BFS Fishing for Pike: Exploring UK Canals with Monkey Lures

More BFS fishing as I explore the rural UK canal waters of the North West. In this video I'm using the 3.5cm 'Baby Lui' paddle tail by Monkey Lures.

Thankyou for your reply. I’ve got a selection of small monkey lures, Spinmad grubes and a good selection of other bfs lures and planning a trip out at the weekend to a couple of stretches I’ve had my eye on. My local canal is very patchy and unpredictable at the moment.

Went on a couple of stretches featured in your vlogs. We fished different lures, soft plastics, crank baits, spinner baits and many more. We fished with monkey lures and spin mad grubs. Not a dicky bird. We fished from 7am to 4pm. What where we doing wrong🤯🤯🤯

Oof - that’s a long stretch with no bites. I’m almost certain you weren’t doing anything wrong. I’ve found that weather seems to be the biggest influence. While the water is still cool I’m fishing on the bottom most of the time. If it’s sunny then I’ll fish the shady spots. I’ll do my best to avoid boat traffic. Honestly I rarely fish for longer than 2-3 hours, if I don’t get a bite relatively quickly I’ll move on. I am going to try a couple of evening sessions this week to see if I can get anything out closer to home. If I can turn it into a video I’ll try and explain what I’m doing I a bit more detail 👍

When you decide you’re going fishing for a couple of hours on the canal, do you fish a random section or do you have a favourite?

I have a selection of different swims, all within 20 minutes of where I live. I tend to choose based on the weather and a guess of what the conditions will be like if I head north or south. Sometimes it works, sometimes it’s a bust 😁

Nice looking little mini paddle tails but pretty pricey at £8.99 for 12, especially for someone fishing on a budget like myself. When it comes to soft plastics I would really like to buy British, but I get most of mine from China now because they are cheaper and you generally get more per pack

Yes I know what you mean. I will say that the quality of these lures is high, I’ve still got 4 or 5 of the blue and white colour that I bought probably 3 or 4 years ago. You’ve given me an idea though, maybe I could do a comparison with an equivalent style at a much lower price point. The reason I like the lures is the action, they work like a soft plastic spinner. I haven’t yet come across another that works in the same way.
