A little backstory to Mick Gordon and the Doom OST. When they hired Mick for the soundtrack id Software specifically told him they didn't want electric guitars (basically metal music) on the OST, since according to them it would've been too obvious, too blasé, they wanted something different. So Mick Gordon did a Mick Gordon and sampled literally everything else! The sounds you hear in the OST are sampled from a chainsaw, hedge trimmers, lawn mower, meat grinder, wood chipper, a microwave (not even kidding), etc., and then he threw the whole thing through a metric fuckton of filters (as you can see in the video). The guitar is only used to drive this diabolical mess of powertools and mayhem, so _technically_ he complied with id's demands AND created the most brutal fucking video game OST ever made.

That is an 8 string guitar. Basically just a regular guitar but with a longer scale length (usually between 26.5 and 28 inches) and 2 extra strings (7th string tuned to B and 8th tuned to F# in standard tuning).

Mick is such a legend, great song for a hell of a game. Been too long for me to remember specifics but iirc Bethesda really treated him very poorly working on the modern doom games, BGS farming L's as usual lately.

mick is great, and his music fits perfectly w dooms gameplay. shame about his falling out w bethesda and ID. also since you’re a sonic fan, and enjoyed this you should check out sonic frontiers’ ost. specifically the titan fights. ‘undefeatable’ ‘find your flame’ ‘break through it all’ and ‘i’m here-revisited’ all super heavy songs with great vocals
