It was our long term dream to spend time with local coconut toddy tapper and to understand the process and the difficulties they face. We met a toddy tapper named Soman who took us around explaining each and every question we asked.
Also, we are trying out different Kerala local foods from a village toddy shop near Alapad, Thrissur popularly know as Kundolikadavu Shappu (Location: goo.gl/maps/6qLHGgwa8nxChueU9 ) in this video. This is one of the best toddy shops in Thrissur and family-friendly.

ചെത്തുകാരൻ സോമൻ എന്റെ ക്ലാസ്സ്‌മേറ്റ്‌ ആണ്. അവിചാരിതമായി ഈ വീഡിയോ കാണാൻ ഇടയായതിൽ സന്തോഷം. പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് എന്റെ നാടാണ് ആലപ്പാട്. എന്റെ അച്ഛൻ കുണ്ടോളികടവ് ഷാപ്പിലെ കറികച്ചവടക്കാരനായിരുന്നു എനിക്ക് ഓർമ വച്ച നാൾ മുതൽ. ഞാനും അച്ഛനെ സഹായിക്കാൻ ഷാപ്പിൽ പോകുമായിരുന്നു. അന്നെനിക്ക് മൂന്നാം ക്ലാസ്സിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന പ്രായത്തിൽ മാനേജർ ഒരു ഗ്ലാസ്‌ തനികള്ള് തന്നു ഞാൻ കുടിച്ചു ഫിറ്റായി അയൽവാസിയുടെ തല ഓട്ടുമുറി എടുത്തെറിഞ്ഞു പൊട്ടിച്ചു. അമ്മ വന്നപ്പോൾ എനിക്ക് പൊതിരെ തല്ലു കിട്ടി. ഇപ്പോഴും അതൊക്കെ വല്ലാത്ത ഒരോർമയാണ്... ഈ വീഡിയോ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ നല്ല കള്ള് കുടിച്ചപ്പോഴുണ്ടായ ആ അനുഭവം പങ്കു വച്ചെന്നു മാത്രം. എന്റെ അച്ഛൻ കുണ്ടോളികടവ് ആലിന്റെ ചുവട്ടിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഷാപ്പിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ കറികച്ചവടക്കാരൻ ആയിരുന്നു. പേര് ബാലൻ. എൻ. സി.

Awesome Video. I have heard about this place but did not get a chance to visit this Shaap ( I deliberately spell it this way 😊). My roots are in Irinjalakuda and I got a chance to visit Pravin Koodu and Mapranam Shaap. But Kundolikadavu Shaap seems to be of a different level for sure. You have captured every thing in detail and one would be tempted to visit this place for sure. I am definitely visiting it during my next visit to Thrissur. The food that was being cooked in the kitchen was really drool worthy. I am already salivating. The expansive menu was truly impressive. I am sure it must have been very delicious. Kudos to you both for this Kallu shaap experience. The title of the vlog says it all. Hats off to you guys. Looking forward for your videos. Enthaayaalum adi poli vlog aanu tto...... Normally they tap in the mornings and evenings. So once the tree is tapped we guess it takes around half a day to collect toddy in the pot. It taste much better when consumed directly from the collecting pot 😊
