This is an enormously traumatic event to ask Biden to step down, his entire life has been devoted to govt service, and this is akin to asking him to obliterate his identity. When my grandfather had to go to a care facility he went through all the phases of change: shock, disbelief, anger, negotiation, compromise, acceptance and then adoption. The arc of these stages is psychologically brutal, some cannot make it through and crash and burn, whereas others finally make it. It requires love and care and feedback and empathy along the way, yet at the same time being firm on the new direction...and not just for the good of a person being targeted, but also for the collective he or she is in. In my opinion Joe has gone through the shock and disbelief stage, and now is in the anger and negotiation stage...soon he will move into the compromise and acceptance stage. Interestingly enough these fazes also apply to the country accepting this change, as well as Jill Biden who is perhaps will be one of the greatest hinderances to Joe's acceptance Important role in moving this along with dignity and respect and empathy, yet with firm direction for the greater good will be Barack Obama

While I do agree that the family SHOULD have that ability, you have to also think of the possibility that because they are family, that might be clouding their judgement, almost to the point of denial, because for them to accept this would be absolutely crushing for them given how much trauma and grief the family has been through for a very long time. Whether or not that's the case is obviously not known, but we can't definitive say what the family should be doing when we really don't know.

It can be inferred that although our Forefathers did not explicitly define "inability to discharge the Powers and Duties", nor did the Constitution expressly confer a duty to a sitting president to determine their own capacity for "inability to discharge their Powers and Duties", it follows that (1) a president who does not have the ability to discharge the Powers and Duties is legitimate cause for concern and removal; and (2) by any reasonable standard of interpretation of this wording in the Constitution, an ability to perform implies a measurement on some valid battery or scale that by convention would not be a self - directed nor self- reported assessment.

This whole situation with Biden is so very sad to witness. Millions watched and are convinced that this is not normal aging. And to your point, yes, many like myself question the motive of those close to Biden, when at an "arm's length" objectivity (and beyond), it is clear something is amiss. A first - year nursing student could appreciate the signs and symptoms pointing to some form of Parkinsonism or neuropathology. And when elder abuse is so prevalent and should be taken very seriously (unfortunately, the laws have little teeth as I have witnessed first hand in my family - sister financially exploited my mother) - it sickens me that what is going on the White House on so many levels undermines people getting the care they need and also invalidates the excruciating betrayal that victims of elder abuse endure.

I would contend that Biden already is in managed care. He is occationally stimulated and brought out for interesting events where he get applauded and appreciated, but not involved in sternous things like real presidential functions.. He's allowed an harmless fantasy that he is the president and involved in things. That's not bad for combating dementia! For me that doesn’t matter as much as the presidency being a 24/7 job that sometimes requires you to push through, and even if it’s just Joe being an older Joe, his ability to push through is hampered by his aging. Normal aging can impair working a high intensity, high consequence job. Sometimes we just have to accept that we can’t do all the things we use to or want to.
