I’m torn on this one. On the one hand, cool. On the other, the Indian/Pakistani guys would have melted steel out of old appliances and somehow welded it to the anvil, and then machine it to a new tolerance. All without sandals and in a filthy environment haha.

Dude i saw a vid like that i can't really recal but more or less it was a sandalesless sitting on the ground indian dude ULTRA RAPIDLY welding 2 MASSIVE blocks of steel... while doing exactly nothing but looking at it chilling, no automation. I'm a aspiring physicist and an engineer so it pisses me off not to remeber how he did it -fuck reactive masks or just googles of course why use that when you can implement the "turn your eyes away" failsafe- But idk again if he had some.sort of mechanical, electrical pulley or whatever to pull it but it basically went like that: Dude does his best to drop any protection equipment assurong he is well grounded Dude does a couple manuel welds. Then fills up the rest of the gap with welding sticks, and somehow manages to get his welder to slowly creep forward perfectly weldong those 2 together Those 2 versions are both cool to me but i have to say the ingenuity of assessing the "i'm probably gonna die one day doing this" with the "yeah but i really want to just sit dow." Is admirable

That was not a restoration. Restoring would of included rebuilding what was removed. If it were a cast steel anvil, you could of welded the top with hard facing stick. @@homemade_projects It's a piece of living History. Metal has a "memory". Dent it and it stays dented. Bend it and it stays bent. Like some people. LOL There was a small speciality forge down the street from where I grew up: Precision gear/bearing "trains" from variable hardness, stacked metal cores -- before the advent of CAD/CAM machining. In 4th Grade, I used to stop and watch them work on my way home from school, and on Saturdays. That Summer, before going into 5th grade, I was there watching, whenever I wasn't hopping trains or seeking mischief elsewhere. The foreman approached me early in July. He invited me onto the floor for a closer look. Hot Work. I was a fledgling artist and would show them my drawings on lunch hour: Space Ships, Aliens (multiple-breasted females), and Fantastic Worlds. Long and short: I couldn't work the floor, so they sent me to drafting/engineering to learn the trade. I learned quickly. Nice blend of Creativity, Math and Science. By the start of school in September, I was drafting helical gear trains. Good teachers. Good Men. Hard workers. Turned me around. I worked Saturdays during the School Year, and two 4-hour days a week during the Summer. They ACTUALLY paid me for something I was willing to do for free. 13 years later (mid-1970s), I was writing computer programs/apps. I developed a program for digitally-automated CAD, on machines with a whopping 256k RAM! In Short: More than once, I'd crack a smile remembering those start-up days, and the working men who took an interest in me. So... What does all of this memory lane "stuff" have to do with anvils? 1): Good, Hard Work leaves and indelible impression on the tools of the TRADE; among which Humans are numbered. 2): No matter how bent a piece of metal might be, it can be worked back into shape with the right amount of heat and the right pair of hands. 👍

It’s tungsten carbide man what are you hanging around for ? Get those speeds and feeds up chap !
@homemade_projects Жыл бұрын
Its running overspeed as it is for a 6" cutter on hardened steel have to save those tips
@Whateverpoopiepants Жыл бұрын
@@homemade_projects Maybe for hss, absolutely no way your running that at the max speed for hard steel. No way on earth.
@homemade_projects Жыл бұрын
@@Whateverpoopiepants well the tips were wearing out every few cuts so your solution would be to increase the speed to wear them even faster ???
@Whateverpoopiepants Жыл бұрын
@@homemade_projects You mean the tips were chipping ? They aren’t wearing out. My solution would probably have been to knock the outside skin off with a grinder and then go at it with an aggressive cut. You’ll find with carbide you can’t get a decent finish without working it hard.
@homemade_projects Жыл бұрын
@@Whateverpoopiepants the tips were not chipping but wearing as i say. This was a very old hard grade steel and was removing over 1/2" of material. At first cut the tips were sparking due to to high rpm. When lowered the rpm it stopped causing sparks and tips lasted abit longer. Carbide has limitations on what it cuts this was no ordinary steel lots of patches of weld / harden areas and contamination from casing not your best quality stuff

@homemade_projects4 ай бұрын
@@chopperhehehe i would do a test area first, this one has been welded before and left rough patches. Only after cutting i can see it's a steel some are cast iron and will affect your welding. If your across the water probably too difficult to get here to start with. You could do a half decent job with a angle grinder. Good luck 👍
