Bigger Tires with Bead Lock Wheels AND LESS WEIGHT! Vision F-Manx and 38" Patagonia

This install video features an amazing upgrade to the AutoEdits Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that at first glance doesn't even make sense... going with larger 38" Milestar Patagonia MT tires and mounting them to a set of Vision F-Manx 398 Beadlock wheels for a net savings of 6 pounds for each wheel and tire combo!
I know it sounds crazy but it's true... with the right carefully chosen components... I went bigger and stronger and saved 35 pounds of un-sprung weight on the Jeep!
Plus... just look at that thing! I'm loving the bright natural machined finish aluminum wheels.
Here's a link to the Vision wheel webpage and all of the off road wheels they offer... There will be more information on the brand new F-Manx 398 soon and I'll add that link here as well... www.visionwheel.com/wheel/721...
The Milestar Patagonia MT tires are an extreme performance off road tire priced WAY lower than you might think. The 38 x 13.5 R17 that I installed in this video are available for $229 on Amazon right now... I don't think you can find a comparable 37" tire in that price range. www.amazon.com/shop/autoedits...
Here's the information straight from the Milestar website: www.milestartires.com/light-t...
I also go very in depth on the How To aspect of mounting up your own tires on bead-lock wheels and give a few tips on how to measure for proper speedometer calibration.
Check back for more videos soon on other upgrades like the Bestop Core Doors and the full Road Trip Adventure video to Colorado to hang out with my friends from Powerstop Brakes at the Gridlife Alpine Horizon event at Pikes Peak International Raceway. We go and run trails in Penrose Colorado and I even get Pro-Drifter Justin Pawlak to ride with me and spot through some knarly terrain!
So hit the subscribe and notification bell thingy now and follow me over on the Instagram at:

Howdy! Here's an important update for new viewers of this video... I did not like the internal beads for wheel balancing and ended up taking them out and going with traditional static wheel weights. My biggest complaint was that they were inconsistent, fine for several miles and you'd hit a bump and they would be out of whack. I was very happy with the wheel and tire combo!!! Awesome performance overall!!!

Great review as always!! I just added these tires last week in the same 38x13.5 r17. Totally happy with them so far. I've only had them on the highway so far, but they're quieter and lighter than my previous 35x12.5 r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Can't wait to see how well they work off road! Seems like they are getting more popular everyday. The prices have been rising. Saw them a month ago and they were $199 at Walmart.com I eventually got a set at $249 a piece, still a great price for this type of tire. I also got some new wheels that have -12 offset and I have a little rubbing on the back of the driver side tire and the frame when fully turned left. Not enough rubbing to make me want to put the wheel spacers back on but a -18 offset should be perfect. Couldn't afford the beadlocks this time but hopefully soon. And you were right about the tire size, I used 36.5" on my traildash to program the tire size and speedo to be within 1mph at 75mph. Thanks again for all the info. Made my decision to buy these tires even more satisfying knowing you're running them!

Fantastic video, the wheels look great. I've been running Patagonia MTs for about 7k miles now and love them. They made it through mud and to a week long CO trip trail riding through the mountains. I also run 17" TRs (look just like the ones on your truck). I used the beads and was a little skeptic at first but they work great. There is a chart I used from EZ Bead that helps guide you on how many ounces to use. Going too low is worse than going a little more than recommended in my opinion. Looking forward to toy next video!

If both tire and wheel are high uality, you should've lined up the yellow/red dot on the side wall with the valve stem in the wheel. Balancing matrial probably wouldn't have been needed. Been doing that for five yers with the company I'm at.

I know many people like that the Patagonia MT is lighter but it comes at a price. They have thinner sidewalls. The weight savings didn't come from a special treadwear compound. Overall I do like the tire but I do believe that a heavier tire is a testament to how well it's made.

@@KammTheTrainer they are great. Never had any issues from the balance. Even after tearing up the lugs they went down the highway fine. Only down side is you can hear the BBs hit the rim as you come to a stop.

My experience with the balancing beads - they worked just fine however they played havoc with the valves when airing back up.....and that was with the special valves. Pretty much always had to remove at least one valve completely and reinsert it to clear it from sticking. I returned to regular weights after a few months.

I'm curious if this is how I'll go as well but thought to try... thanks for the input!

The kmc wheels have two valves per wheel so you always have an alternate valve that isn't pointed into the pool of beads. You can also drill and add a second valve to any wheel.
@peterfalkner390
@peterfalkner390 4 жыл бұрын
That should be a great help. When I experienced blockage the valve position appeared to be random positions. Maybe bad luck? 1 in 4 valves would stick, again random.
