John, thank you very much for showing the inside of the Biax, I really wanted to know how they worked, it's a quite clever mechanism.

Jens, thanks for the tip, the screw was very tight to undo. I tend to undertighten things, and I do have a torque screwdriver that I use sometmes on very sensitive euipment. Nice coutry Denmark, i drove there from the UK once, quite a long trip in one day. John

This video is quite timely for me as I'm about to disassemble the exact same model. very well explained, surely the best on youtube concerning the Biax, many thanks. I'm not sure as this vid is 4 years old, if you knew that it is adjustable for stroke, by inserting a 6mm hx allen key in the socket head (the one that has also the nut and cotter pin) and turning it either clockwise or anticlockwise. Access is at the bottom through the holes in the casting, thanks again for this, very helpful, regards, Dave

Dave, glad that my description was useful. Yes a good point about the variable stroke. I didn't discover it until I reassembled it and didn't post about it. You are right that there is very little info about these scrapers and no manuals available. John

@@john2478 an update: I've just now successfully dismantled and reassembled the Biax, albeit not totally, but enough to clean and grease what I can, I'll make those tools to take it apart further, but I'm confident to do so now, the big thing was the pin to hold the shaft to undo the reciprocater, one more thing, the plates that the slider block runs on, are on tapers, and you can undo the screws, move them to take up play, but you probably knew that! thanks again.

Hey John.. My same scraper from 1976 just gave up on me today.. So i am in the process of changing all the bearings, the one in the end of the motor is the worst, so i went a bit further.. Nice video 👍👍

Glad it was helpful. The key thing with these scrapers is that the helical gear is not damaged.

Very good job figuring out the disassembly on your own. I wouldn't feel too bad though. After buying my brand new German made Haimer 3D Taster I thought it might be a good idea to email and ask them for an exploded diagram of it's internals just in case. The same results as yours and zero response back from them. There factory sealed and afaik no other company in the world is set up to do any repairs to them if you ever crash one. A trip back to the factory in Germany is the only option. While expensive, that Kluber grease is very good stuff, maybe even better than what the Biax factory first used back in the 1970's.

It is satisfying to get it apart safely and have it running again hopefully for many years and share it. I know the Achillies heel of these scrapers is the fibre gear. I have seen several for sale on Ebay with failed gears. I think I know how to make one as I did make some helical gears for a clock some years ago. The great thing about KZfaq is that the knowledge can be shared world wide and it is like a giant reference library. Yes the Kluber grease is the best currently available which is why I chose it. Great video . Thanks for sharing, and give us insight into the workings , it seems that the new models the case is different, can you please let me know what was the approximate diameter of the wobble mechanism.? If you can’t remember, the outside diameter of the case will do, thanks very much
