This song and the album Grace under pressure take me back to my high school marching band days.........great memories and music to go along with them.

My senior year in HS. I was fired up for the release of this album, and it didn't disappoint. In fact, it's one of my top 5 records from RUSH. I think 7 out of the 8 tracks are great songs. And the other one, "Kid Gloves," is pretty good. This was always one of my favorite solos from Alex. In fact, his work on the whole song is great. And really, the entire album. I always thought the mesh between Synths and Guitar were perfect on this album.

Grace was my first tour and I was lucky enough to see them ten more times over the years right up to their last tour. RIP Professor. Cheers!

Greetings: I know the feeling however I was older, out of HS and at university. However we share the memories or marching band. I was in Band from Elementary up thru university. Music composition was my Major whilst I was writing charts and playing field shows. This song is 1 of my favorites of Rush. I learned a lot on percussion from Neil. RIP. A great man, artist, composer, and family man. Actually all 3 were. Indeed he was a great asset when he joined the group . I doubt Alex and Geddy would made it as far as they did without him.

Cant call them shabby when they played nearly for 50 years if it wasnt for Neil retiring and his health getting bad

Lifeson never got recognized, Eddie Van Helan did and called him one of the best.

I have yet to see Alex Lifeson's name on any of those " greatest guitarists" polls. That's just crazy.
@richcapo2 жыл бұрын
Alex is a very fine, understated guitarist. Even his flashiest work is restrained, which is admirable. It’s tasty. But he doesn’t belong on any best guitarists list, especially not in the latter years of his career. He’s just not innovative, technical, or emotional enough to rank among the best in my opinion. No doubt he’s much better than I could ever be, but that’s saying nothing. Put him up against the greats like Stanley Jordan, Chet Atkins, Paco De Lucia, and the boys from Chon, and he just doesn’t rank. Your mileage may vary.
@joelalexander45132 жыл бұрын
@@richcapo My mileage does vary. Alex is an incredibly emotive player who adapts to his synergy, chemistry, and friendship. I never look at guitarists, or artists for the matter, as technicians and nothing else, I look at them as renaiscaince people, and Alex comes in, in spades, near the top, for his chosen field. Why did you even comment, btw? Trying to get my head around THAT, lol. Alex has chord shape innovation, to let the synth textures shine thru and do THEIR job, in fact, I'd go so far to say that his playing and craft were reimagined and honed with that particular "obstacle". Not sure which point of your I disagree with more,..the fact that you opened up your mouth, or the fact that you didn't delete your absurd comment.
@andysimpson43272 жыл бұрын
I never heard of any of those other guys, but when I think of great guitar solos, I think of Alex Lifeson. He seems to understand that it's not necessarily a contest to see who can play the most notes in the shortest period of time 😂
@richcapo2 жыл бұрын
@@andysimpson4327, there are many facets of guitar playing. Technique is only one of those facets, and being a master technician means nothing without musicality - innovation, emotion, etc. Alex just doesn’t excel in any facet of guitar playing enough to rank him among the greats in my opinion. No doubt he’s very good - and certainly better than I could ever be (which says nothing) - but the list of greats who exceed Alex musically is over a mile long, I say. The boys from Chon aside, I’m surprised you’ve never heard of the guitarists I mentioned. Are you new to guitar music? I ask because those guys are legends - absolute masters of their craft.

I was playing Final Fantasy 6 again yesterday and I got to the World of Ruin. Those of you familiar with this, remember the organ on the overworld there? Pretty sure Uematsu got his inspiration from Between the Wheels with that, but it brought me back to when I first listened to this song; I was always "meh" when the synths started out the track, but when Lerxst came in with that Dm7 chord it brought everything together

Aside the low volume, This performance is 1 of the best I have seen and heard all things considered. Geddy getting a bit squawky at the end as happened later in time. Indeed the touring takes it's toll. Outstanding tour tho. RIP Neil. U R not 4gotten and greatly appreciated.
