Hello Rich, I feel your pain, same thing happened on my STI. Ended up using a helicoil kit on the callipers, that was over 14 years ago and have had no issues. Have just put on those pads and discs, great product but you do get lots of brake dust, make sure you coat the wheels to make them easier to clean. Keep the videos coming.

Hi mate I’m Ryan’s brother in law I drilled out the 1 bolt for you shame other bolt pulled through 😩 but hopefully that kit I suggested that you are getting does the job as the insert comes in from other side so should hopefully pull up tight 🤞but loving the vids I’ve just watched back through a few 👌

First let me give you a big “social” thank you 👏 👏 👏 Tbf the first bolt tightened up nicely and thought we were going to be okay but the second bolt ripped through the thread early on so I was gutted. Although more gutted when I realised second hand prices of recon calipers! 😂 It seems that helicoils should work so Ryan’s picked up the caliper and the helicoil kit (that you suggested!) so fingers crossed. Thanks again to yourself (and Ryan of course 👏)

Well, that's unfortunate but the juice is worth the squeeze. My father in law once told me that half of your performance is your brakes. It doesn't matter how fast you go if you can't slow and stop properly... And the GD STi does that with the Brembos and good pads and discs. I've replaced discs on mine several times over the years and now feel blessed not having this happen! I'm waiting for the next update on that WRB beauty!

I agree with your father-in-law. Far too many ppl forget the importance of brakes. You gonna be able to slow quickly and progressively to be quick down any road/track.

The bleed nipples will be the next thing to snap off, or strip their threads. What about sending them to Godspeed for a refurb? I think he uses stainless helicoils.

I’ve already called a favour in from a friend and the calipers being done now.

I watched loads of you tube videos before touching mine so when it can to it I was waiting to happened to you happen to me but all four of mine were spot on no problem but like you said I put copper slip on bolts when I put them back in ,can I ask I may be wrong is that rust on the new suspension you fitted?. I forgot a guy told be to use proper brake grease not copper slip where the pads slid on.

I’ve always used copper grease and never had an issue so I tend to stick with what works for me. Yes, the KYB inverted struts are showing a little surface corrosion.
