I find these video's much more satisfying, than watching video's of $10k carbon bikes. There is something appealing about old retro steel bikes

Really liked the restoration👍. Loved the quality vintage components and wish I could find the same. Those XT v-brakes are not easy to come by these days. Just a thought; after all the super restorations that you have put up for us to enjoy don’t you think it’s time to invest in an ultrasonic cleaner? I got a 10litre commercial one last year for about $120 and have never looked back. Filled with a commercial degreaser, parts come out spectacularly clean with no retained small grit.

Very nice, what grease did you use for the headset? Too bad the booties were missing on the brakes, they help to keep some of the dirt out of the cable housing. Is a chainstay protector used when the bike is ridden? Wondering how tough that paint is. Thanks for another great video 👊

Fun paint job! I'm in the middle of sanding and repainting a 1996 Brodie Quantum. Fun bike to ride but the frame had seen better days. I didn't realize how much effort it was to remove the paint. I don't have access to a garage or workshop so I've just been sanding with elbow grease in my backyard and when I ran out of that I picked up an orbital sander. I did try a non-toxic paint and varnish remover but that did nothing. I also tried scraping with a knife but I wasn't getting very far (perhaps I needed a bigger and sharper knife?). I'm almost done with sanding and moving on to spray painting soon. It's hard sourcing spray.bike here in Toronto. I found a shop in Montreal carrying some cans but the choices were limited. I'm looking forward to finishing up this project and riding my retro MTB in a couple of weeks' time. Hope you feel better soon!

It’s a 21” and I’m 6’4” which is why I bought a ‘22 Trek Boone that I love! Just doin this for fun. I removed the shocks but the forks are designed for disc brakes. Interesting and relaxing video, as always. I could be a nerd here but I have a suggestion: why don't print a sticker with a QR-CODE pointing to the restoration video and use that sticker during frame painting? Anyone who, in the future, will buy the bike could enjoy the process of his/her bike restoration.

Does that 9-speed rear mech work properly with a 7 speed chain, shifters and cassette? Are you running a 9 speed chain to compensate for the thinner outer plates? Those old coil spring Bombers are the cockroaches of all forks. Marzocchi's coil spring forks will last and last. An oil flush and change and a new set of seals will bring new life to them. They are highly adjustable simply by playing with oil weight and levels. You can still find seal kits for 'em. I've kept mine going for decades and I'm always looking for another. Just avoid the older Bomber Air forks such as the ultra lightweight versions of Bomber Marathon forks with negative springs.
