bug control and Cleary's 3336F Fungicide.They all mixed together pretty well. I also mixed in some Greene County Micronutrients too. Love and appreciate all of your videos, thank you! I wish you were in South Florida. So I have fairly mature crabgrass throughout the lawn of the house we just moved into. It’s mid-June now and I have a dethatcher. For the bad areas, would dethatching and bagging, followed by laying a layer of command and throwing new sod on solver the problem enough. I’m in Ft Lauderdale so we don’t get as cold as you in Jax in the winter so I’m not sure even waiting until then to attack the crabgrass is much better. @@doctor41baller I try and answer all lawn related questions to help!! I did some research and it seems the best type of grass that grows by seed in your area is Bermuda. With such a big lawn and without costing a fortune seeding will be the way to go. I highly recommend getting a product with 2-4D in it. Make sure to read the label and all instructions on how to apply. Apply in an area of 5k sgft or less. Give the weeds a week and half to two weeks die. Then go over with Bermuda seed. This process will need to be repeated. I Recommend doing a 5k area because with such a large lawn it can be overwhelming. Also if anhthing goes wrong then you only made a mistake on a portion of the lawn. Also you can test just that area to make sure you get the results you want. If so you can repeat over the whole lawn. This will save a lot of time and money if it does not work as intended. Also please be patient. This stuff takes time and more is not better. Doing the right thing at the right times will always achieve the best result. It will take some and several applications but if you rense and repeat this process and stay consistent it will work ans cost next to nothing compared to the price of sodding the lawn. It will just take time. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Take pictures and document the results.

@@bettercallchadd well thanks for the tips. I've seen one few person seed Bermuda during our winters. Which looked awesome. Although they were the only ones mowing lol. I've never thought of trying Bermuda year around. I was always under the assumption the San augustine would take over and kill it. But I guess spraying the whole lawn and then seeding with Bermuda would stop that. Thats deinetly intimidating killing my whole lawn haha. And ill have to research a little on maintence of Bermuda and how often I would have to seed or will it die etc....I definetly love the Bermuda look, just didn't think it would grow here. I never see anyone with it....

@@doctor41baller its not common to use it on our warm climates. I have several customers I recommend the same for their backyard because it was all weeds and they did not want to resod. Its not the best grass for the area which us why you don't see it much. Unfortunately for us its only the grass that looks decent and will actually grow by seed. Just try little areas at a time till you comfortable to do more. It's not the nest choice but it's the only shot of getting your lawn one type of grass without spending 1,000s on sod.

Hey Bud, good video, but I think you may be mistaken. There are several post emergent herbicides that will kill crabgrass in St Aug. Celsius is one that comes to mind and it has no heat restrictions. It was hard to tell in your video, but I think what you showed may be carpetgrass or signalgrass - of which Celsius will not kill those, and there is no post emergent for them. Hope that helps! Keep up the good content.

Thanks so so much for the comment. From what we found it is that we have a lot of tropical crabgrass. Thats what we thought this was. Its very common in Jacksonville and isn't on any labels that control crabgrass. After testing several herbicides we cannot get any full control in the summer without burning the St.augustine. When using Celsius carpet grass is on the label for control. When we tested it didn't get control at the recommend rate without burning the st.augustine. thats why we ruled that it seems to be tropical crabgrass. How familiar are you with the different types of crabgrass? They are extremely hard to tell apart and from all herbicide testing we figured it to be tropical crabgrass. Let me know your thoughts. Always willing to learn more. Also we are a huge fan!! You are a big inspiration for our channel. Any customers looking for more detailed and in depth vidoes we always send them your way. Finally, this video shows a process to help me deal with my current crabgrass problem. Baking soda and bagging my grass when mowing. I haven't bagged and I guess that's why it keeps popping up all around my house. I've been spreading the seed pods? Missed the "pre-emergents" applications at the beginning of the season. Tried pulling it, but it just left bare spots. I guess I will have to add some sod to these affected areas this winter. When is the best time? Anytime Dec? Just lay it on top of the old bare spots? Am I just covering up the old dead crabgrass and seeds, and will it come back? Is there any prep process you recommend prior to adding the replacement sod in winter?
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
Its hard to tell an exact time because it will be based off soil temperatures. What I recommend is when the crabgrass is fully browned out its time get rid of it. should be around December. Best prep is to tear out, till soil with shovel, add some black kow if its a full sun area, then lay new sod on top. The seeds should be too deep to grow and the new sod won't allow sunlight to reach the seeds. Keep turf healthy, after 3 months with the new sod you can apply pre emergent to it (as long as its thick and healthy) as another barrier of protection.

