Take a look at how torque and power is transmitted through bevel gears. Look at bevels as spinning cones with meshed gear teeth. Work out gear ratios between input and output shafts.
Sketch bevel gears then model them in Autodesk Inventor.
Skip to 8:10 to see bevel gears sketched
Skip to 14:00 for Cad Modeling in Autodesk Inventor
We do it all in this video. Explain bevel gears, draw them, and then model them in Autodesk.
The subject of Bevel gears often come up in both high school and college physics and engineering classes. They are found in Project Lead the Way (PLTW), Principles of Engineering (POE), AP Physics, and the JEE exam.

i love the pen drawings he does. i think it somehow makes the explanation better, like it helps the viewer focus more than if it was like on ms paint or something. i'm an artist and i'm into engineering too (hence why i'm watching this, i technically know this stuff already but i think always good to get refreshers etc and stuff, i'm meant to be designing stuff rn)

The simplest of concepts, ...cones..., helps to appreciate/understand why the gear tooth form on either bevel gear cannot be simply cut to the cutter profile.

Absolutely. That's why bevel gears aren't exactly cheap to manufacture.

Thank you for such amazing videos. I'd like to ask a question as I'm currently working on a project. Can these bevel gears be used to reduce the speed? Like the context of the project is that we've to reduce the speed (in rpm) of the motor and provide reduced speed to next set of shaft and blades. Your reply will be appreciated! Thanks
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS 2 жыл бұрын
No different than with spur gears, if the input gear is smaller than the output gear then the output speed will be reduced.

Hi is it possible to make big gear driven by small gear in high speed? This is for bevel gear. I am currently making a project than need to use bevel gear. But wanted the mechanism of gear to be different.

Yes, unlike a worm gear, either gear can be connected to the input shaft. A small gear driving a large gear (ie. a gear ratio greater than one) can be very useful in magnifying torque at the cost of losing rotations.

@@INTEGRALPHYSICS does it need more force on shaft(small gear) to drive the output gear (big gear) ?
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS 3 жыл бұрын
When a small gear drives a big gear it requires very little input force to produce lots of output force.

its not really about the outside diameter or the inside diameter, its the difference between the two. if you move one inside diameter up or down its y axis(with respect to the other gear) , you are changing the difference between the base and the inside diameters and thus the angle needed to connect them.
@INTEGRALPHYSICS
@INTEGRALPHYSICS 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You can think of the angle the line of action makes between the input shaft and output shaft as being what controls the gear ratio.

The problem is that the modeling process is slightly different depending on what program you are using (Inventor, Solids... etc.) There's some really great tutorials on youtube on how to become proficient on just about any of those programs. That's how I learned Autodesk.
