Clarification The Road Glide is what is called "twin cooled" air and water, sorry I wasn't more clear. And the primary is chain drive, with the final drive being belt. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks!

ANONYMOUS BIKER USA unfortunately you left out one HUGE HUGE PIECE of the puzzle!!! That is…… The service of Harley Davidson !! You can travel anywhere, and not fear being stranded. With the foreign bike though it’s Great! You don’t even have mom and pop shops that would take it in half the time! It’s unfortunate because the Kawasaki is an amazing bike and I wish the service availability from city to city state to state would be more on the map like it would be for Harley Davidson!

Harley and BMW wear you out with some kind of service or checkup about every thousand miles. Jap bikes, just fill the gas tank and ride! Dealer will see you for tires and that's about it. Kaw is probably underpowered at 75 h.p. and the two rear shock suspension is antique technology.

Harley will always have buyers that want to fit in with their “friends”. And willing to pay the extra money just to say that they ride one. Even though they have the third worst rating for reliability. Yep 26% have a major breakdown in the first year! BTW, they are not made in the USA anymore. India and Mexico is where they are made. They are “assembled” (the wheels, bags and handlebars are put on) here. Don’t drink the koolaide people, make your own decisions based on value and common sense.

I smile when you say "fit in". Harley is kind of synonymous with being a rebel. A rebel doesn't conform with the masses and all I see at rallies is a mass of Harleys. I ride what I want, what I like and don't care to fit in, to be a conformist of the rebel ideal. A Honda CTX1300 is a rare unicorn and sticks out like a sore thumb at a rally. The rebel in the crowd of conformity. So I consider myself the rebel even though I don't have the rebel attitude.

The Kawasaki is a fantastic bike to get into touring. You get all the important touring aspects on both bikes. Powerful engine. 6 speed transmission. Bigger gas tanks. Hardbags and tour paks and cruise control. No different than a "starter home or rv". It gets people into the lifestyle without the premium price. And in my.opinion that makes the voyager an even better value. And regardless of what you ride the road and wind are all the same. The bike doesn't make the rider.

After looking at a number of bikes to purchase, new, as I go into retirement I chose the Vulcan Voyager 1700 ABS. The cost was a big factor, but, the reliability and cost of maintenance was also figured in. On my old HD a major maintenance was about $1200.00. On my Kawasaki its $350.00. I am not a young man so reliability was VERY important. Once again the Vulcan came out on top. Just 2 days ago I "Ivanized" my bike. What a difference!!! So, if you want to spend a lot less money for a whole lot of bike, get the Vulcan.

Same. My last bike was a 2005 Honda VTX 1800n and the Vaquero is definitely interesting. I am not a Harley guy although I did enjoy the Cross Bones when I rode it on a demo day a few years ago. In my opinion Harley definitely has the name and the brand but the more you know about bikes the less likely you will be willing to dish out the tens of thousands extra on a Harley (personal opinion). There are definitely alternatives that with some personalization are absolutely solid. In the end bikes are like art, you either like it or not.

@@Leatherbro Yes the Japanese bikes will cost you less to own but the aftermarket support is where Harley takes the lead. There is very little aftermarket options for Japanese bikes where for Harley the sky is the limit. I've owned both and currently own a 2012 Ultra Limited. The bike before it was a Voyager. I liked the Voyager and it served me well. With that said I enjoy my Harley more. If you are OK with a stock bike for the length of ownership definitely go with the Voyager. If you want to customize your bike and make it your own go with a Harley. As far as reliability. My personal experience tells me it's all about how you maintain and ride your Harley. I have been diligent with the maintenance on my bike and have not abused it in any way. Other than a set of slip on pipes I have not done any performance mods. I honestly don't think I've ever revved the engine past 3K rpm. The people I know who have had trouble with Harley has not maintained them correctly and abused them. They then cry to everyone about how they are crap. Personally I prefer a Harley however if prices continue to rise I will be forced to put value over preference.

While I really like the bike, when I test rode a Harley RGS the torque difference was night and day. Shortly after I traded the Vaquero in for a 19 RGS and I've not looked back. My Harley is much faster and way more fun to ride. But it's all about preference and these are good bikes, so I'll never knock on what someone rides. Respect to you friend for not favoring one more than the other. You simply detailed and stated all the facts and highlights. Just one crucial detail you left out…”Ground Clearance”. I personally chose the Voyager because of it’s price difference (can’t afford that 10g+ difference). But I found that the Road Glide’s Ground Clearance is much greater than the Voyager’s. But for 10g’s more? You’re right, HD better sweeten the pot for that extra amount, in addition all the expensive maintenance HD requires.

