I get sad when I see such well made, high quality, well cinematographed content get so little views. The world is not fair. I highly respect the hustle.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not disappointed by the "little views"...I'm just happy that I have the opportunity to make these fun videos :)

I grew up in Urumqi. I biked a lot when I was young 30 years ago. Everything changed since I left 1987.

Hey Josh when I arrived in China in 1993 there were hardly any cars on the road: just a few beaten-up old taxis and trucks! I experienced the tidal waves of cyclists and it was so safe. Take care!

your vlog skills are good, the equal to casey, jon olssen, etc etc .. love the confidence you have in your camera placements :-) .. no bike lanes yet there? .. and if you get some time, maybe try some color grading, will add a bit of cinema quality ... thanks for the post

Thanks for the comment! I do enjoy being creative with the vlogging. Just this past week I started training myself on color grading. I'm not sure if I'll do that for all my vlogs (that would take a long time) but I agree that it adds a cinematic feel to it.

Very natural and conversational. You are getting real good. The action cuts are superb and the music bed just perfect. Is that open source music? Do tell.

Once again, great video, Josh! Three comments: 1) Watching your video makes me homesick for a place I love so much! 2) How in the world did you leave your camera in those strategic locations as you were riding by...and not have it stolen?! Did you have an assistant? 3) One way to help lower the likelihood of having your bike stolen - ride a clunker! :-)
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 6 жыл бұрын
Haha! Thank you, sir. To answer your questions in order: 1) So...when are you going to come back for a visit? 😉 2) I'm a pro at hiding my camera, leaving it recording, riding away and then riding toward the camera. It's an exhausting process, especially since I don't use an assistant cameraman. Ha! 3) I've considered that, but I'm a big guy who needs an unusually big bike (for China). Hard to find that in "clunker" format. 😂😂

ADVChina does a good job covering terrain using motorcycles and GoPros. Very efficient. Perhaps a moped would be useful for local commutes.
@FarWestChina
@FarWestChina 6 жыл бұрын
Mopeds are technically illegal here in Urumqi, so unfortunately I can't do that. As for ADVChina, I could very easily attach a GoPro to my head and record my commute but honestly, it would be just as boring as most of the ADVChina videos are. I'd rather be a bit more creative.

It's really cool and I can imagine how time consuming it would be to setup the camera and then bike by. Also, having the confidence that wouldn't be stolen as you do your shot because ADVChina has run into the before where they almost lost their camera and I imagine that might have happened to you by now but I could be wrong.

Travel Xinjiang: Far West China I had not suggested a false dichotomy of using a helmet cam versus not using one. Further, drawing an inference that more options would be uncreative is highly illogical.

I know an MK who grew up there since they were a baby. They and their family moved from there when the MK was in their early teens. They speak of highly of their time in Ürümqi and Xinjiang. 🙂

You don’t want the bike rental companies... trust me... I really noticed the lack of them here and it feels good. No bike trash anywhere :)

So true. I see a lot of trash bikes all around Beijing, Chengdu and other bigger cities. It's coming, though...it can't be avoided.
