In my twenties and in the 70s, was so fortunate to hear Ms. Betty Carter in our club in Lakewood NJ. Many times. She was a regular. Loved her and her trios. Moving on! Tight! After I married, we saw her in Cambridge MA. Once last time. Her wonderful voice. Her timing. Her phrasing.

I saw her live at Ronnie Scott's jazz club, London 1986. I gathered the courage to ask for her autograph and if she would sing "For You". Which she did. Once in a lifetime experience!

She died in 1998 so this must have been right before she passed. What a legend

She apparently was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that same Summer and passed just a couple months later. Legend indeed

Yes, it's my understanding thst this was one of her last tours/performances. Per her biography, during this tour, she wasn't feeling well, went to the doctor, was diagnosed in July/August '98 and was gone by the end of September '98. I miss her so much.

Bruce Flowers is right in there with John Hicks and the best Betty pianists - listen as he plays betty out in the recap - and could she pick players - Cyrus Chesnutt is crazy good

I'm 48 now & I was raised on MIZz. Betty & recall in the 80's my mother, step dad DeVere, uncle chuga & Bryce(his husband) reflecting on the concert in Philly & how'd they leave the venue, search for her on South Street, find'er slayin' the stage & crowd ...she was Understandably personal at those intimate venues & appreciated my kin following her to her next stop!
