Sim racing technique and setup advise from Driver61's head coach, Scott Mansell. In this Driver's Analysis series, Scott takes a look at your laps to enable everyone to learn and become faster, more consistent and feel in total control on track.
Today's video rides onboard with sim racing driver Jamie Hunt in a Audi R8 LMS GT3 around the Brand Hatch GP circuit. Scott talks about sim racing technique, and later, about sim racing setup. Jamie is using Assetto Corsa software.

Scott, thank you so much for this. I've enjoyed your channel for a few years now. All your advice is fair, and more importantly, makes sense. I have 25 notes from this video for room for improvement. I will be posting my progress to your advice in a few days here, if you're interested: kzfaq.info/love/MTgiiAoO7mmDzD66kO6VMA?view_as=subscriber It's clear I'm not the best sim racer, but I do love my hobby. This advice is going to be invaluable for me to improve - thank you so much!! Keep up the good work!

When the throttle and brake bar change color(to yellow) that means TC and/or ABS kicked in. I guess it's good info for you since you were wondering what was that "orange" throttle bar.

Love your videos, loads of videos of on-board cameras on tracks on KZfaq, but none with your technical commentary. This is why we are all here watching your videos. However, but this has to be my favorite. Most of us won’t be able to get on these tracks or drive these cars, so sims are the way we get to do this. So combining you technical commentary with our reality makes this a million times better. I can use this to get better, while I’m not ever going to be a eSport driver, it helps me increase my enjoyment. While I’m still going to watch and rewatch your content, these sim videos will always be my favorite. Now I need to figure how to help support your efforts.

I just saw that you can just upload a personal video in your website for free. Wow! I have to say that I am improving my consistence with the tail brake technique, watching the track further on the exits but I am not really lowering my lap times. If you call a 1.27.0 pushing ......well You haven't seen us pushing cars at Brands Hatch. I call pushing someone under the 24.5 mark But yes he's, pushing the car to the limits of his ability . Sir , Can you do this kind of content with a split screen with both footage of real car and SIM. I think your ability to differentiate driving styles and technique is top notch :) .

Hi new sub, I can not stress that anuff you're hardware needs to be set up correctly, from force feedback, fov, steering degrees, and most of all the best thing I love with a decent sim, acc, ac, iracing, rf2, r3e, ams, is car setup, it really does take a lot of time to set up the car to how you like it, Glad I found your channel, don't know how I haven't already 👍💯🏁 Brilliant info

Fantastic video Scott :) FYI with this particular sim the race logic system is fully functional so drivers should be able to switch it to delta mode. Also worth noting is devs have fully integrated the Motec data logging system so might be worth letting people know they can do a data trace and send you their lap telemetry for further analysis :) look forward to more videos from you!

hi Scott, first of all, i want to thank you for make these videos (including the real racing ones) they´ve helped me a lot and that´s why i love them, but i have a question, i started to do what you said in the video , about pressing the brake during the corner to avoid or minimize understeer (because i´ve always had that problem, due i acelerate when recently start to turn), but in some corners (specially the hard braking ones) i lose the rear, and i still having a bit of understeer in others, so, is it a set up problem? or... what can i do? thanks in advance PS: sorry if i made a mistake while writing, i´m not good enough at english yet PS2: i´ve been driving audi LMS at spa

How did he have oversteer at the corner before the last one?? What i usually experience is understeering. The steering wheel feels very light and i have to lift a bit, and then gently apply pedal linearly to get back front traction.
@heikogehrig
@heikogehrig 4 жыл бұрын
What about the amount of steering input? What is the maximum? Very generally speaking of course - there’s so many variables. Try to keep it below 90 degrees, 120 degrees in slow corners? I see some people put huge amounts of steering in a turn, but in theory they will just push the tires far over the amount of grip that’s available and create huge understeer? Effectively the tires would just be plowing or sliding over the pavement rather than steering the car with effect grip? Do I understand this correctly? I tried this in project cars 2 and asseto corsa competitizone (basically just completely over rotating the wheel 200 degrees, really over dong it, but the car didn’t seem to understeer or not turn in less effectively as if I did normal steering inputs). I’m confused! I still put in normal inputs, but my test did not help my feeling/understanding.

Low speed front rebound.Worth to mention cuz this car I assume has high speed rebound too but what I think is he just needs to trail brake a bit more into the corner and to learn to take corners in the way when he is on full throttle on exit that is it,to not need to lift on exits. Also,may I ask is it possible for me to sent you video to analyze my driving?I would like to know my mistakes and I want to be better.iRacing is sim?

I thank you sooooo much for your videos. Im not a professional, probably consider a noob to Sim-Racing. I have raw talent. I have family members who have raced go-carts. My dream is to get good enough to do the ESports F1 series. Ive played with a wheel and pedals for about 2 months. I have gotten within .6 secs of the World Record at Austria. So, with some help I believe I have potential to be really good. Not being bias, but come on. Within .6 of the World Record with about 2 months of play time vs some ppl have years of Sim-Racing experience. But, you Sir have helped me a lot just by watching your videos. I could only imagine if you taught me inside a car. Wow, I could be really good. But, thanks for ALL your videos. I watch them all. Wether I need it or not. I want to learn it all. Like this video. I was still able to take some points away from this video. Even tho, I, personally didnt need this particular info. Was wondering if your the son of the Great Nigel Mansel?? Former F1 Champion!!!!

Just an idea, if you want to reach out more to sim racing as well and possibly have a community around it based off your channel, a discord server might not be too bad of an idea. Since most people here seem to be in for help and advise on improving themselves, it might be a nice place to gather around and exchange experiences, tips and each other’s improvements. And not to forget saying it: as always, amazing videos, keep the good work up! Your content is extremely valuable!

Driver61 oh, im sorry, I forgot not everyone knows that. Basically it’s a program where you can setup several rooms on a server for voice chat or text/picture/video chats with different subtopics etc. People can join that community then and communicate there together. Basically like a communication tool for gaming communities. Most of the people i know use it to chat while driving in assetto or playing games or just to hang out and text, etc.
