For my 1st overlanding experience I’ll take a solo trip on the big frog loop in the Cohutta Wilderness.
The Cohutta wilderness is in north Georgia and Southern Tennessee. It’s also called the big frog wilderness. The loop is a group of service roads that circle the National Forest. There are also numerous offshoots to explore.
We’ll encounter a few ruts, bumpy tails, switchback, and small rocks along the way. These are forest service roads so it never gets dangerous, 20-25 degrees is the most off camber I ever got.
We’ll cross a few streams and rivers also. Great views of the mountains, crystal clear weather provided sunsets and stargazing at night too
All of the trails were easy, I’m in a slightly modified Jl wrangler sport and had zero trouble. You won’t need a rubicon. It would be safe for longer wheel bases like trucks, gladiators, tacomas, etc.
I went solo but I had plenty of recovery gear, air compressor, firewood, propane grill and heater. Found a secluded primitive campsite, slept in the Jeep. I will definitely return for future Overland Adventures, and hopefully have more time to explore

I really enjoyed this video! Wow at the gorgeous views!Hopefully Shane and I will get up there and see all of this for ourselves. This looked like a lot of serenity, and who doesn’t love that?

Thanks for commenting, it was a blast. So peaceful, went nearly 24 hours without seeing another person. The views were great, I’ll definitely be back

It’s definitely worth it, I watched a lot of other people’s videos before I went there for the first time. I like it when the leaves have thinned out, I had been on a small part of it previously (from Elijay to the Cemetery) in the summer there’s only a few places where you can see the far off views. But it’s still very scenic. Once you ride it, I’d like to hear how it compares to some of the other places you’ve seen. I’ve watched you channel, You’ve been to a lot of places

Nice, yeah not a difficult trail at all. I’m way overbuilt for it. But it is a nice Scenic getaway

My wife and I did this trail in September of 2022 and they were just starting to log the area and the road through the Big Frog Wilderness was in great shape. Thanks for sharing this video because we plan to make this trip again this year.

Explains why it was rougher than the Georgia parts. It was still easy, just the Ga side was very easy

A friend is planning a trip through the 'loop' soon - this is a great resource! Anyone who hasn't tried to film a wheeling day (let alone a week!) has no idea how much effort goes into putting something like this together!!!

Yeah It’s a lot of work. You get a Jeep, think you’ll become an off roader. Instead you become a Mechanic, Navigator, Photographer, Astronomer, Videographer, and Narrator! 😂 Thanks for watching, I try to keep my ride videos under 15 minutes, but this one needed to be longer and more detailed. The idea was for it to be a reference point for future trips, glad you found value in it also.

This is in my "backyard." The last overlook in your video is my closest and favorite view.. Sometimes, I wake up and fill my Yeti with coffee and druve up to take in the new day as the sun rises. This video doesn't show the grandeur of what you behold being there. Leave it better than you.found it! Also this is not the Smoky Mtns.
@1870offroad
@1870offroad 7 ай бұрын
Yeah the video never captures it all. Not too far from me but it’s still a haul up from middle Georgia. Ya know, I never knew the Smokey’s were only a small part of the Appalachians until after I made this video, I always thought the Blue ridge, Smokey’s, Appalachians were just different names for the same Mountians. And if I hadn’t made this video I still wouldn’t have learned. Thanks for watching and for the comments. Some of my favorite videos are the ones that I learn from too

Great video. We're thinking about doing the loop on dual sport bikes in February or March 2024. Any advice? Plenty of water sources?
@1870offroad
@1870offroad 6 ай бұрын
Dual sports, You should have no trouble doing it in a day (sun up to sundown), several kept blowing by me. Lots of creeks, some of the trails close during January and February (check the us forest service website). Be ready to be off grid for however long you stay. I wish I had one more day to explore more trails: I would have Gaia or Onx, download the maps for off line, no cell service except for a few mountain tops. The 3 main exits (Hwy 64 in tenn, east old 2 to blue ridge, west old Hwy 2 to Cisco)

Will the trail or parts be open for new years week? How is the best way to find info and maps?
@1870offroad
@1870offroad 7 ай бұрын
I think parts of it closes just after new years. Look up us forestry service website for the Chattahoochee-Oconee page. They post the road closures there. They’ve also been under a burn ban for about a month now
