Bigme HiBreak Smartpone B&W and Colour Models Revealed

Bigme is going to be releasing their first smartphones with e-paper displays. One will be a black and white version, and the other will be a colour. Two different configurations are available, based on different processors, RAM and storage. You can watch it to learn all about it.
Bigme said that the HiBreak series will have a self-developed fast refresh algorithm and patented automatic image removal technology to give users a better user experience.

Hopefully this one will have a North American baseband for a change. It almost doesn't matter how good the thing is if you can't get it on a network because the radio isn't compatible.

They wrote me and said it supported usa bands. Someone on reddit /eink emailed them and they said what bands were supported and iirc it was the common tmobile ones and maybe another. I'd have to find the post.

The website now lists the bands and what countries. I get mine this month. Check there bro

That’s great. I really want to see e-ink smartphones become a big thing. Hopefully at some point we’ll see a company like Sony join in as well. That’d be ideal.

The preorder just went up at their website. It's about 250 for the color version. I few years ago I got an Hisense A6L for about 400, it was black and white, and didn't even have North American network support, this is huge. And I just pre-ordered mine.

Totally getting the B&W. I have a new boox color tablet and I barely use color on it, to the point that its not worth losing the b&w's crisp white background.

I am interested in whether (1) Wireless Charging would be nice to have (2) if they have the volume control on the left (I use it for page turning and am left handed, and the 'custom key' often doesn't work for me) and (3) Dual Sim, just because I use Dual sim so I don't have to carry 2 phones.

Oh, nice! I hope this has also microSD slot and jack to be usable (every $49 phone has those, so $500+ phones should too). If it has those basic features + e-ink screen it's just perfect fit for me. Also display size seems almost perfect, finally someone is creating phone you do not need to carry in a backpack!

Hope they won't make the same mistake Hisense did by only caring about a narrow 5G range that didn't work in the US and other big markets. I have an A7 CC (Kaleido 2). It's a great small tablet but useless as a phone in the US. Michael's spec rundown didn't mention it. If they make the same mistake, it's dead on arrival in those markets.

That could be amazing for backpacking. Much less battery concerns with it, especially during the day when the screen brightness usually had to be cranked to the max to be visible. Well that assumes it has gps. Hard to imagine having a smartphone without gps. Release date update: it has gps

This is honestly exactly what we need at this point in time in our industry. Hisense has all but abandoned their units. Onyx has made two attempts at releasing phones to no avail. And all the other choices are completely weak; Mudita, light phone, Kyocera, etc. Their timing could not be better, and releasing two variants, both a color and a black and white was quite possibly the best thing they could have done

@@goodereader agree, totally looking forward to the phone! although was a little let down that I'll need to wait half a year more, not sure why is an android 11 version was warranted. If they use the learnings to improve on the android 14 version that would be excellent. Also, looking forward to your coverage on this phone

Actually, a9 was pretty cheap when it came out, like 339 The only reason they're dang near $500 nowadays is because the fact that they are so hard to get from the distributors Supply and demand at its finest