I picked up my 2020 Voyager last June. Got it for even cheaper as your listed price stated. Otd was 16,123.00. 2 main complaints with it are. The throttle is snappy throttle in 1st thru 3rd gears. Plan to send ecm to Ivan and have it reflashed to solve this issue. Right thigh still gets fried even with the cams system. I did by saddle shields to hopefully help with this issue.

I've got a 2018 Vulcan Voyager (red metalic over gray metalic) that I bought for $12,400 with 1040 miles on it. It's a beautiful bike that rides amazing. It comes with an ACT braking system which activates both front and rear brakes when only applying either the front or rear brake. It's a very nice safety feature for superior advanced braking. I've added bluetooth, superior chrome grips, windshield bag, Vulcan saddlebag and rear compartment zip up, easy removable liners for when I travel (easy way to pack your gear), phone holder, drink holders for both front and back, highway pegs and a sharp looking chrome radiator cover all for less than $500 and was able to pay cash for the bike instead of financing a 30k Harley. I've looked at both bikes at dealers (no riding) and I noticed some fit, finish and quality differences. The most obvious is the quality of the HD bags and trunk is far better, both in materials and construction. The Yamaha Venture (pre '17) seemed to be between the two in overall quality, fit and finish. The Kaw felt more top heavy than the others when sitting still and leaning them over. I'm 5'6" and the Venture seemed to fit me the best from a seat/bar/foot rest perspective. They're all great bikes, I think you can't go wrong with any of them.

No, if a Harley makes it to 100k, it’s because the engine was completely rebuilt before 80. That’s not a joke, I had a mechanic channel pop up into my feed today. Dude has a whole series on his channel about HD engine tear-downs. Most telling, so many people commenting that they just do a complete tear down on their engine before 80k because “I’m not going to buy a new bike every 4-5 years.” And because they are air-cooled, the cylinders are glazed and the rods and piston heads are discolored… I mean, if you don’t have Jay Leno money, idk why you’d ever buy an air cooled road bike. You can do better than the finest technology 1973 has to offer.

Great video! I am a bang for buck kinda guy. I went with the Kawasaki. I looked at HD's but couldn't bring myself to pay the high price for used or new ones plus their extortionist maintenance costs. The poor man's Harley works great for me. Got Ivan's flash which really awakens that motorcycle, daymaker headlights, heated grips and I have a new windscreen on the way. As some one who has owned a Road Glide and currently owns a Voyager. I must admit it is pritty to find a difference between the two ride wise both extremely comfortable and can do 3 hours rides with no stops. The one place the Voyager does fall slightly short for me is the Entertainment system, I think if Kawasaki put a GPS/Radio unit on the bike it would be the clear choice. So to sum up ride wise- same, cost to Kawasaki, add ons to Harley Davidson simply because of the Entertainment unit. So I would say I love both bikes. You need to look at what you want. If you want something that not many other riders have the Kawasaki is the way to go. If you want a more "common" bike go the Harley. If I could I would have both in my garage together.

I've not ridden this Harley - I did ride another one once but I can't remember which one. I do own the 2010 Voyager on which I have now clocked up nearly 100K/kms. Prior to buying the Voyager I had owned and Yamaha XV1100 on which I clocked up about 160K/kms. I considered a number of options before settling on the Kwaka. I'd considered the Goldwing but at $36K(AUD) it was too much - a nice bike but just too much. I gave some thought to a Harley but it was close to $48K whereas the Kwaka was $23K rideaway.. Clearly at the price of 2 Kwakas the Harley had to have a lot going for it but the reputation of Harleys as expensive, unreliable and parts being hard to source did it no favours (those were the stories about Harley's in Australia). My model has a problem with heat on the right-hand side from the exhaust (handy in cold winter but not so good in hot Aussie summers). The additional fan you refer to was fitted to deal with this problem. According to your review the Harley is an extra $10K for a bit more grunt and an infotainment system. I could not justify that expense. I do take the view that you should ride what you like, what you can afford and what suits your needs. To me it is the ride that is important not how fast it goes or how quickly you can get from A to B. Thanks for your review.

