Who in the right mind would want to use medieval 5% commission when you can have 2% and if liquidity is there for most of the markets for big and a bit smaller events but not low profile ones ? None of the modern exchanges (apart from betfair of course) have more than 2% these days.

Totally agree with this. Clean easy site brilliant for small scale matched betting. Anyone looking to trade probably still needs to rely on the documented/highlighted advantages of the Betfair platform. Liquidity is a biggie once you go in with larger figures!

Got a nice present from smarkets this morning I’m now being move to the 3% select tier for being 25k in profit on my account for the last year. RIP smarkets was fun while it lasted

Have had lots contact me over this. Such is the world.... very little can be done as doesn't affect many people at all. Like Premium Charge but worse being a turnover charge.

Caan Berry Pro Trader I agree it doesn’t affect many but Smarkets state that only 0.2% of its customers either place 1,500 or more bets or stake more than £1m in a month or make £25k profit in the past 12 months. It’s definitely not that small for sure I’d guess 2-3%

It's a shame exchange growth has been slower than expected with most punters continuing to use bookies and getting less return on their bets just because they aren't educated or aware because of the lower advertising budgets like you said. I'd like to see exchange growth because it's better for everyone (except the bookies), and more competition between the exchanges which should make Betfair think twice about reducing the ridiculous 60% PC or give traders more opportunities than just one company

Honestly it's getting worse than expected in my opinion. More competition is not good for a peer2peer ecosystem like Betting exchange. More markets and more competitors mean only more diluted money. I bet on football and i started with the exchanges, but really, have you seen the odds on Betfair and on Pinnacle recently? The are quite even most of the time, but on Pinnacle you can bet at maximum stake every time, even in the less known football matches, no spreads , no commission. You just can't do that on the exchanges. What's the point o backing or laying at a better prices, if you have and extra 5% or 2% commission? Not considering premium charges of course. I think that future for exchanges is more uncertain than you think, maybe horses an tennis will resist because they are just right for trading, i talk from a "punter" perspective

Before I started trying to trade, I would go on smarkets to place a back bet and a lay bet hoping for them to get matched lol The support people were very nice on live chat and like you say if only there was more money and being able to trade with them I would give them a go.

To clarify the 1% charge, only applies if you opt in to the pro tier and you only pay 1% commission on winning and losing bets - so +1/-1 as opposed to +2/-0 for win/loss. But........you can place about 50 bets a day on average before having to opt in (enough for small time traders as long as not scalping) and you are advised when reaching the limit so you can stop trading for the rest of the month. Also they did do 0% comm for members of oddsmonkey etc. Tbf there are some big advantages to this exchange as long as liquidity is there e.g. PL football matches where you open at one price and close at another. You can do 25 of those a day without the premium tier.

Not a smarkets biggest fan though i do use it coz of 2% comm. but during Cheltenham festival the liquidity really was there you gotta give them that. One of the races in Betfair: Liquidity: £1800000, Smarkets: £6000000 :) 3x better and that was not just one race but all of them had better liquidity there. And although they are just Betfair (price) followers I will take 2% (all of the modern exchanges have 2%, not some 5% daylight robbery rubbish) any day if the liquidity is there! And on top of that when you are with oddsmonkey you cant go wrong with 0% commission on all of your bets. :)

Never used them but can see it an advantage for matched betting but struggle to see how traders can use them without the software?

Which company would you recommend for people in Australia? Here betfair is limited like you cant bet in play only before the matches started also you cant cash out while matches are being played

Wow, £50 risk free bet. Those seem like the good old days, but they were not that long ago. Just proves how tight bookies/exchanges etc, have become with their introductory and reload offers.

If smarkets wants to be big it should start sponsoring a premier League team like most other bookies do. If that happens more people would use betting exchanges which would be great because then the bookies would have no choice but to give value. Im going to start using betdaq because they have o percent commission for pa members

tried it hate it i trade football sometimes it looks like you have been matched and then your not, now with var its worse. prices are less than betfair too. matchbook is better if betfair goes down.

Hard to cash out in play. Don't get caught inplay with them. Political stuff isn't bad. Lower comission than Betfair same odds on well backed markets.

Thing is with exchanges... if your just a punter who knows his stuff and makes money ... jp McManus.. Harry Findlay..David Nevinson etc .. 20% charge for punting makes bookmakers seem a bargain ... which is why they all use bookmakers ...

@@CaanBerryProTrader they all use runners .. but if you listen to Harry Findlay on here the bookies have never banned him for some reason ... even when he owned Denman as was interlinked with Paul Nichols they took his money ... jp McManus as far as I understand has always use runners ... Nevinson in his book a bloody good winner says he used runners and there payment was just the tip But they are no fuck about punters never trade it off .... Harry Findlay's book "the man who won millions and lost the lot" sort of says it all .. he's won it all back again now .. Harry the dog... but they are all the exception not the rule

Great for match betting, say through a profit accumulator tie in 0% commission etc., Made me a small fortune at Cheltenham, it's also great for trading massively high profile football. Liquidity problem really shows up if you try to trade out though expecting an instant gree (or red) like Betfair. That part can be very frustrating at first. Jason (the CEO) did respond to me on this explaining it wasn't 100% peer to peer and the way to get the green was to place the opposing bet and even if no punters took it they would. As you know though in the heat of the moment it can take a bit of working out. Great video mate.

25k yearly allowance before you get slapped with 3% on wins or losses. A joke really, Not like it’s even difficult to pass that allowance when your match betting.

Do you get to make 25k year and it resets or is it lifetime of the account?
