When I heard "THIS" for the first time in the 80s I was like "WTF?? is this??? This is BRILLIANT!!!" 40 years later its still ahead of its time.

Adrian Belew is the man. Every time he adds his craziness to bands its even more worth to watch and listen.

I was there, at this very concert, an innocent 18 year old drummer of four years. This show blew the top right off my head and is a pivotal point in my music journey. Thank you for this.

I had heard the name before but never researched, and this is one of the best rock/jazz/progressive fusions i've ever heard! I wish i wouldn't have been a baby in the 80s, the sounds and rhythms these guys are making are stellar!

"The Sheltering Sky" - wow. This is lineup of Crimson that I would call the perfect band, all playing their part to create a whole sound that is superb.

Adrian Belew seems like such a joyful guy. I bet a lot of people who had no idea what they were getting into were very glad he was there, smiling and dancing.

Saying someone is “the best” at something is entirely a subjective thing, but you can easily make the argument that each of these guys is, if not “the best” at their respective instruments, are certainly “among the best.” What an incredible collection of virtuoso musical talent.

I saw this band at Hammersmith Palais in 1982/83. It was, quite simply, the best gig I've ever been to in my life and I felt that I was witnessing a great human artistic achievement.They were an astonishing band.

I went to a King Crimson concert at Perkins Palace in Pasadena, California during the Discipline Tour. I'd never heard any music by King Crimson, but I had seen the Discipline album jacket in the stores. Bill Bruford's name on a sticker on the cellophane wrapping made me buy a concert ticket. I didn't have any friends that were interested, so I went alone. I was majoring in classical guitar performance in college, already a veteran of local rock bands, intrigued by innovative, artistic music. King Crimson was astonishing, the perfect way to get acquainted. Most people want to know the songs before they go to a concert, but not me. The best way to experience music the first time is live. My seat was fairly close to the stage, and I was aghast that Bruford was playing a little bell instead of a hi-hat, and playing busy patterns on little tomtoms. I'd never experienced the Chapman stick before, and Adrian Belew's rhythms, noises and singing were a revelation. The sound and look of this band was beyond unique. I became a fan instantly. God Bless the Krim!

I was 26 the year of this concert. Now 66, But I still listen to them with pleasure.

I have LOVED this music, these songs, since I was a teenager. This is my first chance to see it performed. I am so happy to see this! Thank you so very much for this opportunity.

When you left Yes after recording Close To The Edge, to join King Crimson, I thought you were mad. After hearing Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, I quickly changed my mind. Yes and Close To The Edge will always be in my top three albums and bands of all time, but no matter where you play, I’ll always listen. Thanks Bill, for everything.

Hi Bill I've been a fan of yours from 1973, I was eleven then when listened Close to the Edge for the first time in my country, Argentina. I was lucky to see you in Buenos Aires with KC in 1994 when the B'Boom gig. Let me say I`ve always been an admirer of your drumming and remember the early 90's when I got One of a Kind and Gradually going Tornado, 2 superb jazz rock albums with marvellous musicians such as Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Berlin and Dave Stewart and yourself. I think it's a real pity you finally retired from drumming, undoubtedly you are one of the best frummers of rock history and would still have so much to give to the world of music! Greetings from Mar del Plata, Argentina!

Incredible that this was in 1982 - the sounds and tones are way ahead of their time. You wouldn't hear this kind of bass and drum sound become more popular until the 90's.

Man, I was about 24 when this came out - great memories. Belew and Levin were a perfect add for this band in the early 80s. About 5 minutes into Waiting Man, I thought, "this is the most amazing cacophony of perfection and madness" and it was. Thanks to my favorite drummer ever for sharing!

Aside from the fact that this line up from King Crimson was stellar I love the juxtapose of the cool and precise appearance of Robert against the more emotional and swinging stance of Adrian.

Having seen the NYC Show on the pier a month or so earlier, I recall marveling at the brightness of all the new technology that these four brought to the music with their newfangled v drums, synth guitars and sticks. It all felt so innovative. It still does.

Even after 40 years, this concert is still in my heart! I still feel it!

I was introduced to The Mighty Crim , , with a red record called "Discipline" , my life was never the same after that - now played the Stick for 33 years ... and STILL learning !

Saw this tour when it came to the Greek Theater in L.A. The combined musicianship on display on that stage has never been equaled in my concert-going life. Incredible memories of that night.

