I will say this honestly got me back into makeup. I realized that makeup content is very different coming from MUAs than enthusiast. MUAs genuinely have a passion for makeup paying for licensing, dedication to learning, seeking industry jobs in makeup etc... is a reflection of their love. It feels more genuine and it just made me want to get back into make-up. I revamped my routine, I'm interested in products again. Like it's refreshing to see people having a genuine reaction to good products and not being like over the top about every new thing. Reminding people that these older products are good and or similar to the new stuff coming and you guys remind people to keep using them. Idk im rambling but ❤ this podcast and you guys

I think one of the big downfalls of ABH was the amount of pallets they made with creators. It was one after the other, without giving the pallet propper chance to have it's time. The new big pan pallets look like Sigma pallets, but without the cohesive color-story.

I love the single shadows that fit into pallettes of various sizes. If you can come up with a really good formula with a variety of finishes and enough shades for everyone from mild to wild, and then have empty pallettes that can accomodate small, med, large, etc collections, that would be fantastic. I know it's been done before, but this is my favorite format for versatility, and then you have the ability to swap around individual colors to carry with you for daily carry or travel, while your big collection is safely at home waiting. If you could do this with blushes, highlighters, contours, finishing powders, etc. I would be all over it.

Don't forget behind these HUGE brands, are the share holders. I remember reading that the reason why AH kept pumping out stuff so fast because the share holders demanded them too. I do believe a lot of the mistakes that were made are do to people (with money) behind the scenes demanding things without understanding the market.

I feel like a lot of this can go back to what brands are chasing trends and what brands are creating stunning high quality STAPLES. To me, rare beauty is an example of a brand creating exactly that. Her products go viral sure but at the end of the day she’s creating stuff without gimmicks, high quality performing formulas.

As someone who is in retail cosmetics, even when it comes to our metrics, I feel like we are so consumed by 2020 and being disposable that these people just tell the “Novina’s” of the world that whatever they are doing is great. Couldn't agree more with you guys, especially with PML. After purchasing two Mothership palettes (4 and 7), and being so disappointed, I swore never again. I do like her blush (single compact) and bronzer, but while they're nice, they're not extraordinary. I did buy the ABH Cosmos palette and like it, but agree they haven't hit their peak since Modern Renaissance. As for Fenty, couldn't agree more with the matte foundation: it dried so fast on my face that I'd joke that blending it in was a cardio exercise because you had to work FAST! It makes me sad to see where UD is now versus when they started. I still remember their catchphrase "Does pink make you puke?" when they were still positioning themselves as punk and subversive. I never really got into Too Faced, although I used to think their packaging was cute, but it was also a bit hokey. As for Tarte, believe it or not, I actually really rely on a few of their products: their ShapeTape CC Cloud Cream is beautiful on me. I like Tarte's Contour Wand more than Charlotte Tilbury, and I love their Maracuja Juicy Lip and Lip Plump. I have purchased those three products repeatedly, but I totally see and acknowledge the whole brand trips drama.

💯I was a UD fan back in the day, still like their eyeliners But never really got into Too Faced. I did like their ethereal powder for a minute, but have never owned any palettes etc. Their stuff is SO hokey and scented, we don’t need perfumed eyeshadow lol

I LOVE episodes/discussions about products and brands for the stated fact that we live in a very capitalist society in the US. I love make up and the aspect of creativity and self-expression it offers me BUT, I want to be an informed consumer and invest in my art with eyes open consciousness about brands and quality. You both do a very wonderful job of sharing your thoughts and having a real and authentic conversation about many aspects of the beauty culture, and I greatly appreciate it and feel validated by you both sharing your strong opinions.

24:45 omg Johnny literally in tears just thinking of him and Kevin creating an eyeshadow palette together sent me!🥹🥹🥹 The passion and artistry in these two men truly sets them apart from anyone on any and every platform. I’ve never seen anyone hungrier than Johnny and I mean that as a compliment. He works so hard and it’s truly shocking how much he did when he was just by himself! And then to sacrifice his ego to bring Kevin on the show and now on his other channel … class. Just pure class.

Just left a 5 star review on Apple Podcasts for you and I just want to thank you for helping this NY (Finger Lakes region) lady with mature skin find products and techniques that work for my combo skin! I love watching your new episodes every Sunday, save a lot of them into makeup/skincare playlists to reference later if needed and sometimes even rewatch just to laugh along with your incredible interactions. You guys are the best, looking forward to Season 2!

I had a face palette with the usual bronzer, blush, and highlight. Chalk dust. Orange ass bronzer. Pink ass blush and not their normal formula, which I actually like, especially Paarty. Highlighter was crumbs and went away in 5 minutes. Worst makeup purchase ever. And the blushes are nice, but there are 50 better ones.

Brilliant episode, can't wait for part two. The complacency of these brands is insulting frankly. Learning about profit margins from Jeffrey Star has made me want more bang for my buck. You can really tell who's putting in the time and effort and I think we as consumers are becoming more knowledgeable thanks to people like you and Kevin so they need to start upping their game. I could totally see you both as consultants to top brands ❤
