Join me on a profound journey as I uncover the raw and unfiltered truth about 'living the dream' in the world of trading and risk management. In this video, I dive deep into my personal experiences, discussing the idyllic fantasies many hold about a carefree life of luxury and contrasting them with the gritty realities of achieving and sustaining success.
As a seasoned trader with over 20 years of hard-fought experience, I share candid insights into the misconception that success is a stroke of luck akin to a lottery win. Instead, I argue that it is the product of persistent effort, strategic decisions at life's crossroads, and an unwavering commitment to one's goals.
From my modest beginnings, absent of privilege or a head start, to my present-day triumphs, I break down the journey into its true essence: a relentless pursuit, paved with setbacks and learning curves. I expose the myths peddled by those who sell success as an easy path, emphasizing the hard work and dedication that underpins genuine achievement.
I invite you to explore the guiding principles that have shepherded me towards my goals, the same principles you can apply to your own aspirations, whether in trading, investing, or any facet of your life. Discover the importance of passion, the value of risk-taking, and the reality that the fruits of labor-money and life choices-often become secondary to the work itself.
This isn't just about trading on Betfair or any market; it's about the universal truths of striving for excellence and the nuanced definition of what it truly means to 'live the dream.' Join me, as I reveal the 'big secret' to success and why, in the end, there's actually no secret at all.
Prepare to challenge your perceptions, redefine your goals, and embark on a path that, while devoid of shortcuts, is rich with reward. This is my story, my blueprint for success, and it could very well be yours too.
Remember, 'living the dream' isn't just about the destination-it's about the journey, and I'm here to guide you through every step.
Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more insights into the life of a trader who's made it a reality. Your path to success starts here.

I've came to realise that living the dream isn't all about having a big house, fast cars and sitting on a beach all year round but more so enjoying what you do for a living and having some sense of normality with a work life balance

"A lot of hard work"... I enjoyed this video and appreciate your advice, it's important to share these things. But I must say, for what it's worth, in practice I've found that it's the hard work and nothing but that'll get you through. Sure the guiding ideals and principles are a prerequisite (without which there's no hope) but I for one haven't found any real link between inspirational advice and actual results. Again this is just my experience, hope others' mileage varies!

That was an excellent video. Im sure there will be many who do not understand a word of it. Those that do & are quite smart will use your words wisely. I also think not everyone is smart enough to be successful & sadly i fall into that category. To add to your video is a song that i think is apt, or some words from a song. I get knocked down but i get back up again. I love your videos & your success is all down to hard work & perseverance. Maybe a bit of luck here & there but we all have that. & i know 100% you do your best to help guide others. Good luck Peter.

Great video! I have learned one thing so important in the last 2 years that your health is more important than living the dream. I have sunned myself in Barbados, hit the slopes in France and much more but when illness strikes it's a leveller! Now I am over the illness the dream is more enjoyable and I remember being ill sitting in the sun in my garden at the time was the same as being in Barbados.

Health, relationships and time. They are the three pillars to living the dream. Money is not. People don't want to be rich, they want to be richer than the people around them.

I've had an underlying health issue for a few years, but that still hasn't stopped me doing all those things I wanted to, including the travel & adventure sides of things. I have talked about this on another video. You can't determine your health unfortunately. You can keep fit and eat well and all those things, but you can still be unluckly. So I just take that as it comes. If I had to live life again, I wouldn't change much.

@@betangeltv If you have really thought about everything else you could be doing with your time that you spend trading now that you no longer need to trade for money and you still came to the conclusion that there is literally nothing else in the world you want to do with that time than trade then you should obviously spend it trading. However, I personally struggle to believe that that really is the case. For example I have seen you post on X many times about how one year you will attend the Cheltenham Festival, Royal Ascot, the Melbourne Cup, the Dubai World Cup, the Breeders Cup for examples, but every year you have put it off in favour of trading these meetings. The money you make from trading these meetings is effectively meaningless now given your level of wealth and your likely remaining life span, even when taking account of what you may wish to leave to others. So if you were to find out you will die tomorrow do you honestly believe that you would be happy with how you have been using your time trading rather than every other thing you could possibly do with that time? If yes, I would say you need to explore what the world has to offer more, furthermore, if it really isn't about the money, would you be willing to donate all your trading income in 2024 to charity, perhaps the one your wife works for, then you really are taking the pursuit of money out of your decision making process. As each year goes by your ability to do things you once could reduces further, as you know too well from your various health posts. You have probably at best 15 to 20 years of a good health span ahead, think how quick the last 15 - 20 years have seemingly passed. My advice for the little it is worth, don't waste it stuck behind a computer!

I should add that my comment/advice is applicable as much to myself as it is to any one else. Do I have everything figured out, of course not, but it is an area I have become more and more interested in exploring, thinking about and trying to apply. Hopefully you take it in the well intentioned meaning way that it is offered and that it makes you take pause and think.

No one on their death bed ever said they wished they had worked more. Living the dream is found in your health, time and relationships. It is not found in money or objects or how you think others perceive you or how you want others to perceive you. Learning the true meaning of enough is key.

I've talked about this at length. Apart from the very start, my focus has NEVER been money. I've got three grounded children who are now adults, been married for nearly 30 years. So I'm sorted on the relationship side. I think that's telling. I just returned from a holiday of a lifetime with my daughter who is between jobs. My career was an enabler for me to be financially independent and live life on my own terms. Which is exactly what I achieved. I've used my career to do all the things I ever dreamt of. What people don't tell you about the health bit, is it is not under your control. So you shouldn't think that because you want good health you will get it. Time and age will often deal you a different hand.

There is an interesting research based article in today's Guardian newspaper: 'Isolated Indigenous people as happy as wealthy western peers'. The conclusion being “The strong correlation frequently observed between income and life satisfaction is not universal and proves that wealth - as generated by industrialised economies - is not fundamentally required for humans to lead happy lives,” It's worth a read.

I do what I do because I enjoy it, it just happens that money is the output. While I did need that to do a number of things I could have done it another way. It just happens that I'm measured that way in the work I do.

I think winning the lottery would be a curse, everything (and everyone including your self) would change overnight, i think the best bit about building your own success is the period when you first start to see the benefits come to fruition, whats the famous saying?
