NOTE: The Ender 5 Plus requires a new display (at this time) to upgrade to this board. Please see my other Ender 5 Plus videos using Bigtreetech boards. ALSO NOTE: There are many reports of people having problems using this board with the stock BLTouch on the Ender 5 Plus. It does not happen to everyone. It did not happen when I tested it myself. The only known POTENTIAL fixes are switching to a CRTouch, switching to Klipper, or there has been a case of just needing to update the touchscreen firmware to the latest. With that being said, I CANNOT and DO NOT recommend this board on the Ender 5 Plus at this time. There are too many people having these issues and, while I've improved it in my latest 2.1.1 firmware, I have not been able to provide a fix for this issue. So far it appears to be an electrical issue that software has not been able to work around.

Thank you for providing the compiled firmware. I had trouble with my ender 5 pro and the skr mini e3, I almost gave up on it and bought a creality board. I thought my prints were being underextruded but my problem was the Z screw on my old ender 5 pro is different from the newer ones. My lead screw had 4 starts and the provided firmware was built for a printer with the updated 2 start lead screw. Change your steps/mm for the Z axis from 800 to 400 and you'll be printing normally or change the lead screw to the new design.

@PabzRoz
@PabzRoz Жыл бұрын
@@twiztid664 I had the 4.2.2 board originally as well. Do it. Totally worth it. Stil been running strong zero issues. But it's not a simple plug and play. The only things that sucked is that for my CR touch I had to swap two of the wires in the JST connector for it to work on the board. Wasn't hard at all super easy but figuring out why it wasn't working was a pain at first but there's a really good guide online that explains all the pinouts on the board for you. Just had to look up which color wires were what on my cr touch. Same thing would go for ther BL touch as well. And ontop of that the firmware that came out for the SKR mini v3 at the time just wasn't working right. So I had to compile my own firmware which again wasn't hard but annoying as hell. After those 2 things though it's been flawless. Beautiful prints and my printer is insanely quiet now. Worth every penny. Again these issues were when it first came out so I'm sure the current firmware is all fixed and you won't need to compile your own anymore. Overall I'd recommend it over the 4.2.2 board for sure. And the mini v3 price is good.

I just did this in a Sovol SV05 which started with a Creality 4.2.2 board, I wanted TMC2209 stepper drivers so installed the BTT SKR Mini E3 V3.0. All of my issues were firmware based I burned up a CR Touch because I thought it was electrical, it turned out to be firmware. I replaced the CR Touch with a BL Touch. Kris, I had a follow up comment. First, my Ender 5 Plus is stock as it ships with just the BL Touch auto bed leveling feature factory installed. I haven't modified it in any way other than replacing the stock main board with the Creality silent version board. And that leads to my experience with those silent boards. I installed both that later failed. They both worked flawlessly initially. The first worked for a couple months, and it successfully completed dozens of prints, and it failed appearing to be a problem with homing and seemed to be a problem with the BL Touch, but ended up actually being the silent board that had failed. The second one only worked for a couple weeks, and just failed today with the z-drive crapping out. The z steppers check out okay, so the growling and slow attempts at motion are surely caused by the driver failing. I attempted to adjust the stepper operating voltage, but that didn't solve the problem, thus I ordered the BTT SKR Mini E3 V3.0 and am here asking for your help.
@kerseyfabs
@kerseyfabs 2 жыл бұрын
I replied to the emails you sent. I'll do my best to answer your questions. The BTT SKR Mini E3 V3.0 is a drop-in replacement and firmware installation should be easy. The only thing that is extra is that I don't support the stock display with my firmware. There are several technical reasons for this but, bottom line, it's not supported. So you will have to replace the display with one like the BTT TFT35. Let me know if you have any other questions.

BTW - that new link you gave to the pre made JST connectors are for 1.25mm JST connectors (refers to the inter-pin distance) - the plugs that are required are 2.54mm (TBF they do look identical in the picture, but having tried to make up the 2.54mm ones I hate to think how difficult making the 1.25mm ones are). They are available on amazon if you look (although I had to buy 50) - I won't include the link because I'm in the UK.

My printer got unsusable because it keeps trying to print outside the board, how is this possible? I thought this would be plug and play. All the wires are in the right place, first it homes and then it makes the test line on the other side of the bed, it makes no sense, tried to compile marlin but it also does not help. @kerseyfabs

Thank you! Yeah, I don't see any need to go from V2.0 to V3.0. There are some software ways to check out that filament runout but the easiest way is to stick a small piece of filament in the sensor, start a print with no filament loaded in the nozzle and see what happens when you remove that small piece of filament.

