That '93 Phillies team sure did have character and heart: 877 runs scored, most in the NL, 1555 hits, most in the NL, 297 doubles, most in the NL, .274 BA, 2nd in the NL. An outfield of Dykstra, Eisenreich and Incaviglia/Thompson, and an infield of Daulton, Kruk, Duncan, Morandini and Hollins. A rotation of Schilling, Greene, Jackson, Mulholland and Rivera. And of course a bullpen of Larry Andersen, David West and the wild thing Mitch Williams. What a team.

I was born in 1993. This is one thing I tell people when I tell them what year I was born. I rememeber when I turned 20 years old. I did a little research to look up what events and things that happended the year I was born. This happened, Michael Jordan won his third championship before retiring to play basbeall after when his dad got shot, Bill Clinton was in his first term as President, and Jurrassic Park was the highest grossing film of 1993.
@billny33

I was born in 83. I think the Orioles-Phillies World Series of that year is one of the most uneventful WS of that time. But 83 was also the year the New York Islanders swept the Stanley Cup Finals over Gretzky's Oilers, completing a 4-peat. The very last 4-peat we have seen in North American team sports history. Hasn't happened since.

@Icecreamforcrowtoo
@Icecreamforcrowtoo 2 жыл бұрын
You mean from all those Al Leiter home videos they feature and the fact that more Jays (by a long shot) were interviewed than Phillies? No, I didn't really get that vibe but the Phillies were the underdog (and their NLCS victory was more improbable and dramatic than the Jays' ALCS win over Chicago). The Phillies that year were a unique team so maybe some of that is what you're picking up on? The Blue Jays were given plenty of respect and time in this video. What else should have been done? You can't cast the defending champs full of "professionals" as the wacky underdogs against the Phillies or anything. The dynamic there just is what it is. So I think the video is extremely fair to both teams. I'm from Texas so this isn't a biased Phillies fan responding to you, here. The World Series videos from this time period were very classy and well-done. You want to see an example of something that's blatantly butchered and biased and insulting to one of the franchises and their fan base participating in a World Series? Well, check out the 2005 World Series video MLB had commissioned. It was about the Chicago White Sox and their quest for a historic World Series crown after an 80 year long drought versus...some other team....doesn't really matter, either...but some other team that had to show up for the White Sox to play to accomplish this feat.

@@kadel300 "You're from Texas, and you're supporting a video very clearly aimed at the team who opposed the Blue Jays. Can't say I'm shocked there." What is that even supposed to mean, man? Where are you from? You know, for a guy bitching about bias you demonstrate quite a bit of that yourself here in terms of how you seem to generalize about people. "Oh, you're from Texas...of course." Seriously, man. Look in the mirror. You seem to project some of very qualities you have onto others. If I did that about you based on your geographical location, I'm sure you'd be offended. For the record, I was in fifth grade during this World Series and freaking hated the Phillies at the time for eliminating the Atlanta Braves. I was a huge Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter fan and was even pulling for them in 1992 until they got to that World Series and beat the Braves. I still have my little league Blue Jays cap (which looked just like the pro hats) from that year. And I was happy for Joe Carter when he hit the home run in this World Series. I'm actually pulling quite a bit for the 2021 Blue Jays to overtake the Yankees and the Red Sox. How does all this all fit into your "oh, you're from Texas...of course you hate the Blue Jays!" nonsense? I do view the 1993 Phillies more sympathetically than I did as an eleven year old. But this notion that "of course you support this video...you're from Texas" is really ignorant.

@ADEAL918

Edward Bliss not really. Their pitching staff wasn't great by any means. It was a solid team but very beatable for the Phils. They gave that series away. Not to take anything away from Joe Carter, but Williams lost that series more than anyone else won it. Carter's home run he certainly earned but Williams blowing that 4-run lead in Game 4 has to be factored into this equation big time. That was a meltdown.

@@ADEAL918 I see a lot of similarities between those '93 Phillies and the 2015 champions Kansas City Royals. A blue collar type team with a lot of fight, character and intangibles you don't necessarily forsee. That KC team found a way to win with no-name players, pitching and offense clicking at the right time. I could've seen that happening with those Phillies. Only problem is that the Jays were too good, sort of like the 2015 Royals playing against the 1984 Detroit Tigers

That's because the Braves and the Giants were in the same division. It was impossible for them both to make the playoffs. The Braves beat them out.

Are you serious? Talking about Danny Jackson? That's actually a natural-looking body considering that this was the beginning of the steroid era. There are steroid bodies and then there are natural bodies; that there ain't a steroid body (aesthetically) even if he was on the juice. I don't think his muscles are all that much bigger than mine, really. And I'm completely "natural". He looks like a normal athletic dude. Not Hulk Hogan or Lex Luger like some of the guys playing ball did.