I am a relatively new rider and mostly have experience in smaller bikes 100CC,350CC(in India), and currently riding a rebel 500 in the US. I am looking to upgrade and torn between the voyager and the Sport touring YamahaFJR 1300. The Kawasaki is working out to be cheaper and I also like the bike when I looked at it at the dealership. My only concern is it size and I am not a big tourer. Lot of city riding and 100-200 mile multiple trips during the fine months of Chicago. What is the ideal bike for me? More than performance , at my age comfort , wind protection, and enjoying the ride is important. The rebel is good in the city but I don't feel comfortable in windy or expressway speeds and also get sore in my neck and back after 1.5-2 hours of riding. Any suggestions or pointers?

with the breakdown of riding you do, the voyager is probably not the best choice voyager is a BIG heavy bike and is great for highway and touring you can ride it in the city but it's really meant for open road and being new, your skill set needs to be dealt solid at slow speed to manipulate such a big bike in a city setting the FJR is a really nice mix for both types of riding you like to do great in city as it's more compact and can handle touring as well with all the city riding you do, the FJR makes more sense for your application not sure of your budget but have you looked at the kawasaki concours ? another nice in between machine. Indian super chief, harley low rider ST or heritage, all can handle both city and highway not sure of your budget though keep me posted! best thing is to do is demo ride all of them in the city and see how you feel voyager is tremendous but it's a lot of bike for a new rider in a big city

People buy Harleys because they want the cache. I've owned several and have enjoyed them, but I've also owned Hondas, several Kawasakis and a Yamaha. Japanese bikes, much like Japanese cars are a bit more vanilla (one color option per year for example) and their components may SEEM cheaper, yet they just run forever w/o problems. HD's typically begin to need engine work before 100,000 miles and when have you ever heard of a Kawa or Yamaha or Honda needing much of anything? They'll outlast a HD 3 times over and cost damn near half as much from the start. So, you decide.

Judging something positively, by how much more money you can throw at it isn’t a selling feature to me. Triumph is now using the same accessories playbook as Harley on that one. Engineering, quality, functionality and especially reliability and a long service life, the Kawasaki wins all those points against Harley easily, and for $10,000 less. Image doesn’t get any mileage with me, substance for money does. I own a 2008 Kawasaki Concours 1400 I bought new, and now has over 100,000 on the clock with only one problem in all that time and distance, a $400 fuel pump. Everything else just routine maintenance and normal wear and tear items.

I've owned two Road Glide Ultras and I loved both of them, but I've no doubt the Kawa is a better bike and value. I simply don't like how the Kawa looks, and I would never buy a bike I couldn't look at without grimacing.

My wife is enjoying riding with me on my ninja 1000sx. The voyager is probably going to replace my ninja next year. First thing I would do is Ivan's ECU flash, slip on and um I'm sure that will be enough power to cruise around merrily with my wife behind me.

I’m 5’7 , 155lbs I’ve been riding a Harley sportster 1200 for 5 years. Looking to get this Kawasaki ,do you think the bike would be a good fit ? Or to big ?

Your height should be fine. Are you a good slow speed skills rider ? If you master the techniques of slow speed riding, you can ride any bike. It’s definitely not a light bike at all. So make sure you’re good at slow speeds so you can control it. If so, you’ll be fine. Your weight doesn’t matter. Let me know !

@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA thank you for the motivation! I’ve grown pretty confident on the sportster at low speeds , turns ect but I know the Harley is like 500lbs compared to the voyager being around 9 lol. I have a can am spyder to which is heavy but doesn’t take much balance. Going to look at a voyager today 2011 with 13k miles for 7,000$ . I’ll deff let you know! I subscribed as wel

Once you master slow speed, the big beast voyager will be easy for ya! It’s great to learn how to ride the BIG beasts! Makes you a great rider with every other bike! Controlling a 900 lb bike is a great feeling. Thanks for subscribing bud! Let me know how you make out with the bike you look at! It’s a great value for the money ! Love mine !

@@jDot2414 one thing. Prior to 2013 I believe, Kawasaki didn’t have the KAMS system. The air management system used to draw away the engine heat and I heard it gets really hot on the legs. Check that out !!!! After 2013 or 14 they installed it and it made a HUGE difference. Just a heads up !

I have the option to get a 2012 Road glide Ultra or 2017 Voyager, but the road glide is $2500 cheaper. I'm thinking the better value might be the HD. My only worry is the suspension and reliability. Never owned an HD before, so kinda nervous about it.
@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA

suspension is definitely better on the voyager and reliability is pretty rock solid. $2500? need to think about cost of ownership and see if it really is $2500 in savings over life of bike both are good machines for sure and all bikes are awesome so good luck on whichever one you select !

I ride a '21 Kawasaki Vaquero (from new). Has about 6,000 miles on it now & aiming to put 10x that on it in the future 🤙 Would be great to have an HD Road Glide, but they're wildly expensive. Dont get me wrong, beautiful bike, but for that price, i'd probably go for the Goldwing 🤷‍♂️ Either way, you can't go wrong with domestic or Japanese. I steer clear of german, british, & italian

I've owned both. The hd needs a monoshock in the rear as bad as the kawi needs a refresh. That and the hd will retain it's value far better than the kawi. At the end of the day their both great bikes though and can't go wrong either way.