Always 4 inches or higher with St.augustine grass. I would not recommend mixing baking soda with fertilizer. Apply the baking soda separately and carefully. Then you can fertilize the lawn separately if you want. I hope this helps!!

Is it better to use baking soda than just pulling out the crab grass? Secondly, any time of a day, do you recommend to sprinkle baking soda over crab grass? Do you pull it out after the crab grass goes brown? What time of a day, do you recommend to start irrigation? And how many days a week? We are in central FL. Do you have a video about irrigation? Thank you! We love your videos!
@bettercallchadd

It would be better to pull so you can get the roots. The baling soda will burn it so it won't seed, but it might still come back. Just not spread. Water 2 to 3 days a week between 30 to 50 minutes per lawn zone.

Thank you for the videos and your knowledge. I appreciate that you are in our local area and concentrate on St Augustine. I would like to ask for verification of the use of pre emergent on St Augustine causing "thin" lawn. I thought St Augustine only grew from Stolons. Thank you
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely!! Thank you for the support. So pre emergent won't cause thinning in St.augustine but it will not allow thin areas to fill in. The way most pre emergents work is by putting a layer over the soil to prevent roots from penatrating the soil. So when the stolons grow the roots will not go into the soil and the stolon will start looping and usually die or get mowed. Hope this answered your question.

I have a St Augustine lawn that frequently comes under assault from crabgrass. Whenever I see an incursion, I take a scorched earth approach and hit the area with Roundup to kill everything down to the root. I try to be careful not to hit my St Augustine, but sometimes there is collateral damage. Is this a bad tactic?
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean!!! That's not the worst approach but I would recommend just digging it out replace the soil and sod over top especially if its a constant issue. The issue with round up is it can destroy the soil as well and not the let grass fill in. It will take some time but if you stay on top of it you will see a big improvement. Just make sure to keep the healthy parts of your lawn thick so it does not get into other parts of the lawn. I hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and support 👍

I'm in South Florida area. There is herbicide that can selectively kill weed (including crabgrass) and not harm St. Augustine. The product is "Blindside Herbicide". I believe you can only apply it twice a year otherwise it may harm/stress the lawn.
@bettercallchadd
@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
Blindside is a great winter herbicide but it does no control crabgrass. Per label on bottle, it will suppress (which means stress and slow growth but not kill) crabgrass. It only works on smooth and large crabgrass which is 2 out of 5 types of crabgrass we have here, also the most rare types you will see. Blindside cannot be applied on warm season turf which is St.augustine in temperatures above 70 degrees Fahrenheit or it will stress or kill the lawn. By that time crabgrass is dead anyways from the cooler nights. Because it is an annual. Per University Of Florida. " thier is no selective herbicide for St.augustine grass that will achieve full control of crabgrass. The labels will tell you everything you need to know about any product. If you are ever unsure you can type the name of the product into Google and add label at the end and you will find the full label. I know most are long and difficult to navigate but it tell you everything you need to know about the product. Hope this was helpful. Thank you for the comment and support.

St. Aug does well out here and generally grow a thick enough. Zoysia is another good option. Scott's ProVista hybrid St. Augustine is a great option for a new lawn and you can use glyphosate safely on it to kill any weeds. What I do is just hand pull weeds, being careful to get the root. Most the time in my yard weeds are practically eradicated, but when I see a few, I just pull 'em. It's kinda fun actually and it's a nice way to enjoy time outside.

@bettercallchadd 3 жыл бұрын
St.augustine is still your best option. You can go with Zoysia grass but it is higher maintenance turf grass. Eveything is up to your expectations, if you have huge areas you can do this to bring crabgrass down to a minimum then apply pre emergent twice a year and have great control. Or do all these steps to get it looking right then hire a professional to keep it that way.