Upgraded my new Ender 5 Plus with Bigtreetech Mini E3 V3.0: and TFT35 V3.0 this week and have spent hours disassembling and reassembling rerouting BLtouch cables and recompiling firmware and FINALLY have it doing auto bedlevel much more consistently. It seems that the V3 board has some issues with ADAPTIVE STEP SMOOTHING in configuration.h being enabled on this board The symptoms were not completing a full bed level and erroring out both in Marlin Mode and TFT Touch mode On Marlin forum it has been noted for a while that this seems to be an issue I run a V2 board and TFT without any issues on ender 3 but ender 5 had me beat I post this here in the hope it may save someone else the frustration that i have had Luckily i am a software and hardware nut and could imagine a new upgrader being really frustrated It would be a good ide to release this mod as a binary for others who have the same issues Be aware i am not guaranteeing this will fix all problems but it fixed mine

I like the feature but it's not like I use it much. Unless I hit something or move it, it usually doesn't need it. Filament detector still not working. tried FD plugged into tft50 but keep getting errors, found it set to off in screen firmware. Tried to enable in marlin and get a build error. will keep trying but done with BTT.

BTT is definitely a DIY solution. The troubles you're describing don't seem to be a problem with the BTT products. I have a 2.1.1 build available. Check my KZfaq community page or Facebook page.

Another great video! Only thing I wish with your firmware is that you would share the actual files (.h, adv.h, pins, etc) to if we need to adjust a couple things we could (runout sensor on Ender 5, etc). Still, I appreciate all your effort you put in to helping all of us! I have the mini v2 on my Ender 5 now so unless I find a great deal I doubt I would upgrade until something would happen to this one.

I disagree with the statement that tinned wires are a hazard. If tinning was a bad thing, every solder joint in you system would be at risk. However, I do agree in using Ferrule connectors as it bundles up all the strands into a cold weld and allows that to pass as one into the the connectors for power. You don't have to worry about straggler wires that can cause shorts and decrease the surface area in which electrons flow. Tinned wires are not a issue, and are used in high power systems as well as low voltage high amperage, mostly in corrosive environments.
@kerseyfabs
@kerseyfabs 2 жыл бұрын
The worry usually comes from crushing the tinned ends and them possibly arching over time. At least that's my understanding.

Having an extension SD card cable doesn't work which sucks. Just says SD init fail. I just don't like having to keep plugging and unplugging the micro SD card slot. Over time that sooner or later will not read the cards inserted Took mine above 70c and the fan doesn't turn on at all. Everything else works fine include hotend and bed thermistors.

You are right when you say that the balance between the components of a 3D printer is key and so a higher speed ARM M4 at 180MHz offers more performance than a standard mechanical build of a 3D printer can handle. It is so, that the aluminum structure used in the Ender 5 Plus is what is called "light" and there are 2 more variants, the stiffest one is "Heavy". Replacing the structure with stiffer aluminum profiles gets into the challenge to replicate the holes drilled into them. Here I see a possible product to be offered to the market by 3rd parties. The other component required to upgrade the performance is to use drivers using TMC5161 that can handle up to 60VDC. Watterott i.e. offers those. Finally, a separate power supply with 48 VDC to feed the drivers will add to it. BTT now has a board that supports this. 3D printing is a slow manufacturing process and if you go to use less than 0.4 mm you can even improve the resolution of your prints thanks to the higher speed it does happen as fast as before.

@@kerseyfabs stop the clock. Are you saying that the only way to get M600 to work on the E5P is with a new screen? Obviously this doesn't include working off octopi / octoprint because it works with octoprint even on your marlin 1.7.3BL

I realize you can probably do that with an OctoPrint plugin but many of my viewers are not interested in adding an additional layer to their printer. Had to upgrade to "SKR Mini E3 V3.0" because v1.1.4 got some smoke. However I miss these old-school retro sounds original board does. Why people want "silent" drivers is beyond my understanding. And I see no much difference comparing to what 8 bit board can at default speeds. Output quality is similar. CPU speed doesn't really matter. With all the optimizations set of features is similar. Yes, I've received input shaping, linear advance and stallguard but I can live without these. I could go back to 8 bit easily without any regret.
