For Dragonball, Goku THOUGHT he was 14 and says so very early in the series when Bulma says she's 16. But it turned out he just didn't know how to count, and after learning math during his training w Roshi, he figured out his actual age was 12 (up to that point). He does looks about 8. Goten and Trunks look the exact same in Z during Buu and they're 7 to 8. Though they also looks the same in Super now and are supposed to be 13-14...even though future Trunks looked completely different at 14, like an actual 14 year old, in Z....Toriyama doesn't understand how to depict consistent aging. Genos is 19, so it's technically okay to make comments about his mechanical parts. I remembered Leorio was either working on getting into med school or had just finished med school (cuz I read the Hunter x Hunter manga when I was IN med school), and so I was torn between 19 and 26 since those ages could be right for one and the other (depending what country you're going to school in). When I was actually 17-18 I had the abs like some of these shonen baits do, but still overall looked like a baby, 14 at best. Now, at 34, abs are gone (forever) and the face....varies. Clean shaven and short hair, I look very young. Long hair and beard, I fully look my age. Nothing has ever made me look older than I am. That said I 100% remember there were dudes my age in high school who looked like full adults. The worst being one who was MY size and appearance the previous year, got absolutely slapped in the face by puberty and became a giant over the summer. I felt betrayed. Not even joking, it must have been physically painful it was so massive and quick of a change. But not me, I just age with progressively deader looking eyes.

interesting note about yoko: the degree she plays into this is actually kinda ambiguous, as from what i recall, she's fourteen _littner_ years old. as in, fourteen years according to the calendar of her subterranean home village with little to no direct exposure to the sky. so while the design changes post-timeskip show that she's not _quite_ fully grown into a young adult by the start of the series, it's very possible that she's very much in her late teens or early twenties by our measure of time the same goes for kamina and simon, in fact, though since they're from another village and simon _doesn't_ look far off from fourteen, gita's measure of years might be a fair bit closer to our's compared to littner

I love Bloom into you. It isn't entirely normal but it has conflict, confession, rivalries, and kids being kids. And tons of gay. Goku is like 50 in newest show but he still looks 21 that's just how saiyans age. Toyko Revenge? Why is he smoking if he's 14!?

Kinda wish they'd gone into more detail about the characters who look younger for a reason. Like why Bisky's appearance is so different from her real age. [spoilers for the 10 year old anime adaptation below the cut] Because she hates how she really looks, her wishing and wishing for years to look young, small, and cute slowly imprinted on her aura. Since aura and Nen respond so strongly to emotions and desires, she became able to morph to her smaller, cuter form, but has to change back to her natural appearance in order to tap into her full strength. I thought it was neat that there's an actual reason for her looking like that, and speaking as a trans person who hates how I look and has been wishing every day during my five years in transition to look cute and pretty, it really hit close to home.

The first time I watched Dragon Ball and when at the 1st World Martial Arts Tournament they said Goku was 12 I was like "What? He looks 8!" So yes, like your cast I thought he was 8.

Never watched "Non non Biyori" but the description of the plot sounds like my school life in a nutshell. I was always the youngest in my class, and also one of the tallest. When I took the exam at the end of middle school, the teacher was telling us to present our identity cards, which you don't get until 14, and I raised my hand like "What if I don't have one?". She gave me this stare I'll never fucking forget, it was hilarious! She told me to just present my birth certificate, but man, all my teachers were always so surprised by my age lmao