No label can properly define these superior pieces of contemporary music. Nothing alike was being played in 81/83 neither came anywhere near to these geniuses' vision. This KC incarnation is simply NECESSARY to music: it fills a space that was created from nothing. The perfect 4 are creating a new world as if gods using a golem-like matter. It's the discipline of higher minds at work, based on Space rythms, sacred geometries, numerical series. Thanks Mr Bruford: it's earthly gods' master work

Just remembered when my friend brought a copy of “Beat” to my dorm room. When I heard the Chapman Stick kicking into overdrive in “Neal and Jack and Me”, I jumped out of my seat because I recognized that it was the same instrument from Peter Gabriel’s track “I Don’t Remember”. My friend said to me “this is what ‘80’s music’ should sound like”. Thanks for making this available.

I'm flabbergasted, honored & grateful in the most musical way all at once. Magical Concert to boot! Think I pour myself a drink & enjoy, before it all goes poof! like some holographic illusion..lol...

To me, this was the freshest and most innovative KC line-up by far. The time was very interesting, with new wave coming in and Adrian Belew reinventing progressive songwriting with his Bowie influence. This was incredibly advanced music and artistic vision, especially in 1982. They brought together the minimalism of new wave and the complexity of prog in an amazing way.

Love it, Bill. Not to mention that you and Adrian are also rockin' the Miami Vice look!

I saw them 3 times! No other rock band had such an ensemble of talented artists, top players, personalities. A magical mix that only KC is able to create. Indiscipline is a masterpiece

I'm in love with this particular performance of "Waiting Man"... I've seriously seen it hundreds of times. Those Simmons sounds are amazing for the tech of the day, and that end section with the overlapping vocal harmonies is just pure bliss to the ears. What a time to be alive. Thanks for giving us the rest of the set too!

I arrived in Germany in June of that year, stationed at a radar site with the US Air Force. Already was a long time King Crimson fan but discovered the album Beat there and Neil, Jack and Me meant a lot to me. That and Heartbeat were part of my courtship with my wife whom I met there and still am with today. :)

I absolutely love this footage! I saw a similar show in March of 82 which King Crimson played in support of Discipline. I attended the March 1, 1982 show at the Fine Arts Center in Amherst, MA where I was attending the University of Massachusetts at the time. This footage re-awakened memories I didn't even know were still rolling around in my brain. I also remember the opening act, The Suburban Lawns, both because I actually liked them at them time and I thought it was one of the most unusual opening act pairings I'd seen. Oh gee, that also reminds me I was wearing an Adam and the Ants pin on my jacket and I noticed it was missing after the opening act. While milling around in the corridor with friends before the main show, I noticed some other dude wearing the same pin I had lost. I asked him about it and he went on telling me about how he got it at their show. Well, little did he know that I know that they had never played live in the area as I demanded the pin back and he obliged this "Waiting Man" in the most cowering and defeated way!

First time i ever heard of King Crimson i saw this Lineup as opener for Genesis ( Hamburg open Air ) and after the Shows i thought King Crimson was the main Act for me. opend my mind musically. love this music. cheers from Germany.

Life blessed me with being introduced to King Crimson as early as 1976. Ever since their music has filled my life with joy and bliss.

I happened to be at their very first gig in London. It was 1981 and I was 18. From Italy. I just could not believe when I saw: King Crimson in concert at the Venue. King what???? They splitted after RED. So what... I could'nt believe it...💓💓💓

I attended a concert in this tour in Nijmegen in the Netherlands. A night we will never forget. What really impressed me was the combination of excitement/fun that you guys were having coupled with an ease/discipline of performance. I thought me a wise lesson that night of spending one's musical energy economically.

Just saw In The Court of the Crimson King last weekend, and I was hungry to see the band I saw in 84.

The way this show opened, and right into a mind blowing version of Waiting Man was amazing! Hard to believe this is only a little less than a decade after Bruford’s superhuman run with Yes:

The three colorful releases by this lineup make such a creative and imaginative statement that I revere them like relics. I wish I could have seen them live, but I'm so happy that I have these videos and "Absent Lovers" to hold onto.

Saw this tour. Best concert I have been too, to this day. The energy from them was incredible.

Fu&%n A. Seen these guys 3-4 times in the 80's. Back to back nights at the Hard Rock, Hollywood Blvd California... 3rd row front and center. Tripping balls. Goosebumps on Goosebumps... un real. All the guys were having a blast playing. I rarely see that with many bands. I see it as if it was yesterday.

I discovered King Crimson during this incarnation. After that, I learned to follow musicians rather than bands, and new musical worlds opened up to me.

Thank you so much for posting Bill .I've been a fan since early 70's.Aged just 15 I got to see your incredible skill Genesis doing the Trick of the tail tour . I was so impressed by you and Phil doing crazy perfect sync parts while simultaneously adding complementary fill ins.Shame I missed this though but thanks to you can watch it till eternity
